ENJOY AUGUST

My recommendation to all: Enjoy the weekend and the month of August 2009 like you have never enjoyed a weekend or an August in your lives. If the "Zero" and the rest of the Marxists in the House get what they want come fall 2009, you may never again in your entire lives be as free as you are as of this moment.

Thankfully, the petty DC tyrants are taking a one month break from their efforts to destroy the country and in doing so are providing the country a much needed break from their ugly, botox filled faces, their arrogant, blowhard voices, and their lying and conniving maneuverings.

I have always felt great when the federal government and the North Carolina General Assembly were not in session. However, I feel particularly good about this particular recess.

The Beer “Summit”
Race by the numbers

When Cambridge (Mass.) Police Sgt. Crowley tried to protect the home of a local resident from a possible break-in then had to arrest said resident (H.L. Gates) for interfering with the police in the performance of their duties, the Zero said the sergeant acted “stupidly.” After popular opinion went against him (something the Emperor is not used to), the Zero invited the pair to the White House for a beer (and to pimp them out for a photo op).

So, let’s see how the racial mix played out at the beer fest.

Assuming the Zero’s father was full Somali, that makes Obama 50% black and 50% white. Professor Henry Gates has admitted to having his DNA tested and discovered he is actually 57% white. We can assume Sgt. Crowley is 100% white.

Therefore, the Zero actually had two white guys and a 93% black guy over for beer.

Numbers don’t lie.

Who Am I To Argue With A German Egyptian?
I take that back... THE German Egyptian!

This is another of those instances where a ComBox posting takes on a life of it's own. The German Egyptian left one helluva comment;

A friend of mine, Methodist, told me the other day that they used to figure that anyone of their congregation that married a Catholic would join the Catholic Church, in the last 15 years that has totally reversed, they join the Methodists, chief reason, at least we can find a minister here, our priest only is available by appointment and the sacraments must not mean much to the him, confession for example, is only available by appointment or once a week for half an hour. At least you guys don't pretend that confession is even needed. And the message is the same, love and peace and justice. (Sigh) Sadly it almost makes sense. Polyester nuns and vapid empty priests, the road to hell will be paved with them. Not a lot to disagree with, is there? The last few years really have things turned on their heads, 'eh? Three things come to mind -

1. Forget about wolves in sheep's clothing... I'm worried about wolves in shepherd's clothing. It's a sad day, indeed when we see Catholic priests out-Jack Chick Jack Chick. How times have changed.

2. Not all that long ago in popular culture, the phrase "Catholic schoolgirl" translated into "don't waste you time, guys. She's savin' it for marriage". Now in popular culture, that phrase is synonymous with "slut". A friend of mine recently found out about two of his grandkids being enrolled in "Christian (read: Protestant) Academies". It was explained to him that this is a good thing. Like his daughter said; at least they'll be taught morality. They don't teach that anymore in Catholic schools". How times have changed.

3. I remember reading different accounts of certain Catholic prelates that had the same conclusion. Years ago, Protestant clergy would openly say things along the lines of "I may not agree with everything Cardinal Spellman or Archbishop Sheen says... but then they speak, everyone listens!" Now the phrase "Catholic priest" is a punch line. How times have changed.

The New Obama Stamp
Trouble making it stick

The US Postal Services issued a 42 c stamp with a picture of President Obama recently. Unfortunately the stamp keeps falling off letters and parcels all of the time. This enraged the President, who demanded a full investigation into the complaints.

After a month of testing and $1.73 million in Congressional spending, a special Presidential commission presented the following findings:

1.The stamp is in perfect order.
2.There is nothing wrong with the adhesive.
3.People were just spitting on the WRONG side of the stamp.

They should lick the back side of Obama like any good Democrat, Hollywood celebrity, or US media reporter.

Funny, Stalin's People Said The Same Thing
Maybe not that funny after all

Interesting bit of news from The Rumor Mill. Given the name of the source, I honestry didn't give this much credence at first... 'till I saw the video for myself; (Go to 5:40 for the specific quotes)
MSNBC's Chris Matthews Implies People Skeptical Of Governent Are Psychologically Insane

Matthews then brought up a psychological test which featured the question, “Is somebody chasing you right now?,” implying that anyone who doubts what the government tells them would answer in the affirmative, before asking, “Are we talking psychological problems here with people or what?”

Politico writer Ken Vogel then characterized people who question 9/11 and people who think Bilderberg are working towards a world government as a group that Republicans need to “watch out for” if they want to avoid being marginalized.

Matthews then said he was “in love” with Vogel because he had reminded him of “all the androgynous zones of insanity,” before cracking a lame joke about George W. Bush detonating the twin towers with a plunger.

Vogel then responded by including Ron Paul and supporters in the mix, noting that they embrace an “innate distrust of federal government,” again in the same context that to do so is a display of insanity.

My Favorite Catholic Chick From Virginia Hits Another One Outta The Park
Dymphna's blinding common sense

I know I'm a few days beyond the power curve with this one, but it's a powerful posting that I couldn't pass up ---
Mary Jo Kopechne died 40 years ago today

When Teddy Kennedy dies he'll probably be surrounded by family and friends. A priest, if not the cardinal will come to his bedside and give him Last Rites. Someone will croon French, (Rose Kennedy spoke fluent French and so did her son, JFK) or perhaps even Gaelic to him as he slips away. Later thousands will view the body in both Boston and DC and despite Church rules there will be eulogy after eulogy at the funeral. If the family asks for it, Danny Boy will be sung and the cardinal, his favorite priest and the Papal Nuncio will probably be co-celebrants. It will be one heck of a send off.
When I was a child Teddy ran a half hearted campaign for president. My father, a devoted Democrat said he'd vote for him but he'd never win. "Why", I asked. " A place called Chapaquidick," my father explained. A girl was killed accidentally in a car Ted was driving and although he'd always be king in Massachusetts, a dead girl was just too much for the rest of the country. My father said no more about the matter and I went back to playing with my Barbies.

When Teddy passes beyond the veil anyone who mentions Mary Jo's name will be sneered at as a meanie so I'll say it now and I'll say how sad it was that no-one was there to give the poor silly miss Last Rites or to hold her in their arms as she slipped away and no cardinal held her mother and father's hands at her funeral.

The ObaNazis Make Sanger Proud
This is what you wanted America... this is what you get

Here's just a taste of the article; Obama’s Science Czar Said a Born Baby ‘Will Ultimately Develop Into a Human Being’

(
CNSNews.com) - President Obama’s top science adviser said in a book he co-authored in 1973 that a newborn child “will ultimately develop into a human being” if he or she is properly fed and socialized.

“The fetus, given the opportunity to develop properly before birth, and given the essential early socializing experiences and sufficient nourishing food during the crucial early years after birth, will ultimately develop into a human being,” John P. Holdren, director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, wrote in “Human Ecology: Problems and Solutions.”

The specific passage expressing the authors’ view that a baby “will ultimately develop into a human being” is on page 235 in chapter 8 of the book, which is titled “Population Limitation.”

The same section of the book goes on to argue that abortion spares “unwanted children” from “undesirable consequences.”

St. Mary's, Wilmington - Fr. Kus Update

Ok, check out the "parish info" link on St. Mary's parish website: http://thestmaryparish.org/info_frame.htm

In the "Our Mission" section, Fr. Kus has identified his parish as follows: "The community of St. Mary’s is a vibrant and dynamic post-Vatican II parish of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Raleigh."

Did you get that? St. Mary's is a post-Vatican II parish! Now this explains everything! This is why Fr. Kus is so upset about the TLM coming to his parish. In Fr. Kus' mind, the TLM represents the pre-Vatican II religion, whereas Fr. Kus and his parishioners apparently ascribe to the POST-Vatican II religion.

Well I will at least say thank you to this priest for being so out in the open about who he is. Talk about the "hermeneutic of discontinuity." Someone notify the Holy Father, that hermeneutic is alive and well in Wilmington, North Carolina!!

I would of course go a bit further and say not only is it a matter of discontinuity, but it is a matter of diabolical disorientation. What was once good is now bad, and what was once bad is now good.

Ok, unless any new developments come my way this will be my last post on St. Mary's. I just had to share with everyone what I came across last night while perusing St. Mary's parish website.

I tell you what, though, I am really starting to look forward to bringing that "old time religion" back to the city of Wilmington, North Carolina and more specifically the "Catholic community" of St. Mary's. A taste of a little "pre-Vatican II religion" might do them a bit of good.

"I'm Leaving The Catholic Church"
No... not me

It's been a mixed week-end for me. As I posted about just the other day, the high point was assisting at the first ever Mass (said in the US) for a visiting Breton priest.

The low point was finding out that a life-long Catholic -- from a family of mixed Italian/Irish ancestry, which tells me this family has more than likely been Catholic for about the past 1,750 years -- is just so fed-up, so disheartened, so tired of being ignored about the flat-out garbage taking place in this Deanery, this person actually said "I'm leaving the Catholic Church".

I'm fairly sure this was said out of frustration, not conviction. But that it was said it at all is very telling.

You see, these folks aren't some angry "rad-trads" that people like me have been accused of being. Folks like the individual in question are a prime example of your average Catholic in the Cape Fear Deanery (and your Deanery as well?) --- just your average Catholics trying their level best to be good Catholics. This person wants desperately to attend a reverent, sacred Mass. And Novus Ordo is the only game in town. So they go... and with the best of intentions. The Church says the Novus Ordo is good-to-go, so they've willingly put the state of their immortal souls in the hands of the *clearing throat* shepherds around here.

And without a damn bit of prompting from the likes of me, this individual (and LOTS of other like-minded Catholics) have noticed that there sure are some things said and printed in the parishes in the greater Wilmington area, just didn't sit quite well, if not pushing the envelope of outright heresy.

But they put up with it... for years they put up with it. And the reward? The realization that this Deanery is a spiritual wasteland, a theological desert.

So they complained. Right up the chain of command they complained. And not just nit-picking whining, either. One doesn't have to scroll down very far on this particular blog to see exactly what I'm getting at. But anyhow, like the individual in question said; "all of our complaints have fallen on deaf ears."

It simply amazes me that certain members of the hierarchy can't understand why only 25% of Baptized Catholics still attend Mass.

Oh, This Is A Gem
I hope you like it as much as I did

I'm going to break on of my cardinal rules... post a long article. But I think it's worth it. It's as hilarious as it is informative.

Here's the entire article from The American Thinker;

Just how smart is Obama?
By Clarice Feldman

Just how smart is the President? Famous presidential historian Michael Beschloss, a regular on PBS's Newshour show,
says his IQ is "off the charts" and that he is "probably the smartest guy ever to become president," while admitting he doesn't know what his IQ is. I say: let's look at the evidence.

Obama's books

Jack Cashill has expended a great deal of effort at American Thinker to blast holes in the "foundational myth" that President Obama is a "literary genius".

Comparing books attributed to Obama with known undisputed samples of his writings, Cashill has shown that, in fact, Obama is a crappy writer, who, despite a Harvard-educated father, a mother with a PhD, attendance at the best private prep school in Hawaii and degrees from Columbia University and Harvard Law School, never mastered such elemental matters of grammar as the necessary agreement of verbs and nouns in a sentence.

I think Cashill's rather convincingly demonstrated his thesis that Obama never authored the two books which are cited as proof that he is some kind of literary genius.

But the "literary genius" foundational myth is not the only one in need of serious examination. The very notion that he merited admission let alone degrees from these rigorous and competitive institutions is called into question every time Obama makes an extemporaneous remark. He knows little or nothing about history, economics, law, geography and the grammar rules of his native tongue.

Obama Geography

"I've now been in 57 states -- I think one left to go."
"Eau Claire [Wisconsin] is a big important state."

"We only have a certain number [Arabic translators] of them and if they are all in Iraq, then it's harder for us to use them in Afghanistan," Obama said. (Afghanistan is not an Arabic-speaking country.)

"[I]t was also interesting to see that political interaction in Europe is not that different from the United States Senate. There's a lot of -- I don't know what the term is in Austrian, wheeling and dealing." (Confusing German for "Austrian", a language which does not exist.)

Obama History

"On this Memorial Day, as our nation honors its unbroken line of fallen heroes -- and I see many of them in the audience here today -- our sense of patriotism is particularly strong. " (He sees dead people?)

"I had a uncle who was one of the, who was part of the first American troops to go into Auschwitz and liberate the concentration camps...." (Stalin's army liberated Auschwitz, and he should use "an" before a word which begins with a vowel, a grammatical error he makes often .)

"I'm always worried about using the word 'victory,' because, you know, it invokes this notion of Emperor Hirohito coming down and signing a surrender to MacArthur...." (Hirohito never attended the surrender ceremony and you don't "sign a surrender".)

Obama Economics

"... profit and earnings ratio." (The correct term is the Price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio. Profit and earnings ratio is nonsensical.)

"The reforms we seek would bring greater competition, choice, savings and inefficiencies to our health care system," Obama said in remarks after a health care roundtable with physicians, nurses and health care providers. [emphasis added]

"Paying for what you spend is basic common sense."

"Think about that," he said, "California producing jobs, their economy keeping pace with the rest of the country and yet they've been able to maintain their energy usage in a much lower level than the rest of the country."

Obama Spoken Language

The point I was making was not that my grandmother harbors any racial animosity. But she is a typical white person. If she sees somebody on the street that she doesn't know. . .there's a reaction in her that don't [emphasis supplied] go away and it comes out in the wrong way."

While he argued that American children should learn to speak Spanish , he referred to the Cinco de Mayo celebration as Cinco de Cuatro (Five of Four)

Often the press smoothes the flubs over, and only careful transcribers like my friend jmh catch them as here where Obama shows he doesn't understand the what pronoun to use:

At 5 minute mark:

"At the end of the conversation there was discussion about ah -- my conversation with Sgt Crowley -- there was discussion about he and I and Professor Gates havin' a beer here in the White House, ah, we don't know if that's scheduled yet but ah..." (Of course, when he's trying to sound knowingly folksy he -- like Hillary -- also drops the final g in words.)
Sometimes as here -- he just makes up new meanings for words:

OBAMA: The government would play that role with respect to money that the government is spending. Right? Which it always -- it currently plays that role. That's not a change.

So Medicare and Medicaid -- those programs in which the government is involved and honing up [emphasis supplied]dollars, I think taxpayers would expect that we spend that money wisely. We don't want to see that money wasted on weapons systems that aren't needed. We don't want it spent on welfare programs that don't work. And we shouldn't want that spent on tests that aren't making people better.

Or he misuses them:

"I could have calibrated those words differently" [emphasis supplied]
Obama Law

He seems to have utterly
misread the U.S. Constitution and its role in our lives:

"...That generally the Constitution is a charter of negative liberties. Says what the states can't do to you, but doesn't say what the federal government or state government must do on your behalf. And that hasn't shifted." (Interview on WBEZ-FM 2001)
He seems to have skipped the First Amendment when he studied (and taught) Constitutional law:

In March, President Obama announced that government officials would not be allowed to consider the views of lobbyists regarding specific stimulus projects unless the requests are put in writing. The materials also had to be posted on an agency's website within three business days of receipt.
I have, with the help of fellow posters at Just One Minute, pulled together these representative errors not for the purpose of being mean spirited. We know we all are error prone from time to time. Just as we know that had Obama not been a certain favorite of the media each and every one of these illiteracies and gaffes would have received far more play than they have.

I have another purpose. I do not believe that someone with such a consistently weak understanding of economics, history the guiding legal document of our nation and its language merited admission to Columbia University or Harvard law school. Nor can I imagine how anyone could have merited graduation from these institutions (let alone edited the Harvard Law Review, the most prestigious legal publication of its kind) with these deficiencies.

Did his professors give him a special pass along the way? Or was he assisted in school, as Jack Cashill suggests he was assisted in his literary endeavors by ghost writers? Did others write his essays? Did he take only open book exams? Terrorist Bill Ayers, who Cashill says ghosted Dreams of my Father, lived close to Obama when he attended Columbia. Did he shepherd him through college, too? Ayers' wife, Bernardine Dohrn, went to the University of Chicago Law School but there is some overlap between the time she worked at Sidley Austin and Michelle Obama did. Dohrn worked there from 1984-1988 and Michelle apparently worked there as a summer associate for two years before she graduated in 1988 from Harvard law School. Obama began law school in 1988 and began work as a summer associate at Sidley Austin in 1989. It's hard to believe they all didn't know each other rather well.

In any event, people who entered these institutions under the normal admission rules, took the required courses, and faced stiff graduation requirements have got to start believing the President is undercutting the once far more prestigious value of their educational accomplishments.

Fr. Kus, St. Mary's, Wilmington,
http://thestmaryparish.org

Alright, I have to bring this back up because my question in the comment box of Caveman's post below was never answered. However, I also have some other thoughts so instead of just restating my question, I will once again cut and paste what Fr. Kus wrote in his Sunday bulletin and insert my comments in black. Fr.'s words are in red with my emphasis in bold and comments in black:

Fourth, beginning the last Sunday of August, the diocese will host a “forma extraordinaria” Mass at 7 p.m. at St. Mary’s upon my invitation[Again, I ask is this true? I do not think it is. It is my understanding of the situation in Wilmington that Fr. Kus is your average run of the mill "spirit of Vatican II" type. There is a name for that type of Catholic, but out of respect for the office he holds I will refrain from using it. Nevertheless, as I understand it from Wilmington locals, this priest has time and again through his actions and his words made it abundantly clear that he absolutely hates the TLM, he hates traditional Catholics, and he hates everything "pre-conciliar." So if my understandings are accurate and not the result of misinformation, someone please tell me how it is that such a priest now all of a sudden finds it in his heart to open his parish's doors so willingly to the TLM? What has changed such that he would actually INVITE traditional Catholics into his parish?]
It will occur the last Sunday of each month at 7 p.m. This Mass was common in modern times of our Church history but declined greatly when the Second Vatican Council asked us to go back to the ancient Mass, i.e., the Mass conducted in the language of the people [Here Fr. provides evidence to support one of my understandings, that being that he is a "spirit of Vatican II" type. Much like a liberal in politics, Fr. has just rewritten Church liturgical history and tradition to support his own ideology and agenda. How is it that such a priest would ever be able to tolerate the TLM and TLM parishiners in his parish? Even if it is just for one Sunday a month at a most inconvenient time].
The forma extraordinaria Mass is a diocesan event, not a ministry of St. Mary parish [Ah HA! So here we go. This is more like it. So all you traditionally minded Catholics can pretty much go to hell. Now we are getting back to how we truly feel].
Our parish will continue to only offer the ancient [Liberal tactic. Just make up history if history does not support your position.] form of the Mass in English and Spanish[Just a bizarre comment].
For more information on the forma extraordinaria Mass, contact the parish in Dunn, NC

[Now maybe I am just being too sensitive, but this last sentence ticked me off more than any of the other garbage written in this paragraph. For your information, that "parish in Dunn" is Sacred Heart. This priest seems to me to be filled with so much hate for the traditional faith that he is unable to even utter the formal name of one of the few parish churches in the diocese where Church Tradition is loved and cherished. Am I being too sensitive, or did this last sentence rub anyone else the wrong way?]

Anyway, I just thought I would bring this topic back to the fore because this was such an offensive little paragraph that I think it should continue to be discussed by all those who care about the state of the Church. On a positive note, the enemies of Tradition are making themselves known. Its no longer like the old days when they did everything by stealth. They are very easy to identify and avoid now.

Yes, I Have A VERY Big Problem With This
And as Catholics, you should too

WARNING! Harsh language alert!

I was perusing some pamphlet we received in the mail for various Catholic Teaching CD's. I was immediately suspect when I saw that their As Seen In: splash has such fine publications as;

- America Magazine
- National Catholic Reporter
- Commonweal
- The Tablet

That, and there were more S.J.'s that you could shake a stick at. You get the picture.

Anyhoo, I stumbled across a brief bio of one of the CD Presenters... a certain Father Ronald D Witherup, SS., Ph.D., Superior General of the Sulpician Order. His bio went on to state; "...he received his doctorate in biblical studies from Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, VA."Hmmm... I know of no Catholic seminary in Richmond, Virginia. What could this be!?

Well, I read up a bit on the Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Virginia. Turns out the proper name for this joint is the Union Theological Seminary & Presbyterian School of Christian Education.

How interesting. A Catholic priest received his doctorate at an institution that espouses heresy/error. Just to name a few:

- Denial of Papal Supremacy.
- Denial of certain Sacraments.
- Denial of The Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist.

Either that, or the Presbyterians all just crossed the Tiber and that somehow got by me.

Anyhow, this is bullshit.

Dare I say, one would be hard pressed to find a Traddie priest who would attend a heretical "seminary". The Novus Ordo seems to make a habit of it.

Professor Henry Louis Gates -- Just Some White Guy
I guess there's not that much money in White Studies

Henry Louis Gates -- Portait of a self-loathing creep.

God bless The American Thinker. Here's a bit of an article I think is well worth the read.

And I have a neat lil' suprise I've uncovered at the end of this post.

Impersonating a Victim
By W. R. Wansley

This past March 29th, Professor Henry Louis Gates was being interviewed in front of a small group by Walter Isaacson on C-SPAN's Book TV. Thirty-three minutes into the discussion about his new book on Lincoln, Professor Gates began a detailed account of his own genealogy. He said that in doing so he had discovered he was about "50% white". He said that this was quote, "To my astonishment and horror...".

He continued by saying that he had subsequently sent his DNA off to be tested. This time, upon finding out he was "57% white", he said again, "to my horror .... I was becoming more white by the minute". To this Gates, Isaacson and everyone else there chuckled.

Something tells me that if Mr. Isaacson had said that he also had sent his DNA off and found that to his "astonishment and horror" he was 57% black, no one would chuckle, least of all the Professor of African American Studies at Harvard, Dr. Gates.

This diminutive man is the epitome of intellectual elitism. He goes on book tours touting books he has written. He lectures at symposiums on race. He travels for pleasure. He is vaunted and toasted where ever he goes. He loves to talk about where he dines and drops a "Martha's Vineyard" or the like, in conversation here and there. Except for his being slightly handicapped -- he walks with a cane -- he is living a charmed life. He is embraced by his mostly lily-white fellow liberal elites. He makes a good living -- inside work with no heavy lifting.

Immune to embarrassment he continues undaunted. When he is asked by the officer to step outside, Gates articulately replies, "I'll step outside with yo'-mama!" The words of his repartee ring hollow -- even pathetic.
And funny too -- but alas I am laughing at him not with him. What a joke.

Gates must believe using such colloquialisms as "yo' mama" gives him some sort of black victimhood authenticity. What a fool. In reality, he is a member of the American aristocratic class. As a victim, he is an imposter.
While we're at it, check out the video here (they disabled embedding) and then go to 2:22 into the video. You'll hear this phony say "...do what standard PBS documentaries do when they're addressing the Black world, which is they get some White guy to write it, and then they get Denzel or Morgan to read it, you know, with their voice-over, and that's not me..."
Ummm... guess what? 57% means you're a majority of. And that means you're that "White guy" that you despise so much.

Emperor Hirohito And The Latin Mass
More of a connection than you may think

We've had the discussion many a time on this blog concerning languages. One of the points that I maintain is that when the Latin Mass was officially instituted by Pope St. Gregory the Great in the 500's, Latin was essentially dead.

Here's the sticking point many have... Latin was still in use then. How in the world can I legitimately say that "Latin was dead"? And to a certain degree, they got me. But only to a certain degree.

Classical (what we present day call 'Liturgical') Latin was no longer in use then, but instead, Vulgar (common) Latin was the language of the Empire. And there most certainly was/is a difference between the Classical and the Vulgar.

Just like when Emperor Hirohito broadcasted to the Japanese people the surrender of 1945. Besides the shock of hearing the voice of 'god' over their radio, the people simply didn't understand the type of Japanese the Emperor was speaking. They somewhat recognized a certain word here and there, and it was recognizable as a 'type' of Japanese. But for the most part, he could have been speaking Martian as far as the common folk were concerned.

And why was this? Because the Emperor was speaking in the archaic and very formal Japanese language used by the Imperial Court.

Just like the difference between Liturgical and Vulgar Latin.

Even present day, it's arguable that we have two different Russian languages, two different Italian languages, two different Spanish languages, etc. The formal and the informal... right?

But anyhow, the next time someone tells you that 'we need to worship in the ancient language', you might want to remind them exactly why Pope St. Gregory the Great instituted the Latin Mass in Liturgical Latin to begin with.

Oh, and if someone laughably states the Novus Ordo is "the ancient form of the Mass in English and Spanish", you might want to remind them that English and Spanish didn't even exist back then. And it's a safe bet that there were no clown costumes or bongos and banjoes used in the Mass back then.

___________________________
UPDATE!!

Adeodatus49 has suggested that I have seriously confused Ecclesiastical (Liturgical) Latin and Classical Latin. After looking deeper into this, Adeodatus is right. I dropped the ball. And when I dug deeper, I also found that when The Mass of Gregory the Great was formulated way back when, Ecclesiastical Latin (even though similar to the vulgar) was no longer in use and essentially, a dead language (for lack of a better phrase).

The whole point I'm trying (and evidently, failing miserably) to get at here is what some priests and other scholars have said in the past -- Pope St Gregory the Great purposfully chose Ecclesiastical Latin for a reason, vice the common vulgar. And that reason (according to my sources) is because he knew that Ecclesiastical Latin was unchanging.

But in the meantime, Adeodatus pointed out an error. He's right. I'm wrong.

Well, Seeing It's Already Out There...
Thank you 'alert reader', whoever you are

From Father Zuhlsdorf's blog, What Does The Prayer Really Say?

And suffice it to say, I'm soooooooo glad Father posted this. And from what I recall, Father Zuhlsdorf is pretty well connected in Rome.

A curious parish bulletin note
CATEGORY: SESSIUNCULA — Fr. John Zuhlsdorf @ 2:38 pm

An alert reader sent me the following notice about a comment in a parish bulletin in the Diocese of Raleigh, NC, St. Mary’s in Willmington where Fr. Robert Kus.

Fourth, beginning the last Sunday of August, the diocese will host a “forma extraordinaria” Mass at 7 p.m. at St. Mary’s upon my invitation. It will occur the last Sunday of each month at 7 p.m. This Mass was common in modern times of our Church history but declined greatly when the Second Vatican Council asked us to go back to the ancient Mass, i.e., the Mass conducted in the language of the people. The forma extraordinaria Mass is a diocesan event, not a ministry of St. Mary parish. Our parish will continue to only offer the ancient form of the Mass in English and Spanish. For more information on the forma extraordinaria Mass, contact the parish in Dunn, NC.
Let’s get this straight…

•The older Mass, pre-Conciliar, or forma extraordinaria was once "common"!
•Vatican II asked us to go back to the "ancient Mass", which is the Novus Ordo!
•Vatican II wanted us to go back to the "language of the people", as in ancient times!
•The ancient form of Mass is in English and Spanish.

Father needs a refresher course.

On the other hand, I am glad that he has been willing to host an event for the diocese.

In Honor Of Our Visiting Priest From France Via Brittany
M. l'abbé Hugues Beaugrand, IBP. 2d from the right

It's not everyday that a lil' country parish in the wilds of the Sand Hills area of North Carolina gets someone from the Institute of The Good Shepherd to drop by just to say hey y'all (in a French accent, of course).

And if you were wondering, the IBP (l'Institut du Bon Pasteur) is kinda like the French version of the FSSP, but in light of their overt Gallicism... well, I'll let that go.

But fortunate we are to have Father Beaugrand celebrating his very first Mass in The United States, and a High Mass to boot! Hopefully, Father Parkerson (being the fine Southern Gentleman that he is) had the good manners to take Fr. Beaugrand to Smithfield's Chicken 'N BBQ after Mass.

And speaking of Mass (the Traditional Latin kind), I couldn't help but notice the following;

1. The lady sitting next to me is originally from Korea.
2. The family across the isle and two pews up are originally from Puerto Rico.
3. I ran into a lady after Mass who spoke with a very heavy Eastern European accent.
4. As previously stated, the visiting priest is from France.

Amazingly enough, we all worshipped in the same language and also understood exactly what was going on.

THAT'S true Catholic diversity in action.

"Livin' The Dream" ~
Anonymous Marine, Afghanistan

I've asked before... I'll ask again. Where do we get men such as these?

The young kids that fill the ranks of my beloved Corps make this beat-up ol' Master Sergeant beyond proud. May God be with each and every one of 'em.

From Michael Yon (of Online Magazine);

The U.S. Marines are flooding in, and you might think that every Marine helicopter in our arsenal is here. I’ll not give numbers and types other than to say the line of aircraft is long and formidable.

The U.S. Marines are a spectacle for the U.S. Army and also the British Army. The Marines will come in and live like pure animals, and build a base around themselves, whereas the British and American Armies will tend to build at least part of the base before coming in. One Marine commander told me that during the early part of this war, his men didn’t even shower for three months. We talked for a couple of hours and he was proud that his Marines didn’t need a shower for three months, and that his Marines killed a lot of Taliban and managed to lose only one good man. That’s the Marines. They’ll show up in force with no warning, and their reputation with U.S. Army and Brits who have fought alongside them is stellar. A NPR photographer who just spent more than three weeks with the Marines could not praise them enough, saying he’d been with them in Iraq, too, and that when Marines take casualties, their reaction is to continue to attack. They try to stay in contact until they finish the enemy, no matter how long it takes. Truly they are animals when it comes to the fight. Other than that, great guys. Tonight at dinner, a young Marine Lance Corporal sat in front of me at the crowded dining facility. “Good evening, Sir,” he said. I asked, “Are you living like animals out there?” “Livin’ the dream, Sir!” They are fantastic.

By the way... anyone who has a son interested in joining the Service, if they wonder what the Marine Corps has to offer them, the answer is simple -

Not a damn thing. With the exception of suffering, hardship and pain. And of course, the pride that comes with being a Unites States Marine.

In Defense Of The Novus Ordo Missæ
Seriously...

No... this posting isn't about the liturgical and spiritual superiority of the Traditional Latin Mass over the Novus Ordo Missæ.

Nah, I've just been wondering as to why any Catholic with even a lick of common sense and who takes their Catholicism seriously would continue to attend a parish that conducts Mass, at a minimum, in a fashioned that is watered-down, simplistic, and in many a case, quite honestly... childish.

Now that was just at the minimum. How about at a maximum? Well, that's real easy... at a maximum, there is outright heresy involved in the celebration of the Novus Ordo Mass. Period.

I have a funny feeling right now that more than a few folks reading this are ready to have their heads explode in anger. No need for any cranial fulminations. If this post (or this blog in general) pisses you off that badly, the big white "X" button in the upper right hand is there for a reason. Believe me, my world simply will not fizzle-out of existence if someone is all that upset with me.

Really.

But for those who look upon this subject with even a modicum of objectivity, stick with me. If you disagree with me after reading this, then please... comment away.

Anyhow, I've posted in the past how the New Mass in and of itself is designed to be an instrument that must fluctuate, change, evolve... yes, even the word 'mutate' works.

The New Mass runs the gamut from a serious attempt to be reverent and embracing a sense of the sacred (as best a Novus Ordo Mass could), to the outright pagan/heretical.

With all the ambiguities in the rubrics of such, it's quite simply, engineered that way. It's made to be the Do-It-Yourself Mass kit.

Anyhow, with all the conditional statements out of the way, why DO so many attend the Novus Ordo? That's real easy. We're programmed to think that way.

That's right, I said programmed.

How many times have we walked out of Mass with that nagging feeling that something wasn't 'quite right'? Or that we know deep-down inside that some of the things Father said in his sermon were objectionable, if not flat-out insulting to Christ and His Church?

Or even at it's worse... that we walk away from Mass with a feeling that we've done nothing more than ticked off another box in our to-do list? Instead of leaving Mass totally enveloped in a sense of awe, gratitude and spiritual peace... we've exited with nothing more than a shoulder shrug and a grunted hmph.

But we kept our mouths shut. We accepted it.

And why not? Western Culture has hammered into our collective brains that we're suppose to accept what's easy, simple, effortless. Anything that requires effort is strictly verboten. And let's be honest... sacrifice has become the longest four-letter word ever. And those that do accept hardships of any kind are usually sneered at and looked upon with a condescending disdain.

The Novus Ordo Catholic Mass has become almost indistinguishable from your average Protestant worship service. C'mon... how many times have we heard Protestants attending their first N.O. Mass and walk out saying things like "that was just like our service!"? And many Catholics have been just a little too comfortable with that.

But that's what our culture has ingrained in us. Go with the flow. Don't put forth any effort. Obey your oh so subtle atheistic masters. Happily accept the big-assed, ugly and equally gaudy Church Participation trophy. You don't really have to DO anything... just be there.

Don't actually make a meal. That's what Domino's is for.

God forbid you have to walk a half-mile down the road. Drive your car.

Exercise and diet are for the stupid. That's why we have liposuction and pills.

Don't have the responsibility for raising children. Wrap a condom around it and call it Social Awareness.

It really is unnecessary to take God that serious. That's why we have the Novus Ordo.

________________________________

UPDATE!

I've received a couple of thought provoking comments so far (TCM and Ingrid). Both of them correctly point out that Christ is present in the Eucharist during the Novus Ordo Missæ. I've always maintained that the same.

Here's what I'm getting at -- besides the fact that a side-by-side comparison of the two liturgies clearly demonstrate how liturgically weaker the New Mass is, I'd like everyone to consider this; shouldn't there have been a seamless transition between the Traditional Latin Mass and the Novus Ordo back in the late 60's and early 70's? Of course... but that never happened.

The Church has been in an veritable nose dive ever since. There simply is no getting around that.

But why has The Church undergone such declines? Simple. The Novus Ordo doesn't expect anyone to take up their cross daily. That's much too painful and inconvenient.

Cardinal Antonio Canizares Llovera, the prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship, has reiterated that politicians who support legal abortion should be barred from receiving Communion. Because these individuals are engaged in gravely sinful behavior, the Spanish prelate told LifeSite News, it would be an act of charity for a priest to withhold Communion, preventing them from blasphemous reception of the Eucharist.

Anti-Catholic Bound For Prison
Convicted of sex with minors

Keeping in mind Matt. 7:1 and the Church’s own (primarily homosexual) sex scandal in the last several years, I can’t help but admit a certain glee that rabid anti-Catholic Tony Alamo is going to prison for child abuse.

Tony Alamo, 74, could spend the rest of his life in prison after the evangelist was convicted by an Arkansas jury of taking five girls as young as 9 across state lines for sex. The victims testified that Alamo "married" them in private ceremonies while they were minors.

Each said they were taken out of the state for Alamo's sexual gratification. As the convicted child molester was being taken back to jail, Alamo had the nerve to said he's "just another one of the prophets that went to jail for the Gospel." This is the guy whose Alamo Christian Ministries has preached that the Catholic Church and U.S. government are both tools of Satan. He blamed the charges against him on a conspiracy led by the Vatican. His “church” was famous for publishing those tiny, trashy comic books that always had the Holy Father or priests, bishops, and nuns as ugly villian.

Alamo tried for several years go launch a music career before he and his second wife founded the Tony and Susan Alamo Christian Foundation in California in 1969. They later moved to Arkansas.

“Ya, I’ll speak with your mama outside...” ~
Professor Henry Gates, Jr. Harvard University, Director of the W. E. B. Du Bois Institute for African and African American Research.

Patrick Archbold over at Creative Minority Report has the entire police report of Sgt. Crowley posted on his blog. Here's just some of it; (Emphasis mine)
As I began walking through the foyer toward the front door, I could hear Gates agai,n demanding my name. I again told Gates that I would speak with him outside. My reason for wanting to leave the residence was that Gates was yelling very loud and the acoustics of the kitchen and foyer were making it difficult for me to transmit pertinent information to ECC or other responding units. His reply was “ya, I’ll speak with your mama outside”. When I left the residence, I noted that there were several Cambridge and Harvard University police officers assembled on the sidewalk in front of the residence. Additionally, the caller, md at least seven unidentified passers-by were looking in the direction of Gates, who had followed me outside of the residence.

As I descended the stairs to the sidewalk, Gates continued to yell at me, accusing me of racial bias and continued to tell me that I had not heard the last of him. Due to the tumultuous manner Gates had exhibited in his residence as well as his continued tumultuous behavior outside the residence, in view of the public, I warned Gates that he was becoming disorderly. Gates ignored my warning and continued to yell, which drew the attention of both the police officers and citizens, who appeared surprised and alarmed by Gates’s outburst. For a second time I warned Gates to calm down while I withdrew my department issued handcuffs from their carrying case. Gates again ignored my warning and continued to yell at me. It was at this time that I informed Gates that he was under arrest. I then stepped up the stairs, onto the porch and attempted to place handcuffs on Gates. Gates initially resisted my attempt to handcuff him, yelling that he was “disabled” and would fall without his cane. After the handcuffs were property applied, Gates complained that they were too tight. I ordered Off. Ivey, who was among the responding officers, to handcuff Gates with his arms in front of him for his comfort while I secured a cane for Gates from within the residence. I then asked Gates if he would like an officer to take possession of his house key and secure his front door, which he left wide open. Gates told me that the door was un securable due to a previous break attempt at the residence. Shortly thereafter, a Harvard University maintenance person arrived on scene and appeared familiar with Gates. I asked Gates if he was comfortable with this Harvard University maintenance person securing his residence. He told me that he was.
That Neo-Nazi Crowley simply MUST be put up on charges of hate crimes!! Oh... wait... Gates was in the wrong. Sgt. Crowley was actually just doing his job.

All this must be Bush's fault.

Meet The Stupid Racist Hatemonger DingleBarry Spoke Of At His Press Conference
Why hasn't this guy been shipped off to a Napalitano Re-Education Camp yet!?

The NY Daily News gives a basic sketch of what's going on with The South-Side Stooge playing the race card bit. As Doofus stated in his press conference; "The Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof that they were in their own home."

[Cambridge Police Sgt. James] Crowley was on the defensive earlier in the day following Obama's sharp remark.

"I just have nothing to apologize for," Crowley said, insisting he wasn't a racist. And the Cambridge Police Superior Officers Association seems to agree.

"Upon review, the Association expresses its full and unqualified support for the actions taken by Sgt. Crowley in response to the report of a possible break-in at a residence on Ware Street in Cambridge," the union said in a statement.

Crowley had harsh words for the President, too. "I think he was way off base wading into a local issue without knowing all the facts," Crowley told Boston radio station WBZ-AM. "I acted appropriately. I've done nothing wrong." (Read more here)

Obama noted during his ABC News interview that he felt the arrest was one that simply got out of hand.

"Words were exchanged between the police officer and Mr. Gates," he said, "and everybody should have just settled down and cooler heads should have prevailed."

The incident happened last week after Gates, 58, a Harvard professor, returned home from a trip to China. While he had trouble entering his home, a passerby reported it to police as a possible break-in. Police arrived and demanded Gates prove he lived in the house. The professor became agitated and criticized the police. Cops later arrested him outside his home.
So what exactly WAS the big bruhaha? WHY did this particular Police Sergeant ARREST Professor Gates, anyhow? The Daily News fails to say exactly why. Politics Daily gives the inside skinny; Cambridge Police defend Crowley's actions, saying Gates initially refused to show identification, yelled at Crowley and repeatedly called the white officer a racist. Why am I not shocked this Gates idiot is a friend of that equally idiotic president?

But anyhow, if you REALLY want to see for yourself what a racist scumbag this Sgt Crowley is... take a gander at this article from The Boston Herald; The Cambridge cop prominent Harvard University professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. claims is a racist gave a dying Reggie Lewis mouth-to-mouth resuscitation in a desperate bid to save the Celtics [team stats] superstar’s life 16 years ago Monday.

“I wasn’t working on Reggie Lewis the basketball star. I wasn’t working on a black man. I was working on another human being,” Sgt. James Crowley, in an exclusive interview with the Herald, said of the forward’s fatal heart attack July 27, 1993, at age 27 during an off-season practice at Brandeis University, where Crowley was a campus police officer.

It’s a date Crowley still can recite by rote - and he still recalls the pain he suffered when people back then questioned whether he had done enough to save the black athlete.
Oh yeah... this racist bastard needs his head served up on a silver platter.

The Spirit Of Vatican II iPhone
So warm... so fuzzy

Nothing keeps today's Neo-Protestant slim 'n trim like ducking out of Mass early, dodging Confession, executing profound bows that would make an 18th century French homosexual seethe with envy, and the all time SoV2 fav, giving the heave-ho to 2,000 years of Catholicism. Now you can keep track of exactly how many calories were worked off. Much like the state of their immortal soul -- feel the burn!

So what exactly does it feel like when centuries worth of Saints and Popes turn over in their graves?

What to do, what to do? Sister Mary Bulldyke, Liturgy Czar over at the USCCB has dreamt up a new Mass involving Halloween costumes, macrame, half a dozen banjos, transgendered sock puppets, and a virgin and a mule. Does it meet the strict standards of being labeled SoV2 Worthy? Not to worry. This app will always tilt to the left.

Can't make it to the Celebration of The Eucharist at Sts. Fidel and Che this Sunday? Fret not. This Blood of Christ app satisfies your Sunday obligation. Now available in a refreshing sauvignon blanc!

Reportedly the number one app on Rembie Weakland's iPhone.

Can't dumb down the English language fast enough? Too stupid to understand the meanings of sullied, unfeigned, ineffable, gibbet, wrought or thwart? The Effing The Ineffable app is guaranteed to ensure your Liturgy is understood by 2d Graders. After all, it's written by 2d Graders! Troutperson approved.

Ohhh... just so you can stay current on what The Holy Father is up to.

Jakarta, We Have A Problem
Another bit of a credibility gap? Noooo...... *Sarcasm Off*

First, Pinochibama tells us how is parents met and fell in love at the Civil Rights march in Selma, Alabama, back in 1965. But he was born in 1961.

And let's not forget how he told us hair-raising stories of his uncle parachuting into Auschwitz to save all the prisoners back in World War II. But it was really the Russians who liberated Auschwitz. Dingle Barry's uncle was a few hundred miles to the west at the time.

Now we have this bit of questionable chronology from the Doofus-In-Chief as reported from WorldNetDaily.com; (Emphasis mine) Mr. President, we have a problem
Obama recalls Apollo 11 splashdown in Hawaii – while he lived in Indonesia

On this week's 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, President Obama praised the pioneering American astronauts and recalled his own childhood memories in Hawaii of NASA capsules splashing down in the Pacific.

But Houston, we have a problem. The president actually lived in Indonesia in 1969.

During his speech with the Apollo 11 crew, Obama told the astronauts:

The country continues to draw inspiration from what you've done. I should note, just personally, I grew up in Hawaii, as many of you know, and I still recall sitting on my grandfather's shoulders when those capsules would land in the middle of the Pacific and they'd get brought back and we'd go out and we'd pretend like they could see us as we were waving at folks coming home. And I remember waving American flags and my grandfather telling me that the Apollo mission was an example of how Americans can do anything they put their minds to.
However, Obama lived in Indonesia as a child, from 1967 to 1971, with his mother and stepfather – and not with his grandfather and grandmother, Stanley and Madelyn Dunham, in Hawaii.

Despite several statements made by the president about his childhood years in Jakarta, Obama's own White House biography begins with his alleged birth in Hawaii Aug. 4, 1961, and makes no mention of Indonesia.

It was not until Obama turned 10 that he moved to Honolulu to live with his grandparents.

The Apollo 11 splashdown took place 1,440 nautical miles east of Wake Island and 210 nautical miles south of Johnston Atoll on July 24, 1969 – just before Obama's eighth birthday.
And in case anyone thinks I'm pulling a Dingle Barry with my time frames, even the Communist News Network admits the following; Obama lived in Indonesia as a child, from 1967 to 1971, with his mother and stepfather...But is it a sin to question the Obamessiah? Never mind the fact that he told a bold-faced lie directly to the faces of real American heroes.

Yep... The Audacity of Dope.

Enjoy this tale of tolerance and acceptance from The Daily Mail (UK); (Emphasis mine) Christian teacher tells of race slurs by pupils aged 8

Nicholas Kafouris says he was forced out after highlighting the rise in racism among pupils at Bigland Green Primary school in East London

A teacher claims he has been sacked for reprimanding pupils who made racist remarks about his being a Christian. Nicholas Kafouris said he lost his £30,000-a-year post because he would not tolerate the 'openly racist' behaviour of pupils as young as eight.

He said the predominantly Muslim youngsters openly praised Islamic extremists in class, and hailed the September 11 terrorists as 'heroes and martyrs'.

Greek-born Mr Kafouris, 40, taught for more than ten years at Bigland Green Primary in Tower Hamlets, East London, where according to the most recent Ofsted report 'almost all' the 465 pupils are from ethnic minorities and a vast proportion do not speak English as a first language.

He is taking the school, its headmistress and assistant head to an employment tribunal where he will claim he was forced out after highlighting the rise in racism among pupils. In 2006, said Mr Kafouris, he brushed against a boy while giving him a book. 'He said rather brusquely to me, "Don't touch me, you're a Christian". I found this very offensive.'

Later that year, he said children aged eight and nine in his class praised the suicide bombers in the 9/11 attacks. 'In late November and December 2006, many various unacceptable and openly racist, anti-Semitic and anti-Christian remarks were being made by many and various children in Year 4,' he said.

'These included, "We want to be Islamic bombers when we grow up", "the Twin Towers bombers are heroes and martyrs", "we hate the Jews" and "we hate the Christians".'
And in January 2007, he claims some pupils 'expressed delight' that a child had died when a wall collapsed on him in London. When asked why, he said one of the children replied: 'Because he's English.' The following month, during a religious education lesson about Jonah and the whale, he claims one of the pupils asked if Jonah was a Jew, before shouting: 'I hate the Jews, they're our enemies.'

Mr Kafouris says he completed 'Racist Incident Reporting Sheets' and notified headmistress Jill Hankey in writing about each incident. But he claims his concerns were ignored because she wanted to maintain the school's 'good' Ofsted rating.

Obama Shall Set You Free
True at Auschwitz, true in America

Dear America,
What in the HELL does it take for you to wake up?

Here's just a bit of a rather disturbing article from Fox News; (Emphasis mine) Obama's Science Czar Considered Forced Abortions, Sterilization as Population Growth Solutions

John Holdren, director of the White House's Office of Science and Technology Policy, considered compulsory abortions and other Draconian measures to shrink the human population in a 1977 science textbook.

President Obama's "science czar," Paul Holdren, once floated the idea of forced abortions, "compulsory sterilization," and the creation of a "Planetary Regime" that would oversee human population levels and control all natural resources as a means of protecting the planet -- controversial ideas his critics say should have been brought up in his Senate confirmation hearings.

He was confirmed with little fanfare on March 19 as director of the White House's Office of Science and Technology Policy, a 50-person directorate that advises the president on scientific affairs, focusing on energy independence and global warming.
Gee, I wonder why CBS, CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NPR, etc, etc, ad nauseum, are almost totally ignoring this story?

But hey... when you constantly sing "Barack, Barack Über Alles...", how can you concentrate on anything else?

No Alligator Tears For Walter Cronkite

Uncle Walter Appears As An Angel Of Light
And he brought the Wicked Witch from the North with him

In every glib comment, there a grain (and sometimes a truckload) of truth. I tend to think the latter when Walter Cronkite was presented some award from group calling itself the World Federalist Association.

The ol' Cronkster made no bones about his desire for nations to surrender certain aspects of national sovereignty in his clarion call for One World Government. And as Uncle Walter was chiding and ridiculing Christianity in general (and Pat Robertson specifically) that there would be no world order until the 'arrival of The Messiah', and anything done for such without Christ, is the work of the devil. Much laughter from the assembled minions at this point.

But I wasn't laughing when Cronkite said; "Join me, I'm glad to sit at the right hand of satan".

Remember, this is the same Walter Cronkite who publicly stated "The Viet-Nam War is unwinnable" during the Tet Offensive. Never mind the fact that the US Armed Forces kicked the living shit out of the Viet Cong. Hell, they had their asses whipped so badly, they were knocked out of the war for the remainder of the war, and North Viet-Nam (who were ALREADY in-country) had to militarily fill the vacuum.

But gee, I thought that Viet-Nam was just a civil war. At least that's what my hippie, draft-dodger college history professors told me.

Oh, and Uncle Walter, too.

Another Bishop Points Out The Obvious
If we're a 'Christ Centered Church', why isn't Christ centered in all our churches?

You know things are pretty screwed-up when it takes a BISHOP to re-emphasize the Sacrament of Confession, or that Christ should be the central focal point in our churches.

And yes... I'm making a BIG DEAL over this. Think about it -- if you were taught to treat your spouse as "no big deal", it's only a matter of time before you treat your spouse like dirt.

With that in mind, here's some of an article from the Catholic News Agency; (Emphasis mine)

Tabernacle placement must be 'central and visible,' Bishop D’Arcy says

Bishop John M. D'ArcyFort Wayne, Ind., Jul 19, 2009 / 04:56 am (CNA).- Bishop of Fort Wayne-South Bend John M. D’Arcy has issued new norms on the placement of the tabernacle in churches, aiming to end controversy on the topic.

The bishop described the new norms and the reasons for them in a July 19 letter posted on the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend website and addressed to priests, deacons, religious, and all the faithful.

“The presence of Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament is at the center of our faith and of the devotional life of our Catholic people,” his letter began.

Saying tabernacle placement has become “a source of controversy,” he said the Eucharist should always be “a means of unity and communion, and never of division.”

“The place of the tabernacle in our church should reflect our faith in the real presence of Christ, and should always be guided by church documents,” Bishop D’Arcy continued.

In his experience, people have always desired the tabernacle to be “central and visible” and find it “confusing” when it is not.

The norms state that the tabernacle should be “prominently located in the sanctuary of the church, along the central axis behind the main altar ... at an elevated, open location in the apse area, or in another central place in the sanctuary that is equally conspicuous.”

If a high altar with a tabernacle remains in place, the norms add, “it is appropriate to continue using this noble structure for the reservation of the Blessed Sacrament.”

The norms are to applied to all future construction or restoration projects, and in churches where the tabernacle is not centrally located a consultation should begin to determine how to do so.
Our Bishop here in the Diocese of Raleigh, well over a year ago instituted essentially the same thing;

106. As the Real Presence of Christ, truly present in the Holy Eucharist, the Blessed Sacrament is reserved in the tabernacle located in or near the sanctuary of the church building such that is truly noble, prominent, readily visible, beautifully decorated, suitable for prayer, and sufficiently elevated. The tabernacle is therefore not to be located behind where the assembly is seated in the nave. Care is also to be taken not to place the chair of the principal celebrant in front of the tabernacle or in any such fashion that will obscure the tabernacle from the assembly.

Permission for the tabernacle to be located in a chapel for daily Mass will be given if the reservation of the Holy Eucharist can also be maintained in the main church building according to the stated norms.
Just in the Cape Fear Deanery (where I live), one of the larger parishes finally placed the Tabernacle front and center... after approximately one year from the Norms being announced, and well past the implementation date. Hmmm... In all honesty, I'm not sure of all the in's-and-out's in this specific case, but how hard can it be?

And there's another 'Community'(?) here that still has Christ in the Broom Closet. I'm not going to say who, but just type "Liberal Catholic" in this blog's search engine upper left. Anyhow, they've still yet to place the Tabernacle front and center... but it is "near the sanctuary".

They must have an ACLU bottom feeder on the parish council who argued that point.
