Screw You, Great Britain
The cracks are beginning to show
This is what happens when a boy tries to do a man's job.
Here's a bit from The Telegraph (of London); (Emphasis mine)
Barack Obama 'too tired' to give proper welcome to Gordon Brown
Barack Obama's offhand approach to Gordon Brown's Washington visit last week came about because the president was facing exhaustion over America's economic crisis and is unable to focus on foreign affairs, the Sunday Telegraph has been told.
Sources close to the White House say Mr Obama and his staff have been "overwhelmed" by the economic meltdown and have voiced concerns that the new president is not getting enough rest.
British officials, meanwhile, admit that the White House and US State Department staff were utterly bemused by complaints that the Prime Minister should have been granted full-blown press conference and a formal dinner, as has been customary. They concede that Obama aides seemed unfamiliar with the expectations that surround a major visit by a British prime minister.
Allies of Mr Obama say his weary appearance in the Oval Office with Mr Brown illustrates the strain he is now under, and the president's surprise at the sheer volume of business that crosses his desk. (Funny, Bush never got a pass like that from the media.)
A well-connected Washington figure, who is close to members of Mr Obama's inner circle, expressed concern that Mr Obama had failed so far to "even fake an interest in foreign policy". The official dismissed any notion of the special relationship, saying: "There's nothing special about Britain. You're just the same as the other 190 countries in the world. You shouldn't expect special treatment." And again from The Telegraph;
The special relationship is a joke, and it isn't funny
Barack Obama should be careful how he treats the British - one day he'll need us, says Iain Martin.
And then there were the presents. The Browns had taken a degree of care, arriving with a pen holder made from the timbers of HMS Gannet, an anti-slave trade ship, and a first edition of Gilbert's seven volume biography of Churchill. The Obama daughters received dresses and necklaces chosen by Sarah Brown.
Did the Obamas spend more than a few seconds thinking about gifts in return? For the Brown sons there were matching models of the President's helicopter, suggesting a last-minute dash by an aide to the White House gift shop. The grown-up Browns were even less lucky: they received a box of 25 DVDs, including ET, The Wizard of Oz and Psycho. Speaking of Obama's mad dash to Blockbuster, I think Mark Steyn said it best;
I’ll be interested to know if Mr. Brown has anything to play the films on back home, since U.S.-format DVDs don’t work in United Kingdom DVD players.

If it wasn't for the fact that we would end up with Joey B, I would say, if you can't handle the job Obama, maybe you better quit.
Can you imagine Churchill, McArthur, Eisenhower or Washington let being tired stop them? Or using the excuse of the strain being too much?
God help us! The Obama gang has basically invited every terrorist to launch an attack on the US. & told all our allies to go to Hell.
Hideous. Britain has been a strong, reliable ally for some time, and it's a stupid man who slights them this way.
Well, we reap what we sow.
obama is a tool.
He didn't even have the brains to give them Blu-Ray.
You know, the more I read about President Obama, the more I suspect the diagnosis of Narcissistic Personality Disorder is correct. He seems to have had no idea how hard the President really must work.
The "Telegraph" article omitted mention of another gift - the original commission for the HMS Resolute in 1850 in a custom framed, a priceless historical artifact. The Resolute was a sister ship to the Gannett.
Who's acting as Chief of Protocol for the White House these days? BO's mother-in-law? One of his failed, tax-evading Cabinet appointments? Obviously no one bothered to find out if American DVDs played on British equipment.
Also, in case you missed it, shirtly after taking over, BO and his rookie staff sent back to the Brits a bust of Churchill they had given the Pres after 9-11 as a sign of their solidarity with us. The return was considered an affront by the Brits. I wonder if their gift of the Churchill biography was a subtle dig?
If memory serves me, the brits beat up our President Bush for the past 8 years. yes, Blair sent troops to support us and came over to show solidarity. But what have the british people been doing to us for the past 8 years but show us contempt. Well they fell in love with Obama on the left and he pissed on them just like he is pissing on us. Let them rot for about 4 years with the empty suit leader they cheered for when the idiots voted him into office. Maybe next time we elect a leader with some experience and leadership who actually cared about England, they might treat them a little better. Until then, let them stew...
FAB... I wonder the same thing myself. If so... good show for the Brits.
Yeah... Americans are not exactly loved over here in Britain. The Brits like to blame all problems on America and us Americans. The same with the rest of the world. America makes a great Whipping Boy for the whiners of the world that think they never do anything wrong of their own accord.
But even still... DVDs for official gifts?!?!?!
And no matter the public opinion of Brits about Americans, our President should still be mature and professional when meeting with the Prime Minister! Too tired??? Model helicopters and DVDs??? Good gravy!
