You Do The Math
The mathmatics of war, that is
I was having a discussion the other day with someone concerning the War On Terrorism. One thing I tried to impress on the individual I was talking with, was one of the primary rules of warfighting; take the fight to the enemy.
As I've said many a time on this blog... if we leave Iraq right now, what do you think the terrorists will do? Stay home and sharpen their knives, screw the goat and beat the wife?
It all comes down to simple math.
Does it make more sense to have our Marines, sailors, soldiers airmen and Coast Guardsmen fight and kill 10,000 fairly well trained terrorists in Iraq... or have our fire fighters, paramedics, and law enforcement officers respond to the action(s) of a 100 highly trained terrorists here in America?
UPDATE
By good goomba, Al over at Is Anybody There? injects an interesting equation of his own;
The problem we have here in the USA is that most of those who want us out, see the 10,000 terrorists lives as worth more that a few hundred American lives (except when it comes to justify pulling out.)
In the "Cut & Run" mind this is (unfortunately) the math:
A = American life
T = Terrorist life
1000(A) = 1(T)
instead of the real math
10,000(T) < 1(A)
Of course this applies only in the area of defense since all humans have equal value as far as souls etc.

Now that is a totally cool point that I never would have thoght of.
Cavie,
While I agree absolutely with your point, the problem we have here in the USA is that most of those who want us out see the 10,000 terrorists lives as worth more that a few hundred American lives (except when it comes to justify pulling out.)
