How About Some Truth From Catholic News Services?
Just give me the news
Both LifeSite and Zenit got it wrong... or at least they propagandized it to the point where it's no longer 'news'.
The headline from LifeSite proclaims; 'U.S. Bishops' Conference Promotes Federal Constitutional Marriage Amendment'. While Zenit announces in their headline; 'Bishops Promoting Marriage Amendment'. Golly gee, that sure does sound like the entire USCCB has joined together and in one strong-willed voice, has collectively began to act as Catholic leaders are suppose to act!
For a brief shining moment, I was about to break with tradition and sing the praises of the USCCB. To my sadness, I found instead that what really happened was that Bishop William S. Skylstad, President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), has written to all Catholic Bishops asking that the bishops and the people in their dioceses become involved in the effort to support a federal constitutional marriage amendment.
Not the entire Conference... not even a plurality. Just one, single, lone bishop.
I will say this... good for Bishop Skylstad. It's about time he started talking like a Catholic Bishop should. And I certainly hope that the rest of the American bishops follow suit. It would also be kinda nice if there was an official pronouncement from the USCCB on this one, as well.
I am, however, very disappointed in both LifeSite and Zenit. Guys, if I want propaganda, I'll read my local diocesan fishwrap... 'er, newspaper.

Come on you know Raleigh doesn't have a newspaper any more, just a gay magazine...
One bishop on the right side of a political issue. It's a start. Especially considering that with this bishop, that he comes down on this side of this issue is actually newsworthy.
