Where The Hell Is the REST Of The USCCB!?
10 out of 423?

Slightly over 2% of our *achem* "leadership" has publically denounced the decision by the University of Notre Shame to not only invite The Butcher of Chicago to speak, but to honor him, as well.

In no particular order; Bishop Rhoades of Harrisburg.
Bishop Lynch of St. Petersburg.
Bishop Morlino of Madison.
Archbishop Dolan of Milwaukee/Archbishop of New York designee.
Cardinal DiNardo of Galveston-Houston.
Bishop Aymond of Austin.
Archbishop Nienstedt of St. Paul.
Bishop D'Arcy of South Bend.
Bishop Olmsted of Phoenix.
Cardinal George of Chicago.
I know that Sacred Scriptures tells us of a Remnant Church... but does it have to be that small a remnant?

UPDATE 1 Apr, '09
The four bishops who have most recently criticized the decision are Archbishop John J. Myers of Newark, Reverend Edward J. Slattery of Tulsa, Bishop Kevin Rhoades of Harrisburg, and Bishop R. Walker Nickless of Sioux City.

The bishops who have so far publicly come out in opposition to the Notre Dame invitation are:

1) Bishop John D'Arcy - Fort Wayne-South Bend
2) Cardinal Francis George - Chicago, President, USCCB
3) Archbishop John C. Nienstedt - St. Paul and Minneapolis, Minnesota
4) Bishop Morlino - Madison
5) Bishop Robert Lynch - St. Petersburg
6) Archbishop Timothy Dolan - New York
7) Cardinal Daniel DiNardo - Houston
8) Bishop Thomas Olmsted - Phoenix
9) Bishop Gregory Aymond - Austin
10) Archbishop John J. Myers - Newark
11) Reverend Edward J. Slattery - Tulsa
12) Bishop Kevin Rhoades - Harrisburg
13) Bishop R. Walker Nickless - Sioux City.
And it looks as if one other that didn't make the above article -- Archbishop Eusebius Beltran, Oklahoma City

Funny, but the Kenny Rogers song, 'Coward of the County' keep popping in my head as I continually watch our Church take a beating at the hands of secular society and those within our ranks who would appease them. Our bishops keep watching them, 'Gatlin Boys' take turns at our beloved 'Becky' and haven't lifted a finger to defend Her honor. How do you inspire young men to serve as priests, when the leaders of the Church show that it is not something worth defending through their lack of fortitude.

My Archbishop, Wilton Gregory, is originally from Chicago. He thinks it's wonderful that BHO was elected. You'll never him say anything about this disgrace.

The remnant should be the biblical 1/3 that returned from the Exile in Babylon.

I think it's very generous of you to include Bishop Lynch (Teri Schiavo's bishop) in the list, given the lukewarm tenor of his remarks, and the fact that he included more criticism of the critics than of ND.

Has one of the California cowards spoken? Of course not. Fresno bishop John T. Steinbock and his classmate Roger Mafony are too busy lying to a jury in Fresno about past sex abuse. The Fresno jury is not back yet, but this could end in a "we finally got you guys>"

You may also wish to add the Bishops of Tulsa and Oklahoma City to the list. I just saw this one posted to a forum this morning:

Paul,
I've posted concerning Bp Lynch in the past (http://www.blogger.com/posts.g?security_token=AOuZoY53YWLNrUceqoMRp32LoCHaaWGbXA%3A1238619560083&blogID=18853193&label=&searchType=ALL&txtKeywords=Bishop+Lynch&numPosts=25)

As gutless as he may be overall, at least he said SOMETHING about BHO speaking at UND.

That's more than 97.5% of the USCCB can say.

I'm not counting on Mahony saying anything. Though I wouldn't be surprised if he "showed up" at the obama worship ceremony

You can also add the Bishop of Rockford to the list. I rather like his response.

March 31, 2009

Reverend John I. Jenkins, C.S.C.
President
University of Notre Dame
400 Main Building
Notre Dame, IN 46556

Dear President Jenkins:

I wish to express in my own name and on behalf of the Catholic community of this Diocese, my dismay and outrage at your decision to invite the current President of the United States to address the 2009 graduates of the University of Notre Dame and to receive an honorary degree.

This decision of your flies in the face of the expressed directive of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops in the year 2004, that Catholic institutions not so honor those who profess opposition to the Church’s doctrine on abortion and embryonic stem cell research.

I would ask that you rescind this unfortunate decision and so avoid dishonoring the practicing Catholics of the United States, including those of this Diocese. Failing that, please have the decency to change the name of the University to something like, “The Fighting Irish College” or “Northwestern Indiana Humanist University.” Though promotion of the obscene is not foreign to you, [This refers to Fr. Jenkin’s relationship to the play The V. Monologues] I would point out that it is truly obscene for you to take such decisions as you have done in a university named for our Blessed Lady, whom the Second Vatican Council called the Mother of the Church.

I sign myself

Very truly yours,
The Most Reverend Thomas G. Doran, D.D., J.C.D.
Bishop of Rockford

Boy, am I lucky to have Bishop Morlino, Archbishop Dolan, et al. Used to have Burke here, too. Guess we must need some serious teachin'. ;)

Anyone who reads the document put out in the last election that gave aid and comfort to abortion loving Obamacaths can tell we have very few John the Baptist types as bishops. We do have a lot like the ones who walked away from Christ saying your teachings are too hard. We should start to form on the Catholic Blog sites annual award winners for the John the Baptist awards and on the other side, the Judas bishop awards.

1. Bishop Nickless, the only Bishop in Iowa to have any courage.

2. While a few of these Bishops spoke out before the election, some, like Cardinal George weren't vocal & now have no one but themselves to blame for this mess.
