From The Good Folks Who Want To Run The American Automobile Industry
Thought you'd like to knowWho's driving what?
POLITICO wondered -- what's in the driveways of White House aides? A lot of foreign cars, as it turns out.
A survey of West Executive Drive, where White House staffers park, revealed only five American cars out of 23. The lot was sprinkled with BMWs, Mercedes, Hondas, Toyotas, Saabs, Audis, Volkswagens and a Volvo.
Timothy Geithner owns a 2008 Acura TSX and once owned a 1999 Honda Accord, as well as a 2002 Acura MDX.
Larry Summers [Director of the White House's National Economic Council] owns a 1995 Mazda Protégé.
Peter Orszag [Director of the Office of Management and Budget] owns a 2008 Honda Odyssey and a 2004 Volvo S60.
"Climate czar" Carol Browner has recently said she doesn't own an automobile, although she used to own a 1999 Saab 9-5 SE.
The vice president's economist Jared Bernstein owns a 2005 Honda Odyssey.
Obama's economic adviser Austan Goolsbee owns a 2004 Toyota Highlander.

Well, to be fair, there really is no such thing any more as an "american car." So-called American car companies have all swallowed the twin poison pills of Globalization and free-trade. So when you buy a Ford, GM, or Chrysler, chances are it was assembled in Mexico or somewhere else overseas. And even if it was assembled here, most of the parts were manufactured in Mexico or elsewhere.
And if you buy a "foreign car," it very well may have been assembled here. Or, it may be owned by an American car company. Mazda is owned by Ford. My own wife drives a Protégé. When she bought it, she put money in the pockets of Ford executives.
Loath I am to give the Obama satan dick-sucking administration credit on anything, but when the so-called American car companies have, as I said, swallowed the twin poison pills of globalization and free trade, you can't blame Obama-ites for buying "foreign" cars. The Taurus I drive is basically a foreign car.
Ches,
Yeah, I recall reading that there is no such thing as an American Car anymore. the closest we have is one of the Chevy trucks that's 85%. The remainder is Canadian and Mexican.
But all that aside, I'm sure you see the point I was getting at with this posting.
But they're all Hybrids, right? Right...???
Yes, Vir, I do. Basically, the Obama-ites are all filthy elitists who wouldn't be caught dead in a good, solid GM or Ford, but instead sip their herbal tea while behind the wheel of a Volvo or Saab.
Does that about sum it up? :)
On that note, there's no such thing as an American Beer anymore. All the mega-brewers are own by foreigners.
I never drink them anyway and stick to the micro-brewers: Surly, Sam Adams, Summit, Lakefront, Dark Horse, Bells, Leine's etc etc etc.
