Real Men Wear Black...
Now THIS is how a Priest should act...

Back near my old stomping grounds, the Diocese of Rockville Centre is at it again, suppressing a good priest trying to do what is best...

From the Modern Priest blog: (my comments in blue)

In a disturbing sequence of events, a pastor on the South Shore of Long Island who attempted to correct a spate of sacriligious abuses of consecrated Hosts by temporarily banning the practice of Communion in the hand in his parish, has apparently been ordered by the DRVC hierarchy to reverse his decision. In last Sunday's bulletin, the courageous pastor issued an urgent directive temporarily forbidding Communion in the Hand in his parish in order to halt a recent string of cases involving the desecration of the Blessed Sacrament:

As we begin the journey of Holy Week, I ask for your deep reflection on the matter of the desecration of the Holy Eucharist. More cases were reported to me of students leaving the church with the Blessed Sacrament in hand. Fortunately, these hosts were retrieved. This week one of our teachers found a host in a hymnal. This is too serious a situation to continue to be just cautious. It is time for action, at least for a few months. Please read this Notice to Parishioners:IMPORTANT NOTICE TO PARISHIONERSDue to the continued reports and discovery of the Consecrated Hosts in the pages of hymnals and attempts to leave with the Blessed Sacrament in hand or in pocket, EVERYONE MUST RECEIVE COMMUNION ON THE TONGUE. COMMUNION IN THE HAND IS FORBIDDEN UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. ~~think I have a new hero~~

...to good to be true right? You bet...

Much to the dismay of Catholics around the diocese, however, this week's bulletin reports that the good pastor has been instructed to remove his temporary ban on Communion in the Hand. ~~Now there's a shocker!!!~~

The pastor's excellent comment:
As you know, we have resumed distributing Holy Communion in the Hand. Sr. Sheila Brown in the Office of Worship sent the following reflection [?] issued by the Federation of Diocesan Liturgical Commissions [?] in 2003. I do not regret the action I took in response to what we agreed were and are terrible abuses. I pray that the attention brought to the matter of abuse of the Consecrated Host will heighten everyone’s awareness and show the need for continual education on the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist.

Sr. Browne's standard-issue instructions on Communion in the Hand can be accessed here. if you have the stomach for that kind of thing. ~~"Communion in the hand can deepen our faith in the dignity of every Christian as a member of the body of Christ, including our own personal dignity."...yeah, I'll have to remember that the next time I see Joey High School strolling back from the Altar, picking a wedgie from the seat of his pants and popping our Lord in his mouth like a Tic-Tac. Thanks clearing that up for me Sister.~~

This is a disgraceful humiliation of a fine pastor who has endeavored for many months to encourage in his parishioners a love and devotion for the Blessed Sacrament as can be seen in his letters week after week in the parish bulletin. He recently went to great effort to move the tabernacle to the sanctuary from a side altar and replaced the main altar with a splendid Italian marble altar. Photos of the spectacular restoration can be seen here as you scroll down to the bottom of the page.

So there you have it. This priest should be set as an example, yet he gets set up for embarrassment at the hands of Sister 'Nonsubstantiation'.

...at least they are able to maintain their sense of humor up there. As displayed in this video chronicling these events...

I will offer my Rosary tomorrow for this loyal priest and the remaining faithful on Long Island. I will also pray for the conversion of those who foster this sin.

Total bullshit. Last time I checked, the divinely instituted Hierarchy of priest-bishop-archbishop-cardinal-Pope did not include some bureaucratic body called the "Federation of Diocesan Liturgical Commissions," and certainly not nuns.

Much as I feel for this poor priest, he should have told that nun to shove it, and that his ban would remain in effect until he heard from the bishop himself on it.

What are the odds that this nun is non-habit-wearing and, shall we say, a bit butch?

Wow... that is just ridiculous. Good for him for TRYING to do the right thing... figures the higher-ups would crush the spirits of the righteous.

This guy rocks!

Well, he doesn't have to listen to the Archdiocese this is within his authority as a priest.

GIRM: (Cant' remember the paragraph): If there's a risk of profanation, Communion in the Hand is NOT to be given. (Also in RS)

I don't know what it will take in this world for Priests who are faithful to the Church and to God, but I am don't know if I am going to be able to wait around for it.

Someone has to put this #)($*@#) non-practicing Catholic nun in her place. I would love to see some pantsuit clad priestess wanna be tell my Pastor what to do.

Scent of a Woman, "If I was as young as I once was I would take a FLAMETHROWER to this place"

are the words that come to mind.

To read these comments makes me what to throw up. You people are a disgrace to the catholic community by far. Do you people know this nun personally? If this priest told you to jump off a cliff would you. Please tell me what have you learned from the bible, nothing for you to be judging someone that you do not know and obviously will not find the correct picture or online info for. Rockville Centre is located on the East Coast idiots. And yes I know Sister and she is from butch. Even after reading all of this she would still treat you people with respect and love.

She is human and you people should be ashamed to call yourselves followers of God to agree and write all this crap!!!

My last words to you all is God Bless!!!

Sister Shelia Brown, you know my saying NO ONE CAN STEAL YOUR SUNSHINE!!!

After reading all the above comments I must say you people have not been reading your bible to be judging someone you do not know. She is far from some butch nun! Should I call the person who critized her a fag priest! No because God pass judgement on all. Not you people.

She would still greet all of you with respect and love. She will say a prayer that you people find the true meaning of god.

I must say Sister you are human but as you may know my words " NO ONE CAN STEAL YOUR SUNSHINE!!!

Sure sister no one can steal your sunshine casue God gave it to us for free. The same cant be said about those who sell their souls for trifles.
Maybe you need to post it a few more times Dee.

Glad you read it twice and see that you do not understand what sunshine means! Its not the actually sun. And sorry but I am not a sister just was raised in the church and know only GOD can judge!

Alright Dee, obviously your OCD medication isn't kicking in. Keep posting multiple times... it's very becoming.

But anyhow, I guess that whole "sunshine" thing made people think of the sun. Or maybe it's just your Hallmark Greeting Card theology.

But speaking of theology, who in the world taught you that judging and discerment were the same? Sorry hon, I'm going to have to pass on your relativistic and situational morality.

You're obviously part of the problem.

But all that aside, I hope you've had fun with your posts. They're your last.

What Father did = right

Everyone bad talking a liberal nun = expected

If you want to reach out to people as God reaches out to everyone, stop wasting your time bad talking nuns and do something about liturgical abuses. And do it in a way that would actually change something. Not in a way that an orthodox Catholic like myself would look at and vomit because the lack of charity.

By the way, calling someone a lesbian is really not going to do anything... it pushes people away from the Truth.

Regarding the actual topic of discussion, I am so proud of that priest trying to stop people from disrespecting our Lord!! I will be praying for him.
