Cardinal Mahony bans Holocaust-denier from L.A. archdiocese
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Cardinal Roger Mahony on Tuesday took the unusual step of banning Holocaust-denying British Bishop Richard Williamson from any Roman Catholic church, school or other facility in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. (In case anyone was interested in factual information, Bp Williamson never denied the Holocaust. He did, however, question the numbers. But never let facts get in the way of Catholic-bashing. "Holocaust deniers like Williamson will find no sympathetic ear or place of refuge in the Catholic Church, of which he is not — and may never become — a member," (Kinda fast and loose with the rules, 'eh, Rog? You move quicker than one of your Liturgical Go-Go Dancers at this years wREC) said a commentary signed jointly by Mahony, head of the nation's largest archdiocese, and two officials of the American Jewish Committee.
"The cardinal wishes to send a clear signal to the Jewish community that Williamson is not a member or even welcome in the Catholic Church until he renounces his views," said Tod Tamberg, spokesman for the archdiocese. (Hey Rog, could you please tell me what specific sin Bp Williamson has committed that will send his soul to eternal hellfire? And while you're at it, how about a clear signal to the Catholic community? Even a little adherence to just the basics of Catholicism once in awhile would be nice.)

Wow. Apparently he doesn't know what an archbishop is (i.e., a member - at least at one point - of the Catholic Church).
Surprising, considering his job title... Not surprising, given his actions.
He's just afraid Williamson might let someone kneel to receive communion.

Please - to say that only 300,000 Jews died at the hands of the Nazis, when the death toll was twenty times that, is to deny the Holocaust. It's to turn an international genocide into a large but localized massacre. He also denied that there were ever gas chambers. Any suggestions as to how St Edith Stein might have met her end?
That somebody illicitly ordained by one mad old fascist turns out to be another mad old fascist is hardly a surprise, but don't try to make him out some sort of hero just because the liberals you dislike dislike him.

First off, I don't recall ever agreeing with Bp Williamson, so spare me the girlish dramatics.
Secondly, since when did 300K dead equates to a denial? Please.
By the way, where does the figure of six million come from? If you did your homework, you's know that from the Nuremberg Trials to many decades after, the numbers fluxuated from 2.5 - 3.5 million killed. Until someone said that "as many as 6 million" could have been killed. Then that number became etched in stone, and looked upon as "fact".
I also find it interesting that you refer to Abp Lefevbre as a "mad old fascist", especially in light of the fact that his own father died in a Nazi Death Camp. (

Oh BTW, Cardinal Castrillon de Hoyos, President of the Ecclesia Dei Commission, has affirmed that the SSPX are NOT schismatic. "Not schismatic" means they are (Roman) Catholic. You don't have to like the SSPx or agree with them, but no one--not even the Red Guru--can call them schismatic or "not-Catholic" and be anything other than a liar (and a fool).
Does anyone else find it a bit ironic that Cardinal Mahony vows that Holocaust deniers "will find no place of refuge in the Catholic Church," yet he....
1)Has said almost NOTHING to the pro-choice infant holocaust initiators?
2)Has often opened his arms (Given a place of refuge to) to members of the "Rainbow Sash" squad, a group of dissident homosexuals that not only attack the Church with protests but demand that the Church change it's doctrine?
People who support the murder of hundreds and thousands of infants a day....A-okay in LA
People who partake in and openly support sinful, lustful actions and want to publicly show their support of and participation in such actions....A-okay in LA
Roman Catholic clergy that have simply questioned a number (A number that, like Vir Speluncae Catholicus pointed out, isn't even close to the official number given at the Nuremburg Trials) of people killed in an event....No home for you in LA

Technically, Mahony does have the right to do what he did. That aside, my suspicions are that he is hiding behind what Williamson said as a cover for the real reaons he doesn't want Williamson.

Yes, Williamson is Catholic, Mahony is off base. But what else is new about Mahony? He has been off base for a very long time.Remember when Mother Angelica took him on, & rightly so, for what he said about the Eucharist?
Like I said, I suspect that there is something more behind this. & it has to do with what Mahony said recently about the liturgy (TLM) & his million & 1 other heresies, such as the ones Thomas L pointed out, that he has promoted out there in LaLa land.
It is my sincere belief that while Mahony thinks he will go down as a great leader who lead the Church out of the dark ages, the reality is different. My opinion is that, if even remembered, Mahony will be seen on a level with other heretical Bishops like Arius & Pelagius. Of course, with Mahony's ego, he may see that as a good thing.
