Let me see if I can figure this all out. However, being a simple convert, my knowledge of Catholic doctrine and Church history is rather weak…but I’ll try:
Bishop Richard Williamson (SSPX) made some very foolish remarks last November while being interviewed regarding the seminary he was in charge of in Argentina. Those comments were his personal opinions on a historical event, i.e., the Jewish holocaust during the Second World War. (Of course, this did not include the other 6 million killed by the Third Reich who were not Jewish at all, the 20 million killed by Stalin, the millions killed by Mao and Pol Pot, or the almost 50 million children murdered by Americans since 1973…but who’s counting?)
Alright, back to the story.
Now those comments, that had absolutely NOTHING to do with the Catholic Faith what so ever, none the less caused massive embarrassment to the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX), the Holy Father and to the entire Roman Catholic Traditionalist Movement that has been fighting to restore the Faith since 1965 (the year Vatican II ended).
Since then, Bishop Williamson has been ‘silenced’ by his superior, Bishop Felley (except for the attached apology), has been removed as the head of the SSPX seminary in Argentina, and has been expelled from Argentina. (By the way, the same country that was very pro-German during WWII, hide hundreds of wanted German war criminals following the war, and…almost forgot…ran a campaign during much of the 1970s into the 1980s where their military arrested, tortured and killed thousands of their own people…but that’s not important.) Bishop Williamson is now hold-up in London, facing possible prosecution in Germany due to their “Thought Police” laws.
Now he has issued this apology to the world. Will it suffice? Of course not! The “evil” Traditionalists can never be forgiven for questioning the modernization of the Church and the “New Springtime” following Vatican II. To do so might mean that thousands of clergy, laity and theologians have been living a disastrous lie all these years….and you know we can’t have that. So there you go. Even if the Holy Father completes an agreement with the SSPX, giving them their own Apostolic Administration (keeping them away from the Novus Ordo bishops, i.e., "wolves in sheep’s clothing"), the howls from the left, and the conservative “Scott Hahn” style Catholics will be overwhelming!
But just to get this all straight, will Rome, and the world for that matter, require a full apology from the following folks?
1. Cardinal Mahony for teaching heresy when it comes to the Eucharist, allowing every possible lunatic liturgical abuse possible in his archdiocese, and for protecting predatory homosexual priests? Of course not!
2. Retired Archbishop Rembert Weakland for running his archdiocese into the ground and paying off his homosexual boyfriend with diocesan funds? Of course not!
3. Cardinal Kasper, the Holy Father’s right hand man for Ecumenism, for stating that the Old Covenant is still valid for our Jewish brothers, thereby negating Christ’s sacrifice on the Cross? Of course not!
4. The Archbishop of Milan, Italy, for completely refusing to obey the Holy Father’s Motu Proprio freeing the “Mass of the Ages?” Of course not!
5. Cardinal Law, who brought such dishonor to our faith, now hides like a little girl inside Rome, protected by the Vatican. Has he been asked to apologize to the world, and/or excommunicated? Of course not!
6. Every Roman Catholic bishop who has either ensured homosexual men are ordained to the priesthood, and/or shuttled them from parish to parish, knowing that they have left a trail of despair behind them? Will apologies be required of them, or will they face excommunication? Of course not!
The only true evil obviously comes from those men who simply believe what the Church has taught for 2,000 years. They are the true enemy after all…aren’t they?

DECLARATION
The Holy Father and my Superior, Bishop Bernard Fellay, have requested that I reconsider the remarks I made on Swedish television four months ago, because their consequences have been so heavy.
Observing these consequences I can truthfully say that I regret having made such remarks, and that if I had known beforehand the full harm and hurt to which they would give rise, especially to the Church, but also to survivors and relatives of victims of injustice under the Third Reich, I would not have made them.
On Swedish television I gave only the opinion (..."I believe"..."I believe"...) of a non-historian, an opinion formed 20 years ago on the basis of evidence then available and rarely expressed in public since. However, the events of recent weeks and the advice of senior members of the Society of St. Pius X have persuaded me of my responsibility for much distress caused. To all souls that took honest scandal from what I said before God I apologise.
As the Holy Father has said, every act of injust violence against one man hurts all mankind.

This whole incident has gotten way more airtime than it deserves. No doubt, Williamson is a loon (actually I spent some "quality time" in the SSPX and pretty much all the bishops and priests are loons.)
To be fair Williamson never denied the holocaust - he questioned the numbers killed and doubted the existence of the gas chambers.
Somehow or another this got made into some sort of international incident, as though anyone should care what this guy says.
Meantime, Mahony is, as we speak, undermining the faith with the abomination he holds in LA and "Catholic" politicians waltz up to the communion rail.
It is hard to be Catholic right now but remember - the Holy Spirit will not be defeated.

Swing and a miss. Sorry buddy but you give the Traditionalist movement too much credit. The vast majority of catholics I talk to have never even heard of SSPX or the traditionalist movement. They prefer to just go to church on sundays and holy days and do what the priest tells them. They have little to know idea about the battles over changes in the past decades and frankly don't care.
What has people in an uproar is that someone could have their facts wrong on something society holds as the most henious event in modern times. That he won't say he was wrong about the facts (he said he'd look into it) is what they won't forgive. Bringing in the other wrong doers is unhelpful at this point, though there is no doubt that they have done wrong.
Either way this primarily a media circus because the modern world loves to bash the Church.
I'm not sure how many times this guy has to apologize..(heck, i'm of the opinion that he need not apologize, since he a. did NOT deny the holocaust and b. even though there's credible evidence pointing to millions of Jews being killed, the numbers aren't absolute)
It's a good thing my parish out in LA is ran by the Carmelites...I escape Liturgical Abuse for the most part. I can name all the orthodox parishes in LA with my hands.
I hate to say this, but the Bishop has not truly apologized, nor has he corrected his wrong impression of the Holocaust. There has been great damage to the reputation of Catholicism here, at a time when frankly, we don't need more. I realize that Williamson does not speak for the Church, but when a high ranking official speaks in such a way, it does effect the way people see the authority of the Church.
I AM proud of our Pope for demanding this Bishop apologizes and declare his knowledge of the Holocaust false. Bishop Williamson NEEDS to say he was wrong and repudiate his hopefully former views.
Folks, it is proven fact that it was not 6 million. Probably not 300,000, but it is somewhere in between. That fact comes to us from Two well qualified Jewish historians from a university in Jerusalem. I have commented on this a couple of times below so will not go through the info again, but it was well covered back in 1983 by the NY Times and in fact the plaques at Auswichitz were changed with the number droping by 2.5 million Jews as a result of their efforts. However, the 6 million number was left alone even though it should have been reduced to 3.5 by this one camp alone. As to the gas chambers, what he said was an expert from America had viewed the gas chambers and because of the doors used doubted they would have worked effectively. The two Jewish scholars also found this to be true and that fact was part of their reduction along with a lot of other work.
But 6 million is now chisled in stone and sacred. So if you say anything that challenges this creed, you will be attacked.
I had a Jewish uncle and I have two cousins who, though practising Catholics, did in fact have a Jewish father. I don't tolerate anti-Semitism. One of my best and closest and dearest friends is Jewish. I have utter hatred and contempt for trash like the faux-archbishop Rickie, who deny the holacaust. I've seen the horror of Dachau, having spend a day there many years ago! Pure and simple, Ricky's nothing more than a complete pious phony fraud!
I hope he's extradited from the UK to Germany, and tried as a Holacaust denier. I'll laugh when I see his sorry a$$ in jail in Germany. It can't come soon enouth for me!!!
Bam,
As I've already pointed out, Bishop Williamson is not a so-called "Holocaust Denier". (Please see http://catholic-caveman.blogspot.com/2009/01/pope-bishop-forgotten-five-million-and.html)
Also, he isn't a "faux-bishop" as you say. He is a validly consecrated Bishop of the Catholic Church, albeit in an irregular status. If you should happen to have a problem with that, take it up with His Hoiliness, Pope Benedict.
Perhaps before you get so wound up in seeing someone's "sorry a$$" in jail... you just might want to get your facts straight.
