A Shared Sacrifice?
Not from what I've seen

I recently read that Price Harry is doing quite nicely at the British version of West Point, Sandhurst. The lad even said publicly; "There's no way I'm going to put myself through Sandhurst and then sit on my arse back home while my boys are out fighting for their country". That boy's going to be one fine leader of men.

That got me thinking... I voted for President Bush. I support most of his policies. I remember right after the 9-11 attacks, the Prez said that the upcoming war would have to be a "shared sacrifice". I took his word for it that it would be just that... shared.

Let me back up some. Chuck Robb married LBJ's daughter during the Viet-Nam War. As a young Marine Officer, Robb could have nailed a cushy Pentagon job. But he didn't. He went back to 'Nam to be with his men.

Franklin Roosevelt made sure his sons joined up. They all served in combat as well. And his son, James, was the Commanding Officer for the 4th Marine Raider Battalion (the forerunner of today's Force Recon Bn. Not exactly a "safe" job).

Even a young Princess Elizabeth joined the British Army (Womens Auxiliary Territorial Service) and served as an Officer. Hmmm... the gal who KNOWS that she'll one day be the Queen of the entire British Empire actually joined up to be a mechanic and truck driver? Interesting.

OK, the history lesson is over. Now I want to know.... where the hell are the Bush kids?

If Prince Harry, the third in line to the British Throne will join the British Army's 1st Mechanized Brigade, which will be deployed to Basra in May 2007, then why can't either of the Bush daughters join up? It's a fair question. Queen Elizabeth did. Why can't the Bush girls?

While I'm at it... why aren't either of Jeb's sons, George P. and Jeb, Jr. in uniform? Why can't I ask these hard questions? After all, this is suppose to be a "shared sacrifice", right?

I'll be up front. I could give a Tinker's Damn less what Branch you're in or what job you do. Be you Active Duty, Reserves or National Guard... be you a Marine Gun Slinger, Air Force Intell bubba, Army MP, Navy Bos'uns Mate, Army Reserve Lawyer (like Justice Alito). Be you Federal, State or Local Law Enforcement... whatever, I don't care. You served, discussion over.

Just don't tell me that this is OUR fight, but don't get personally involved. Wow, that sounds a lot like Faith And Works, doesn't it?

Well what exactly are you views on women in the millitary? Is it really proper to demand the Bush daughters enlist? Bush SONS if there were any would be another matter but I think its been proven time and time again that co-ed isn't the best way to go into combat. That said you guys would know a million times more about the topic than I do!

Even then though it is a free will issue. Bush can't make his kids enlist.

Good for Prince William though, England would do well to have a strong king with some battle experience under his belt.

I never posted that the Bush girls should be sent into combat. Hell... no one is more ANTI-chicks in combat than I! My point is, is that they should serve. Be it the Texas Air National Guard or whatever. After all, it was their daddy that made the comment about "shared sacrifice".

And you're right... no one can make these kids join. But what a wonderful example that would be for todays youth. Oh well, I guess the Bush kids are use to a life of privilege and security... as long as someone else is providing it for them.
