Catholic Holy Days As Government Holidays?
The U.S. Territory of Guam sets the pace
Being a proud member of the Chamorro race, on my mother's side, I just wanted to brag a bit concerning some of the Official Territorial Holidays observed by the Government of Guam.

Sure, we all expect The Fourth of July and Veterans Day... but All Souls Day, Good Friday... even the official recognition of Easter? But the one I particulary enjoy is the government holiday for the Patronness of Guam - The Blessed Mother, Our Lady of Camarin. Celebrated on Dec 8th. Hmmm... same exact date as what else?
Just a side note.... years ago when legalizing abortion was being debated in the Territorial Legislature, the Archbishop of Agana, Guam went before the legislature and wagged his finger and said "I know each and every one of you. I tell you this, whoever votes in favor of abortion will be excommunicated".
The result? The 1990 "Guam Abortion Law" said that the "life of every human being begins at conception, and that unborn children have protectable interests in life, health, and well-being."
The law made it a felony to perform an abortion. And of course, this was overturned by SCOTUS as unconstitutional. With that, I give the SCOTUS the traditional greeting of Guam "Si Yu'us Ma'ase"... which translates literally to "May God have mercy on you".

Hurrah for Guam! Maybe when we have 5 Catholics on SCOTUS they can give that law another shot! I've always thought that Holy Days of Obligation should be holidays in the US, heck I might even skip classes tomrow in honor of the Feast of the Annunciation! Just kidding, can't aford to miss, class or Mass!
It would be nice to have at least one Catholic on the supreme court.
Good for Guam, though. It's outstanding to see a government somewhere making Catholic holy days governmental holidays. Bravo!

Do I detect just a hint of Sarcasm? Clarence Thomas and Antoin Scalia are both devout Catholics, Thomas is a convert and Scalia has a large family including one son who is a priest. It is preety much a given that both these men will overturn Roe v. Wade. Both men go to daily Mass. Alito, if he gets on is also Pro-life, not only that he frequents a Church that does the Tridentine Mass, surely that will apease you sir? Justice Kenndy is a bit fickle but pray that he comes around. As for Roberts its to early to tell much about him but I have heard him described as a devout Catholic and in his cirlce of friends there are many well known conservative priests, just no to well known that I can list there here. As far as I know Roberts, Thomas, Alito, and Scalia all attend both Tridentine and Novos Ordo Masses but one more often than the other.
