No Saddam To al-Qaeda Connection?
Follow the bouncing head...
After watching Saddam's lawyers storm out of court this morning, it got me thinking. Just why could it be that his lawyers are doing everything in their power to make his trial look like a three ring circus? Simple... at a maximum, cause enough hate and discontent, then they can legitimatly claim that he'll never get a fair trial and he will eventually be set free. At a minimum, make the trial look like enough of a joke to the Islamic World (like they give a damn what the rest of the world thinks) and the Islamic World will hate us even more then they already do.
And while I'm at it, let's be honest... many of them already hated our guts and wanted us all dead way before 9-11. Something about total Islamic domination of the world. Ring a bell?
But anyways... total disruption of this trail, no matter the outcome, benifits who the most? The al-Qaeda terrorists, period.
I doubt if al-Qaeda would cry puddles if the odd Saddam lawyer here and there were offered up as the sacrificial lamb. Wait, haven't two died already? And al-Qaeda had nothing to do with the death of those two lawyers, right? Suuuure.
If al-Qaeda are the hard core Islamic purists that they claim they are, then why would they give a hoot in hell about Saddam Hussein anyhow? As far as they should be concerned, he's nothing but a heretic, a secularist, scum... if he dies, oh well - inshallah - shit happens.
But that's not what's happening. The boys from al-Qaeda want to help out their good goomba Saddam in the worst way. Why? He's been part of their little game for years, that's why.

Saddam Hussein may very well be a miserable human being who tortures people, uses bad words, has a few wives and kicks puppies and kittens. We do know, with a reasonable degree of certainty, that the man is a heretic, although his adherence to the Mohammedan religion is about as apparently sincere as that of most Novus Ordo Catholics.
However -- and this is a big "however" -- he does have a point: the trial is bullshit. I think he used the word "illegitimate".
All neo-Conservative spin aside, "we" decided -- to paraphrase Pat Buchanan -- to invade and occupy a country of 25 million people that did not attack us, did not threaten us, and did not want war with us -- in order to strip it of weapons we now admit it did not have.
This, at a minimum, calls into question the very justifications for the war.
I also find it coincidental (maybe that's not the best word, but it will have to do) that Iraq houses the largest Christian minority (Chaldean) in the Middle East. The parallel between the invasion of Iraq and the atomic bombing of Nagasaki is... I dont even know if there is a word for it.
Anyhow, I'm willing to take it for granted that what is left of the independent Iraqi nation -- to include Mr. Hussein -- is doing its level best to disrupt the trial. On the other hand, I find it difficult to come up with a reason for why they shouldnt. Would we, in similar circumstances, do any differently? Would we resist and expect our captured leaders to resist to the best of their abilities? Or would we simply capitulate and resign ourselves to our fate?
The difference, that most people who defend the war will point out, is that somehow, the US is morally superior to Iraq. Nevermind that we claimed "national unity" (as defined by the northeastern, financial and industrial elite) as the reason for our "Civil War" or that we exterminated entire tribes of American Indians during our Manifest Destiny period. Those were good causes. I guess.
My assessment of the situation is that Saddam Hussein is guilty of being a powerful man who doesnt particularly care for Israel. In today's world, that is an unforgivable crime.
Kitten kickings, bad language, The Novus Ordo, The War Between The States, Hiroshima, and lastly, Israeli conspiracy theories aside... I didn't see a whole lot concerning the obvious that I pointed out. Specifically, that al-Qaeda is just tickled pink to see disruptions of any kind in the Hussein trial. I wonder why. A loose confederation of al-Qaeda and other nations/organizations that would just love to see America disintergrate? And I won't even get into how Hussein has always looked upon himself as a modern day Nebechanezzar.
But that's a topic for a different day.
By the way, the Chaldeans aren't the largest Christian minority in the Middle East (aprox. 650,000). The Maronite Catholics of Lebanon stand at aprox 1.1 million. And the Copts of Egypt (both Catholic and Orthodox) number roughly 9 million.
It seems the trend now-a-days, if you don't have any truth as the foundation of your arguement, just revert to histrionic antics and play the victim.

"Specifically, that al-Qaeda is just tickled pink to see disruptions of any kind in the Hussein trial."
I think that is taken for granted. Why wouldnt they be tickled?
Well, to confess my ignorance, I'm not too sure that I understand what inshallah means. I assume it means "global jihad"? If so, I think that most true Moslems would prefer to establish a Mohammedan world empire. Just as, I would go so far as to say, Catholics would prefer to live in a Catholic world.
The difference, however, is that Catholics are right, and I'm not saying that to be clever or snide (sp?).
As to the matter of whether or not Saddam Hussein should be set free, are you saying that his conviction is a foregone conclusion? If so, why bother with a trial?
Inshallah means "If it's the Will of God".... as in; "why bother taking any precautions/preventative measures/forethought at all? If it's The Will of God, then what will happen will happen, regardless of what I do". That may explain why moslems aren't exactly top notch when it comes to things like sanitation, personal hygene, well aimed shots, etc.
As far as a foregone conclusion, I would say no more foregone than... ohhhh, richard davis http://catholic-caveman.blogspot.com/2005/11/usccb-wants-this-human-garbage-to-live.html#links
