The Black Death, The Czars, The Soviets, The Nazis... Now The SSPX!!!
How much more must Poland endure??!! *sniffle, whimper*
Poor Poland. How much must she endure? Oh, sorry... I forgot to add on the list of miseries, The New Mass. It turns out that both the Polish and Ukrainian bishops are plenty P.O.'d about the SSPX making inroads in these two specific nations.
Things are so bad in the Ukraine that the newly installed Greek Catholic Archbishop of Lviv in neighboring Ukraine, Igor Vozniak, joined parish groups in Janov last weekend for a prayer march against the so-called "Lefebvrists", who have run a seminary and convent in the area, as well as several parishes. http://thetablet.co.uk/cgi-bin/register.cgi/citw-#Europe
Well, well. How soon we forget that The leader of the Eastern-rite Ukrainian Catholic Church, Lubomyr Cardinal Husar has called for the creation of a single Eastern Church in that country, joining the Catholic and Orthodox under a single patriarch. http://cwnews.com/news/viewstory.cfm?recnum=39887
So WHO is in schism here again?? Refresh my memory, please. By the way, Cardinal Castrillon-Hoyos of the Ecclesia Dei Commission has already officially stated that the SSPX isn't in "formal schism", yet Cardinal Husar is publicly calling for schism of the Ukrainian Rite, and no one even says "boo"!
To the good bishops in Poland and Ukraine... do you want to know why Catholics are flocking to the Traditional Mass as celebrated by the SSPX? Simple. They want to be Catholic. You know, even the Polish National News Service, KAI, carried a lengthy and sympathetic assessment of the movement on Monday to mark the centenary of the birth of Archbishop Lefebvre. It said the archbishop had been “one of the most controversial twentieth-century Catholic Church figures”, but should also be remembered for his “great role” in highlighting “the importance of tradition” in the Church. Wow. Even the secular media in Poland gets it. Too bad the bishops don't.
Oh, and one other thing... I just can't help but wonder if any of these bishops have "allowed" any public celebrations of the Latin Mass. Hmmm.....

Kevin, my friend, I think you've got it:
"...do you want to know why Catholics are flocking to the Traditional Mass as celebrated by the SSPX? Simple. They want to be Catholic."
Well done.
Geoff
P.S. I'm particularly encouraged by the Ukranians adhering to traditional Catholicism. The Ukraine is one of those "border states" between the (nominally) Catholic West and the schismatic Orthodox of the East. I hope they continue on the path of tradition.
Geoff, my friend, I've always had it! ;-)
Like I've said all along, this brief flirtation with protestantism will die out. We don't need to baptize the converted, we need to convert the baptized. Slowly but surely....
Thx for the kudos!
