KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT!!
Apologetics 101, second session
Like we've discussed before, most Catholics do a spectacularly lousy job of Defending The Faith. Here's something you can print right off that has the basics for referring to Sacred Scripture when evangelizing The One True Faith to non-believers. Personally, I carry my copy of this around with me folded up in my D.R. Bible. You'd be suprised how handy this comes in!http://www.catholicculture.org/docs/doc_view.cfm?recnum=206
Just a couple of quick examples...
Ever get stumped whenever Fundies spaz out and scream "It says in the Bible 'call no man father', and you Catholics do it all the time! You're going against the Bible itself!". Just whip out your handy-dandy cheat sheet and show 'em -- "hey, goomba... right here: Lk 16:24; Rom 4; 1 Cor 4:14-15; Acts 7:2; 1 Thess 2:11; 1 Jn 2:13-14. Need I say more?"
Or one of my personal favorites, Mary was never a perpetual virgin, and Jesus had many brothers. This one is SOOOOO easy to dissect. There are many Biblical references, but I'll just point to my favorite; Acts 1:12-15 ... Jesus' "brothers" number about 120. That is a lot of "brothers". And if worse comes to worse, just ask 'em to find anywhere in the Bible where another person, besides Jesus Himself, is identified as a "child of Mary". They won't, because no one else is.
Happy dissecting!
