Divagirl Disagrees with the Church
Picks Rep. Kennedy over Bishop Tobin

Channel 10, a TV station in Providence, Rhode Island is conducting a survey over Bishop Tobin’s remark to his errant sheep, Congressman Patrick Kennedy, that he was “less Catholic” because of his political beliefs.

(If you want to cast a vote, copy and paste the following in your address bar: http://www2.turnto10.com/jar/News/local/article/question_bishop_tobin_vs._sen._patrick_kennedy/26553/#comment_form )

Anyway, some bimbo who calls herself “divagirl” (that could be a hint about the writer, right there!) chose to also post a comment on the poll which read in its entirety:

I was raised catholic. I don’t agree with all the teaching of the church. having two children without the aid of marriage. I continue to attend services. Does this make me less catholic. I believe what I believe as I think most catholic do. The church needs to keep an open mind.

Yet another example of what 40 years of post-Vatican II catechesis has brought the Church. Anyone who said something like that before 1968 would have 1) said it in a whisper confidentially to some friend or to a spiritual advisor, and 2) known they were on the precipice of sin if not already falling into the abyss.

In the event divagirl ever Googles her name and wonders why she’s getting a hit on The Lair of the Catholic Caveman, I will respond to her posting.

I was raised catholic. Lucky you. Unfortunately, that either didn’t not include any decent training in the beliefs of the Church and forming your conscience or you slept through catechism class (if you even went).

I don’t agree with all the teaching of the church. Agreement is not part of the equation, although it helps. No, divagirl, what the God’s Church expects in spite of your disagreement is obedience. Many people past and present have had doubts about the Faith and St. Augustine says that is normal. The question is what are you doing to remove those doubts and get your mind in line with Church teaching.

having two children without the aid of marriage. All of have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. I pray you have you made a good confession, especially if you are receiving Holy Communion.

I continue to attend services. That’s good. Maybe some priest will preach a homily that actually sparks your brain and/or touches your heart to amend your life and conscience. Hopefully, your out-of-wedlock children are with you.

Does this make me less catholic. Not necessarily, but your next remark would seem to make it so.

I believe what I believe,... That’s only good for your beliefs that happen to be the beliefs of the One True Church. Any other beliefs are wrong.

...as I think most catholic do. No, in the totality of the universal Church, I would say you and the others are in the minority, although it is unfortunate there are as many of you as there are.

The church needs to keep an open mind. No, sweetie, that’s where you are 100% wrong. The Church was founded by the Son of God and continues to be inspired by His Holy Spirit. It cannot teach error. Minds are intended to be “open” only until they discover the Truth and then they should snap shut like a steel trap. Us Cavemen will pray that you find your way out of the fog.

Here's a question for divagirl, and the rest of Catholic dissenters:

If the Catholic Church has to keep an "open mind", why don't YOU keep an open mind to the fact the Catholic Church may actually, you know, KNOW what she's teaching?

She wrote: "I was raised catholic." Apparently somebody didn't do their job because otherwise she would know the rest which Altar Boy had to point out.

Last I looked when I voted an hr ago, 62% were in agreement with Bishop Tobin.

I suspect that if you could break it down most of those who disagree are "Catholics" like Divagirl. & that quite a few none Catholics agree with Bishop Tobin than disagree.

Yet another stellar example of the Spirit of Vatican II.

"...Church expects in spite of your disagreement is obedience."

Exactly! I may not agree with or even understand everything, but I take it on faith that Jesus Christ Himself established the Church and gave it and the Pope the authority on all matters of faith and morality. Therefore, I obey. End of story.

One thing I can't stand is when dissenters claim that "most Catholics" believe as they do. I think they say this to feel OK about their dissent and justify it...which, of course, implies that on some level they realize they're wrong and committing a sin.

Oh, and divagirl...be careful that your mind isn't so open your brains fall out!

"...having two children without the aid of marriage..."

But more then likely with the aid of other people's hard-earned money via taxes, something you probably believe you're "entitled" to by default of your sin of sex outside of marriage which has led you to be a single mother. Because these days you are not only excused from our sins by "open minded" individuals, but everyone else is forced to pay for the upkeep of your bastard children while you claim to be "independent" and not needing the "aid of marriage."

Uh huh. Snap out of your delusion, sista. You've swapped the "aid of marriage" for the aid of the Sugar Daddy Government.

I hate the phrase "I was raised Catholic" and then the writer tries to paint a rosy picture of their obvious dissent from the Church. You might have been raised Catholic but you're not now if you dissent and openly either refuse to inform your conscience or refuse to be obedient... hate to break it to ya honey... you ain't Catholic so don't piss in the pool and call it chlorine.
