Bigger Fish to Fry
Or seals to club, or Baptists to thump over the head, or...
You know, faithful Cave-dwellers, much has been said lately on this blog about baseball. Lots of sarcasm flying everywhere, sides taken and defended... Usual Cave activity.
However, there are bigger causes to be uniting around. One cause in particular, I believe, could bring all of us together and make us put aside our differences. Sort of an ecumenical activity, you might say.
We must bring our friend Vir Speluncae Catholicus back into the fold. Lately he's been running out of Mass and zooming away like some Protestant trying to get to the Golden Corral buffet FIRST FIRST FIRST. He has been depriving us of his sweet demeanor and the kind words he has to say about everyone, and we miss him so dearly!
Perhaps there's a Padres game on, I don't know, I think baseball is stupid too (but I'm a girl, so that's my excuse), maybe he's got maintenance to do at home (I hear it's hard to hang pictures on the inside of a cave), or it's just possible that his dress shirt is chafing at his back hair. It is our Christian duty to seek out a fallen comrade... and physically restrain him if necessary.
Come back to us, Cavey!

OH Cookie, Outstanding! This has got to be one of the most excellent posts I have ever scene.
I had to skip out on my after Mass prayers just so I could catch him to tell him my wife made him some cookies for the trip home.
If he leaves any faster he will end up running up Father's back!
LOL!! Laugh Riot!
If I lived within easy driving time, I'd find it funny, too. I leave home at 9:45, don't get home 'til 3:30. Can you blame me for wanting to get home?
Sheesh, how about cuttin' me some slack. How many others consistently spend 4 hours driving time?
I wonder what it's like to live only 30-45 mins from a parish that offers a Latin Mass.
Cookie,
You know I never left ya! I just want to get home before the sun goes down!
Aww we were just funnin' we know you have a serious hump Devil Dog, just thought it would be fun to poke you with a stick!
"I'm shocked, shocked" to read that Cavey is running out of Mass and zooming away like some Protestant trying to get to the Golden Corral buffet FIRST FIRST FIRST. Esp since 3:30 pm is well before sunset. According to the Almanac it sets at about 8:25 these days. Is Cavey exagerating a wee bit? After all, if he is trying to claim sunset is not that much later than 3:30 pm it strikes me that he might be bearing false witness. & Cavey would never do that.
By the way, doesn't grumbling about the drive time ( How many others consistently spend 4 hours driving time?) increase the time you will have to spend in Purgatory.
Check the ol' almanac to see when the sun sets in winter. 4:30-ish? Yeah, there are times I would like to get home before sunset.
And no grumbling on my part, just stating a fact. How far do you drive to Mass, Al?
Right now I am walking 3 blocks to Mass as I don't have a working car.
& yes, I know the sun sets at about 4:30 pm in the midst of Winter. But that is still an hour later than the 3:30 you say you get home.
Anyhow the real shock was that you were doing anything that would allow for comparing you to a "protestant". ;-)
I'm sure that Cookie was kidding when she compared me to Prot from high-tailing ASAP aster Mass. And yes, I was exaggerating for emphasis about "sunset". But it's not far from the truth.
In the 10+ years I've been attending the TLM, there have been a number of schedulae and location changes. So without getting into the specifics, let me just tell you that at one end of the spectrum, I was getting up at 4 AM for 8 AM Mass at one point, and at the other end, I wasn't getting home 'till 1 AM (Monday morning) from the 6 PM (Sunday) Mass.
Like I said, I've been dancing to this tune for over 10 years. And to be honest, It's getting real old.
Especially in light that a few years ago we ACTUALLY HAD a priest who would celebrate the TLM every Sunday!! HOORAY!!!!
Of course, one week after his first Mass, he unexpectedly got transferred to the other side of the diocese. So instead of a 15 min drive to Mass, it went back to almost 2 hours (one way) each and every Sunday.
Of the Catholics here in Wilmington who make that trek (myself included), this has caused familial arguments and other assorted hardships that shouldn't have begun to begin with.
So bear with me if I am a bit touchy about folks give me a hard time (even jokingly) about not socializing after Mass.
"I'm sure that Cookie was kidding when she compared me to Prot "
I know she was, I just couldn't resist, after all, how often do we see cavey & like a protestant in the same sentance.
Actually, living in the land of 10,000 litugical abuses, I can understand your fustration at not having anything closer.
So, go ahead, be grumpy/touchy or whatever. Just remember, this is all a bit of good natured kidding between friends.

How true, Al. Sorry I came off so pissy.
