Need To Brush Up On Your Basic Latin Prayers?
Let Venerable Pope Pius XII teach you!

With His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI asking all of us to familiarize ourselves with our basic Latin prayers, HERE is a WAV file of Servant of God Pope Pius XII reciting the Pater Noster (Our Father).

Pater noster, qui es in caelis
sanctificetur nomen tuum;
Adveniat regnum tuum. Fiat voluntas tua sicut in caelo et in terra
Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie.
Et dimitte nobis debita nostra,
sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris.
Et ne nos inducas in tentationem;
sed libera nos a malo.
Amen.

And also, here's the Ave Maria in the Official Language of The Church, click here for the WAV file

Ave Maria, gratia plena,
Dominus tecum,
benedicta tu in mulieribus,
et benedictus fructus ventris tui Iesus.
Sancta Maria mater Dei,
ora pro nobis peccatoribus, nunc, et in hora mortis nostrae.
Amen

Go ahead! Add the wav files to you desk top, and have them playing in a continual loop until you have them memorized. Remember... September 14th is right around the corner!!

Heheheheh... you don't need to know either of those two prayers for the Classical Rite (oops, sorry, extraordinary form) of Mass, as only the server responds... in the Our Father it's just the last line ("sed libera nos a malo") and the Hail Mary is said at the end in the vernacular!

The silence is awesome, and allows you to really get down and pray without any distractions!

Mac, You forget about those of us (like myself) who prefer to say our Rosary in Latin!

And the prayers at the end of the Mass are sometimes said in Latin as well.

I hate to dispute Caval infallibility, but alas, alack and wailaway: His Dominican Awesomeness Pope Pius XII is not as yet a Venerable. The Congregation for the Causes of Saints has recommended that he be declared Venerable, but the latest list of new Venerables (released the other day) did not, to my great disappointment, have his name on it. Pope Pius XII is thus still a Servant of God.

In honor of the great Pius' Third Order Dominican-ness, which necessarily indicates a dedication to truth on his part, I have to point this out, albeit reluctantly.

By the way, that is a way cool pic of the Great Pius, and I loved hearing him pray in Latin.

I believe "cc" in Ecclesiastical Latin is pronounced "tch" so the " peccatoribus " in the Ave Maria should be pronounced "petch-ah-tor-ee-boos.” That would make the audio file incorrect!!
But seriously, does anyone if that is correct?

I pray my Rosary in Latin. Took me a little while to memorize, but it was well worth the effort.

And I really really like saying "sacula saculorun."

Paul,
Your son should be on a TV show with Father Limpwrist, Sister Mary Liberated, and Bishop Toohip. It could be called "Are You Smarter Than A 5 Year Old".

Your son would kick ass.

Anita,
You're right. Correction made. "Servant of God" is the correct title for someone who has only had the process for his canonization started. As I now know, "Venerable" is the next step.

Thanks Anita!!

Heheheheh... I too like to pray the rosary in Latin (I learnt using the CD made by Pope JP the Great, and praying it in my car)...

...just pointing out that the Motu Proprio doesn't actually affect those two prayers!

How right you are, Mac! I was just running with the exhortation of The Holy Father from about a year ago that we should all become familiar with the basic prayers in Latin.

And it also might be a good example to the anti-TLM crowd, that learning the basics in Latin really isn't all that hard! *grinning!*

Great idea to put them on the desktop. I'm going to do that, and play them continuously when I have my laptop at work in my downtime in between calls. Full volume too, to drown out the guys playing the stupid video games and talking loudly to their internet buddies via headphones.

As a convert from the pagan Methodists, I've been praying the Holy Rosary in Latin for years just so I could feel like a Catholic in a Novus Ordo world. God bless the future St. Benedict! I finally feel like there's hope. And to Alexander: there's a slight difference in pronounciation between classical Latin and ecclesiastical Latin. I don't thing the great Pius XII would mispronounce Latin.

Alexander,

"cc" is pronounced "tch" when followed by the vowels e, ae, oe, i, or y, e.g. ecce ("et-che"). Peccatoribus is pronounced correctly on the recording.
