(If you drive a car car) I'll tax the street
(If you try to sit sit) I'll tax your seat
(If you get too cold cold) I'll tax the heat
(If you take a walk walk) I'll tax your feet
"Taxman" by George Harrison

You forgot to mention that you are taxed when you earn money, (income tax) and then taxed when you spend it (sales tax).
Although, because as good Catholics we have so many children, the IRS actually PAYS us around $3000 a year. (Yet another way Catholics are eventually going to take over the world!)
Maybe if they stopped overtaxing and then giving the money away there would be a change.
In Canada, the GST (Goods and Services Tax)....tax on virtually EVERY transaction that occurs. Not only in America.
Rhode Island has some of the worst of those taxes you list.
RI gas tax (though PA is close)
RI cigarette tax (though my wife and I both quit smoking on 2/1/06, I still have a problem with a $2.46 a pack smoke tax when states like MO only take 17 cents a pack in tax - and RI charges a sales tax on them to boot).
RI has New England's highest sales tax (7%)
Car insurance in RI is the worst in these parts.
Average municipal property tax in RI is around $20-25 per $1000 valuation (nearby MA averages about $12-15 per grand).
All on top of the usual federal woes.
Amazing is the fact that despite these worsts, RI only has ONE toll booth in the entire state: the Newport Bridge ($2.00 for cars and light trucks).
