Strange Things Are Afoot On Long Island,
Part II
I'm sure Pope St Pius X would be proud
Hat Tip to my wayward Southern-Yankee buddy

Auxiliary Bishop Paul Walsh blesses water that is poured into a baptismal font by Elaine Hallisey, left, pastoral associate, and Patti Hingerton, baptism committee chair, during a Mass dedicating the newly renovated St. Pius X Church, Plainview, Oct. 15. Also pictured are Msgr. Domenick Graziadio, pastor, and altar server Michele Mascolo.

If the estrogen was any thicker, I think the good bishop and monsignor will start lactating any second now.

Is it just me, or is that crucifix especially ugly? Seriously.... did an emotionally disturbed individual design it?

While the cross is strange - what exactly is Christ doing? I'm more disturbed by the older girl/young woman in cassock and surplice. I'm sorry, but that's just screwed up.

Well, at least the King in the Tabernacle is where it should be! However, the crucifx is extremely ugly (but again, it's not the "Flying Jesus"). Next, why does the priest (sorry, "Presider") have his back to the King? Oh, that's right. It's a performance, and as such, he must face the people. Lastly, how did we ever end up with the "Polyester Ponchos" instead of the beautiful pre-Vatican II vestments? Oh, that's right...."noble simplicity?"

Oh, how nice! The Altar and Rosary Society is making punch for the KOC social... oh, wait, did you say this was a dedication ceremony???
The crucifix does have a certain...Gollum... quality about it, doesn't it?
At least the flowers look nice. Whomever is in charge of the "Floral Display Minisitry" gets my compliments.

It looks almost as if Jesus is trying to yank himself down from the Cross...

Wondering what kind of twisted theology could come up with that one...

1) That is an ugly font.

2) WTH is a 'baptism committee'? Umm, on second thought I don't think I want to know.

The crucifix was deliberately made so repulsive in order to discourage devotion and prayer.

Goodness it looks as though He is trying to crawl off the cross and crush a few skulls. Perhapse it was a hint from the artist that the parish just didn't get? Reminds me of that moment in a horror movie where the dude doesn't realize what's about to get him from behind. Shriek!
