Buchanan Slams Am-Church Cardinals
Preach On, Brother Pat!

Hat Tip to Jay and Paul

I've always liked Pat Buchanan. Hell, I voted for him twice and even attended the NC Reform Party Convention a few years back. But that's a different story.

Pat Buchanan (a fellow Latin Mass Catholic, along with Justices Clarence Thomas and Antonin Scalia) has just raked many of our Cardinals over the coals for their cowardly silence in reference to the so-called "Catholic" lawmakers on Capitol Hill who back abortion.

Just a wee bit of Buchanan's straight talk to our chocolate eclair for spines Cardinals;

Sixty-six years ago, Bishop Clemens von Galen took to the pulpit of Munster Cathedral to damn Hitler's regime at the peak of its power for "plain murder" in its euthanasia program and to direct Catholics to "withdraw ourselves and our faithful from their (Nazi) influence so that we may not be contaminated by their ... ungodly behavior."

Cardinal von Galen is headed for sainthood.

What is asked of you, Cardinal McCarrick, and your fellow bishops is less heroic. Just issue a statement before the 32nd anniversary of Roe v. Wade on Jan. 22, 2006, declaring:

"We pray to God that Roe v. Wade is overturned. We commend all Catholics and fellow citizens working toward that goal. We condemn any Catholic politician who would deny a seat on the Supreme Court to a fellow Catholic -- on the grounds that he might vote to overturn this abomination."

That too much to ask, Your Eminence? As Dante said, there is a special place in hell for those who, in times of moral crisis, fail to take a stand. By the way, Dante put a lot of bishops in there.

The bishops (including the ones in red) seem to forget they are supposed to be "shepherds of men." The shepherds of the Lord's day had small flocks and walked in front, LEADING their sheep. How sad that so many of our bishops are not leaders, and, even worse, most are cowards. What? Speak the truth and risk upsetting some politician and not get invited to some big-shot shinding? Nope. Preach the "tough love" and risk have the collection plate fall off? Can't do that!

I'm no fan of Pat but on this issue he is absolutely right. If Teddy Kennedy died tommorow Cardinal McCarrick would hold a vigil for him at the cathedral.
