And The Roman Empire Collapsed Why, Again?
Something about being fat, lazy and stupid
Here's some of the article from The Navy Times; (Emphasis mine)
Most U.S. youths unfit to serve, data show
U.S. military-age youth are increasingly unfit to serve — mostly because they’re in such lousy shape.
According to the latest Pentagon figures, a full 35 percent, or more than one-third, of the roughly 31.2 million Americans aged 17 to 24 are unqualified for military service because of physical and medical issues. And, said Curt Gilroy, the Pentagon’s director of accessions, “the major component of this is obesity.
75 percent of the nation’s 17- to 24-year-olds are ineligible for service for a variety of reasons. According to the Pentagon, the ineligible population breaks down this way:
•Medical/physical problems, 35 percent.
•Illegal drug use, 18 percent.
•Mental Category V (the lowest 10 percent of the population), 9 percent.
•Too many dependents under age 18, 6 percent.
•Criminal record, 5 percent.
OK, there are those out there with legit medical reason why they can't join. I don't begrudge them a thing. There are those out there with weight problems. I can see that.
But when fully 3 out of 4 Americans 17 to 24 years of age are ineligible to join the Service... you know something is horribly wrong.

Is "medical/physical problems" a catch-all that includes self-mutilation in the name of lowlife fashions, like tattooing "F*** YOU" across the forehead, or binder rings through the septum, or tongue piercings, or giant ear holes for the insertion of flesh tunnels?
It's getting so bad they now have to recruit the enemy to join.
The Roman Empire collapsed due to too many illegal aliens.
Umnnnhhhh....
Just "off the top," seventy-five percent seems WAAAAYYYYYY too high, doesn't it?
Look a little further into the story and you find folks who are pushing an Obama Agenda, by the way.
I see this "out of shape youth" thing all the time. Even children who are thin can't run for anything. My sons play select sports. My husband runs them, makes them do pushups & situps every single night. You'd swear it's bootcamp around here sometimes. But guess what? My oldest can run suicides on the baskeball court 10 times and not die like his team mates. He can race with the fastest kid and not give up, even though he might not win. My youngest is skinny but determined. He will do whatever his brother does. Maybe not as well, but he doesn't give up. And he can also run sprints and suicides and not die afterwards.
Too much tv & video games will be the death of us all.
I can't keep jeans on my son's non-existent hips. I might be a bit porky, but not my kid. I never had an ounce of fat until I became a desk-jockey, and now I fight the battle every day, but my son eats like a horse and never gains a pound.
Gosh, think maybe we should have MORE gym class rather than less these days?
Of course, if you homeschool...
@ TCN: Yea Homeschoolers!!
