BREAKING NEWS!!!
We interrupt this blog for...

I usually punch out two or three postings at a time, and then schedule them for posting over a 24 hour period. Not now.

I feel duty bound to IMMEDIATELY post the latest and greatest from LarryD's The Illustrated Progressive Catholic Alphabet. Way too damn funny! I've already posted the first two installments, here's the last two (Part III and Part IV).

Here's a small taste --

M Music

Music is "instrumental" in order to do Eucharist well. Guitars, drums and tambourines, combined with rich theological songs like Gather Us In and I Am The Bread Of Life, invite the Spirit in to dance and move among us. "Less organ, more Haugen" sums it up nicely.

P Puppets

Puppets are very useful in doing Eucharist, to help explain the more difficult concepts of Church, such as oppression, tolerance and feelings. The goal is to make Church fun!

V Vatican II

Vatican II was a Council in the 1960's that ushered a New Church into being. The "Spirit of Vatican II", as it's commonly called, permitted women to become priests, prohibited Latin, did away with the Rosary, introduced guitars and drums during Liturgy (see "M"), said contraception was okay, rewrote the 10 Commandments, sanctioned divorce and remarriage, allowed shacking up, embraced feminism and introduced the DH rule into Major League Baseball.

Unfortunately, the Hierarchy hi-jacked Vatican II, and prohibited nearly everything, except for the DH rule (but only for the American League).

W Worship

Worship is the time when we do Eucharist and celebrate Church. You can tell the time of year by the types of clothes the priest wears; for instance, if the priest is in a costume, then it's Halloween time. Worship is about hospitality, fun and making everyone feel good about themselves.

The "M Music" was a good one. I only attend Holy Mass with organ/choir. The last straw for me, at the "contemporary music" Mass, were songs played on the piano that sounded like some gaudy, vulgar Broadway musical.

Also, now traditional Latin Mass is celebrated at our parish on Fridays, which I am attending. Such reverence! Such holiness and mystery! Born in the mid-60s, I never got to experience the Latin Mass, and I was never properly catechized.

The "P" one:

1. Do you see the goofy look on the priest's face? He doesn't even have to wear his Barney mask/head now!

2. It always irritates me when priests, who should know better, wear the stole outside the chasuble. The rubrics of the GIRM give the correct order for donning ecclesiastical vestments. Unfaithful in small things. What does that say for the big stuff?
