Well, Seeing It's Already Out There...
Thank you 'alert reader', whoever you are

From Father Zuhlsdorf's blog, What Does The Prayer Really Say?

And suffice it to say, I'm soooooooo glad Father posted this. And from what I recall, Father Zuhlsdorf is pretty well connected in Rome.

A curious parish bulletin note
CATEGORY: SESSIUNCULA — Fr. John Zuhlsdorf @ 2:38 pm

An alert reader sent me the following notice about a comment in a parish bulletin in the Diocese of Raleigh, NC, St. Mary’s in Willmington where Fr. Robert Kus.

Fourth, beginning the last Sunday of August, the diocese will host a “forma extraordinaria” Mass at 7 p.m. at St. Mary’s upon my invitation. It will occur the last Sunday of each month at 7 p.m. This Mass was common in modern times of our Church history but declined greatly when the Second Vatican Council asked us to go back to the ancient Mass, i.e., the Mass conducted in the language of the people. The forma extraordinaria Mass is a diocesan event, not a ministry of St. Mary parish. Our parish will continue to only offer the ancient form of the Mass in English and Spanish. For more information on the forma extraordinaria Mass, contact the parish in Dunn, NC.
Let’s get this straight…

•The older Mass, pre-Conciliar, or forma extraordinaria was once "common"!
•Vatican II asked us to go back to the "ancient Mass", which is the Novus Ordo!
•Vatican II wanted us to go back to the "language of the people", as in ancient times!
•The ancient form of Mass is in English and Spanish.

Father needs a refresher course.

On the other hand, I am glad that he has been willing to host an event for the diocese.

This situation seems a lot like situations that I have encountered when working for the Dept. of Energy and having regulatory "issues" with the occasional management & operating contractor. We called this situation "malicious compliance."

There is NOTHING ancient about the Novus Ordo Missae. Funny thing, the Jews in Jesus' time used Hebrew as a religious language. It was not the vernacular way back then. Aramaic and the Koine were. The classical Arabic of the Koran is still de rigueur with the Muslims. It too is not the vernacular Arabic of today.

So let me get this straight. Rather than make it possible for me to go to ANY Catholic Mass from here to Tibet to Podunk, USA by making Latin the universal language of the Mass...

It's better to have it in native languages that people may or may not speak (including ones as rare as Ilcano) so that if a Mass is in Spanish I will be totally excluded because I only speak English or will have to travel around for a church?

Philosophical question of the day.

"If it was the "ancient Mass", why is it called the Novus Ordo?

Fr. Z's comment about that priest needing a refresher course is an understatement

"malicious compliance."

Got to love that term. Going into my permanent vocabulary ;>))

Who briefed this person on what to write? It sounds like some of the stuff I wrote in high school when I was trying to BS my way through an essay answer.

So did Father really invite the diocese to have a TLM at his parish? Is that really what happened? I sense a little dishonesty here, aside from the terrible rewriting of history.

I'm not even sure what language Fr. Kus is writing in. It cannot possibly be English, since it makes no sense. ;)

I didn't have to read that to know how he feels about the TLM. I got a pretty good idea the first time I received communion from him(and all the times thereafter as well)and how he jams the Host in your mouth perpendicular to your tongue.
Real nice.
