Hitler On The Hudson
NY Times advocates withholding medical treatment for elderly & very sick

WARNING! Harsh language alert!

The headline say is all: Why We Must Ration Health Care

Here's the weak-assed scenario they give;
You have advanced kidney cancer. It will kill you, probably in the next year or two. A drug called Sutent slows the spread of the cancer and may give you an extra six months, but at a cost of $54,000. Is a few more months worth that much?Of course, they yammer on ad nauseum how horrible it is to throw away good money on these inconsiderate sick people.

You know... why even bother looking for a cure if those stricken are going to have medical treatment withheld? If these ass-wipes at the NY Times were in charge, people would still be crippled for life with polio and dying by the truckload of plague.

We have to ration health care because this nation has not enacted meaningful tort reform. Imagine how much money would be saved or re-directed to medical care if we would just shoot 2/3 of the ambulance chasers and close down 90% of the nation's law schools without even fixing the poor-business practices related to the delivery of health care.

The author of that outrageous article is Peter Singer. It figures. He advocates that mothers and fathers ought to be able to kill their children before the age of 1 year because he asserts they are not fully conscious until after that time and, therefore, not really human--i.e., having human rights. What a crock!

When I was living in New Zealand, I came down with chicken pox for the first time. When I went to see a doctor, all she did was tell me to get lots of bed rest and stay away from pregnant women who had never had chicken pox.

I was surprised that she didn't prescribe anything, because I knew there was a drug that would reduce the number of sores (not to mention reduce the agony). When I asked her about that, she told me that there wasn't enough of it to go around and that I'd have to catch genital herpes before she'd write out a prescription for me.

So people who get sick through no fault of their own can just suck it up, while people who directly cause their own misery get first priority? That was my first brush with socialised medicine and I still have the scars to show for it. (Literally!)

Trust me, government health care is hell! You get great help for basic illnesses and injuries but once you need specialized care, it's awful!

And the health care folk make sure and go out of their way to let you know that YOU ARE A BURDEN, you should be ASHAMED!!!, for asking for help.

If you want to be made to feel like trash for getting ill or hurt, or just going into labor!! (damn you!), get government health care!!

Jeff Hendrix here. As a survivor of kidney cancer, you take things out of the hypothetical for me (fortunately mine was not advanced like that of the guy my surgeon operated on earlier in the day - he's gone, I'm not).

The health care reform debacle seems like a ruse to me: the typical Modernist hot potato that gets thrown back and forth by the right and the left - a distraction from the real issue. What's that?

Our mortality, our need for salvation and Savior, our being - literally - distracted to death by the keepers of neo-pagan pop culture.

I disagree with the enormous folderal of Prez I Wun as an apparent growing majority agrees. But EVERYBODY needs a reality check on their - our, my - mortality.

If we forget such memento mori, we forget the Titanic does finally sink. Cheers

Peter Singer, what a surprise.

This really is how it started in Nazi Germany. They first classified the old, the weak, and the sick as expendable, and the earliest concentration camps, such as Dachau, were built to house these people.

It took only a few years of this for people to become so desensitizied, that by the time Hitler proposed the Final Solution for the Jews in the late 30s, it was, from a PR standpoint, no big deal.

The NY Times has been disappearing from subway and bus seats (how I'd get my own free copy)all over NYC. Hardly anyone buys it anymore. IMHO it couldn't happen to a more vile rag :-D

This was discussed in Viktor Frankl's Autobiography which I urge all bloglodytes to read. Frankl's wife was forced to get an abortion or else be deported to a concentration camp. The Nazis started to eliminate the Jewish population through abortion of their children. Then they mandated euthanasia of other undesirables (e.g., mentally ill & handicapped people).

We fought a war to get rid of this crap and now it is in the not so early stages of being visited on the alleged victors of WWII! I miss the days when we had to worry about international Communism. What is beginning to happen in Western societies is going to be an order of magnitude worse than anything the commies could do to us.

There should be no wondering why these folks are advocating gun control.

I am 60 years old and not that far from being considered an "undesirable" myself!

Yes, Simplex Vir - your correction is more apt.

As for Peter Singer - if you ever see this guy interviewed... he seems like the most hum drum, boring, mild mannered academic... as if harmless. This is so much in contrast to the viciously evil philosophy that he has so long advocated.

The dissemination of such sinister views always starts from/within the intelligentsia (the academe), and slowly trickles down to politics, the legal sphere, and finally propelled by the "journalists" of the day into society at large.

Last week the NY Times honors Ginsberg who supports killing the unborn, esp from undesirable populations, this week they give time to 1 of the more unethical ethicists there is.

What next? I dread to think.

. . . esp from undesirable populations . . . .

How ironic that this should allegedly (All I mean is that I didn't read this myself) come from someone who is Jewish. Shades of the "untermensch" turned around and aimed at some other groups.

Come to think of it, demonic, not ironic, is a better description for this.
