A Rainy Day Visits Notre Dame
And that's all it is

I goes without saying that we're all pretty pissed-off at Presider Jenkins and the crap going on at the University of Notre Dame. We're all glad when we read that the alum are withholding $14 million in donations... but here's the kicker; unless this is long-term, then this is nothing more than a hiccup, the proverbial "rainy day", if you will.

UND has plenty of money already put aside for situations just like this. When a certain Captain of Industry decides to hold-off on individually donating tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of dollars... that's great. But what can working stiffs like you and I do?

Here's what we can do. One of the biggest sources of ready cash for ND is the football broadcast contract they have with NBC. Even when The Fightin' Irish have a worse than usual season, the NBC contract pulls in millions.

Drop a line to NBC Sports (Here's their e-mail address: NBC Sports) and let them know that not only will you not be watching any further games, you will also boycott the advertisers. Here's the letter I just sent;

Please know that I will no longer be viewing any further NBC broadcasts of Notre Dame football. I will also boycott all advertisers (and fwd this letter to each).

Thank you,
XXXXXX X. XXXXXXXX
Even if you could care less about Notre Dame football, invest 20 seconds and send a message!!

Much like my partner-in-crime, Confiteor, I was also raised a Notre Dame fan. My dad could have easily been Ned Beatty's character in Rudy. And I'll bet a lot of you reading this are shaking your head 'yes' and saying the same thing about your own father. In my household "Thou Shalt Be An Irish Fan" was the 11th Commandment. I'm not jokin'.

Well, is there anything else we can do? Here's a tid-bit from FoxNews.com;
Others close to the Catholic controversy said they plan to punish Notre Dame financially.

Jeannette Niezgodski, of South Bend, Ind., said the decision will have a lasting and immediate effect on her family's previously close connection to the university.

"My mom, we buy her Notre Dame tickets every year, and that's not going to happen anymore," she said. "And when we get home, we're going to burn all our Notre Dame apparel and there will be no more funding from any of us or anyone I know."
All I'm waiting for now is the burn permit from the Fire Department, and the first game of the season.

Yeah, I thought about that NBC contract as well. It will be interesting to see how much NBC's ratings fall this year. I think I can count on one hand the number of Notre Dame games I have missed since I was eight years old. I will be boycotting the 2009 season. I do hope that there are hundreds of thousands of others who will do the same.

I was also thinking about packaging up all my ND regalia and mailing it back to Notre Dame. Maybe even to the attention of Fr. Jenkins.

Fellas, I started my boycott of the NFL last year with the Superbowl when they allowed a pro-life commercial to be quashed. So not only no Fighting Irish on Sat, but also no NFL on Sunday.

I just can's support it at all. This is a big one for me as I have never missed a Superbowl and I can count on one hand the number of Redskins games I have missed.

This fall will be very unusual.

This makes a lot of sense we need to teach these guys a lesson where it hurts namely the pocketbook.

I am wondering if we can start a red envelope campaign for ND, start sending red envelopes to ND and flood the jenkins mailbox and really slow down the post at ND.

Well I did it--the email that is. I hate to be a pessimist, but what the H*ll. I don't really think enough Americans, Catholics, Notre Damers of various stripes, etc., are bothered all that much about this.
