Bravo Zulu To The Dutch Marines, To Hell With The Cowardly Politicians
Qua Patet Orbis (As Far As The World Extends)
It's enough to make you weep. But the Dutch are by and large (like the rest of Europe) scared to death to be seen as "insulting islam".
Here's some of the article from Marine Log; (Emphasis mine)Dutch Marines free hostages, release pirates
Somali pirate activity continues at a high level.
NATO forces foiled an attempted attack on the Marshall Islands flag chemical/products tanker Handytankers Magic, which is managed by Roxana Shipping SA of Athens. The British fast fleet tanker RFA Wave Knight responded to a distress call from the tanker and the Dutch frigate De Zeven Provincieën subsequently detained a dhow to which the pirates had fled in their attack skiff.
Two Dutch Marine boarding teams in RHIB's found about 25 people on board the dhow--along with seven AK-47's and a grenade launcher. Nine of those on board were determined to be pirates. The others were Yemeni fishermen whose dhow had been hijacked last Thursday and taken over by the suspected pirates to use as a mother ship.
Dutch forces sent the dhow on its way back to Yemen and destroyed the captured weapons and other materials that could be used for piracy. The pirate suspects were put in the skiff and released.
The reason given for their release by a NATO spokesman was: "NATO does not have a detain policy, a national policy will apply and under these circumstances, the Dutch law cannot prosecute." That headline should be corrected to say:Dutch Marines free hostages, Ordered to release pirates

I believe the Dutch international legal authority, Hugo Grotius, would have quite a bit to say in opposition to this.
The Navy SEALS had a better solution.
While I applaud what the Dutch Marines did, where in the theological place of eternal damnation are the American Marines?
1 The Marshall Islands are in what is called a free association with the USA that includes the USA being responsible for thier defense.
2: Why do I have the uneasy feeling that the Obama mal-administration may order a rewrite of the Marine Corps anthem deleating the line "to the shores of Tripoli"? I think Cavey knows where I am heading & since he is a MC Vet, I will give him the honor of saying what needs to be said about what Obama should be doing over there in Somalia & isn't.
Al,
Our Marines are busy killing al-Qaeda douche bages in Afghanistan.
But a couple of USMC FAST Teams (a VERY little know Spec Ops unit) in the Horn of Africa would be fun!!

My point exactly, with over 200 years of dealing with pirates from Tripoli on, the USMC should be able to deal with these so called fishermen with 1 hand tied behind their backs. If Obama would let them do what they do so well.
I worked with the Dutch Marines in the first iteration of the Multination force and observers, peace keeping in the Sinai. (A mission so booring that we used to place bets on camels wandering across mine fields, and our main casualties requiring evac were psychiatric.)
The damned Union they belonged to was a pain in the ass, 'till our airborne Sgt Maj had a "talk" with the shop steward.
We couldn't put them on OP duty, as they just wouldn't do it.
One of their NCO's was sent home--but not disciplined--for sodomizing the Bn. mascot--a goat.
I'm suprised they didn't serve the pirates tea.
IR,
Unions... *shudder*
Somewhat different from the Dutch Marines I knew aboard Camp Lejeune.
