As I was watching a few minutes of the election analysis on Fox News last week it was reported that the Catholic vote was slightly leaning for McCain. If I remember correctly, in places like Ohio and Florida, the breakdown of the Cacholic vote amongst "church-going Catholics" was about 45% for Obama and 55% for McCain. Also, it was reported that in Ohio, the breakdown for "church-going Evangelicals" was something like 30% for Obama and 70% for McCain. Think about this for a moment folks, it appears that at least in certain parts of the country the protestant churches are doing a much better job at ingraining a Catholic world view in their faithful than is the Catholic Church. As a Catholic I am somewhat ashamed at the disparity here. Just think, if the forces for good in this world could actually depend on Catholics voting like Catholics then we would likely not be facing a Barack Obama presidency. All the Catholic Church has to do is vote as well as the evangelicals and we would be presently advancing the cause for life instead of ceding ground to the cause for death.
So thank you Obama "Catholics." In case you need reminding on what you did last week, here is a list off the top of my head of the pro-death and/or anti-Catholic and/or anti-family causes you directly or indirectly advanced by casting your state and/or federal Democrat ballots:
1. Embryonic Stem Cell Research - will be advanced through the government purse as well as government regulatory policy;
2. Cloning - see above;
3. Assisted Suicide (see federal court appointments);
4. Gay marriage (see federal court appointments);
5. Abortion on demand (see Freedom of Choice Act, the Mexico City Policy, as well as federal court appointments);
6. AIDS epidemic in Africa - no more emphasis on abstinence. Nope, that backward George W. Bush had it all wrong, using condoms is a much more progressive concept;
7. Equal Pay Amendment - you working fathers and stay at home mothers think your family budget is tight now, wait until this and other social engineering policies become the law of the land. As I have stated numerous times, for every man that is hurt by feminism, there is usually a woman and child who is also hurt. Feminism has only helped a few elite women at the top, and has pretty much made life worse for the woman in the middle or at the bottom;
8. Barack Obama style federal education policy - You think this is going to be Catholic friendly? Well, you better get use to it because rest assured Barack Obama's tax, economic, and environmental policies will ensure a lot less wealth for the vast majority of us in the years to come and you won't be able to afford the CINO parochial option. You will be limited to sending your kid to an Obama state school, or until it is outlawed, homeschool;
9. Coming IRS actions against the US Catholic Church; and
10. A punitive and oppressive tax structure. Despite what the "social justice" Catholics may lead you to believe, the Catholic Church does not teach that it is unjust to cut the federal income tax, or even to eliminate the federal income tax entirely. Additionally, the Catholic Church does not teach that the only just society is one in which all citizens are dependent on the government for subsistence. Feudalism served its purpose during a particularly dark era of human history, but the Catholic Church has never held that feudalism must return in the form of the monolothic administrative state. On the contrary, how Catholic is it really that the average American family's collective federal and state tax burden is so high that most families are forced into a situation where both parents have to work. Just think, if you did not hand over almost half of every dollar you earned in various forms of government taxation, would your wife really be forced to work in order for your family to make ends meet? In turn, how much does this fact contribute to the average CINO's contraceptive mentality?
Anyway, this is just a start. I think I may just refresh this list every month or so after Obama takes office. As his agenda begins taking fold, all speculation will be put aside, and the list can then be filled with substantive reality.

You left out an emboldened Russia that will increasingly threaten its neighbors, and emboldened enemies abroad who have already stepped up the violence in Iraq to hurry the promised American withdrawal.
Hey, remember, if the IRS starts taxing churches, clergy can start saying anything they want. So, that's not necessarily entirely bad. In fact, I believe I might start praying for it; we need open and blatant claims to authority, and the IRS has been smothering it.
"Hey, remember, if the IRS starts taxing churches, clergy can start saying anything they want."
The clergy should be saying what needs to be said now and damn the taxes.
Interesting that you posted this.
I just posted this as a response over at Catholic Forums --

Considering the number of Obama '08 bumper stickers I see in the parking lots of parishes in this deanery (and I would imagine the entire diocese), the amount of people who attend Mass wearing Obama '08 shirts and pins, considering that recently at a "Catholic" school 'Fall Festival', kids were having the Obama for President 'Rising Sun' symbol painted on their faces, etc, etc, ad nauseum.... I'm quite sure the number of "practicing Catholics" can't be that far behind those generically lumped into the category.
Let's face it. The Bishops dropped the ball on this one. They stood up too few, too little, too late.
This is an even greater scandal than most of the bishops who protected homosexual rapists (http://www.dallasnews.com/cgi-bin/bi...2/priests.cgi). This go-'round, babies are being murdered, and due to the tepid response of our "shepherds", an ardent baby-killer will now occupy The White House.
And I fully expect the moderators of this forum to delete this posting. God forbid anyone tell the truth about The Emperor's New Clothes.
Good point about the Church being taxed. However, I would just remind you that other than its existing property holdings which are more and more being liquidated to pay off certain abuse settlements, the Church's only real source of revenue is what you and I tithe each and every Sunday. I don't know about you, but the thought of the federal or state government coming in and taking thirty-forty percent of my tithe is not something I could stand.
Could it be that there are some wolves among the parish clergy and in positions of influence who keep the average Catholic confused on what it means to be a praciticng Catholic.
I posted something about CUA:

The Church meanwhile could still have clout if the bishops get their act together at their meeting.
If Obama's FOCA and abortion covering insurance pass - shut down all at once every school, hospital, and charitable institution.
And many many nurses in health care are Catholics. If they were to refuse to work....
I heard different stats that aren't as good as the ones you state. The overall Catholic vote was 55 Obama; 45 McCain. Among Catholics who attend Mass weekly, it's 50 McCain, 49 Obama. For those who sporadically attend Mass and have the gall to call themselves Catholic, it was an 18 point spread in favor of Obama 60 to 42.
And so, oh High Potentate of the Cave, our work is cut out for us. And I'm not very optimistic. Ever since the Protestantizing of the Catholic Church in 1968 and the Great Sexual Rebellion against Humanae Vitae, orgasm driven "Catholics" are looking for ways to justify their orgasms and still look like they follow Catholic morality.
I guess we have to be the ones to dump ice cold water on them to "break free" from their copulating with sin. Lord, have mercy on us!
FWIW, the IBC/TIPP poll (pre-election) indicated that RC's voted McCain 51/40 (IIRC.)
It is a CNN exit-poll which you cite, going the other way.
Your point number 7 is especially poignant. G.K. Chesterton makes the same argument throughout his writings: feminism has done far more harm to women than good. It benefits a few rich elitists -- both male and female -- while exploiting middle and lower class women mercilessly.
we're gonna have to stand for christ with the church against the forces of a secular government. It's our punishment for not standing tall against the secularization of the culture, and the betrayal of our faith by forces within The Lords church.
BTW--VIR (et al) Thanks to your Jarheadness, I'm still free! And that goes to all you Squids, wingnuts and Doggies as well!
Persecution will separate the wheat from the chaff. Persecution will make the US church go stronger and will make Catholics be much more fervent in their faith.
Yes this is all very scary, we need to pray and fast for strength to make it past this chastisement and testing.
Happy Veteran's Day to you all here in the Lair.
My husband's co-worker, who is a non-denom, gave him a print out their church was passing out. The print out emphasized the differences of McCain/Obama and showed how a vote for Obama would be a vote against life.
What did we hear from our parish? We heard during Prayers of the Faithful "that all people exercise their right to vote their conscious". Nothing else, not call to vote for life...nada.
I agree with you all here, the bishops have failed us once again.
