First off, it's hilarious that she of all people is saying that the U.S. should help with education.

Well if she is any representation of our end product, I can hear the world saying, "NO THANK YOU!"

Second, how are we supposed to help south Africa, "The Iraq", and "asian" countries if we don't have any maps to find them?

Well, it's South Carolina, what did you expect?

Also, do you think you might make another appearance at a certain parish for the Motu Proprio celebrations? I'll be up there to see my seminarians and get some real preaching and liturgy... ;)

Ditto on the "I weep" but in regard to Gen. Puller's comment in Prevat2's post below, there won't be any hardier race springing from the loins of that dumbbell, no matter who breeds with her.

The comments on that video are horrendous.

Not at her, but at Americans.

They call us "uneducated". I call them "ungrateful".

Alli,
We'll probably make it up there. It being on a Friday, I don't have to worry about getting up early to go to work the next day.

Also, no cracks at South Carolina. That's where Mrs. Caveman's from, and she's one of the most intelligent women you's ever have the pleasure of meeting (and you probably will on the 14th!

See ya then!

Could the correct answer be because 1/5 of Americans spend too much time worrying about their appearance and not enough time learning about the world around them?

Hi Kevin!

Miss South Carolina may not be as brainless as she appears. She seems to have the qualifications of a CNN reporter. Maybe she'll use this little Q&A session as an audition tape.

Meh, I like the email going around about the (British) Queen taking back control of the US. In this email, condolences are given because 98% of the US doesn't realize other countries exist. I believe it was written pre-9/11, but between the chords it strikes and Rick Mercer's Talking to Americans, which my History teacher once used quite excellently as a primer on Canada/US relations, I am happy to live north of the border.

But, now that my excersize of Canadian patriotism is done (our national identity being that we aren't Americans,) I should probably note that I couldn't bare to watch the whole movie, and paused it when first she said the word 'maps'.

I, personally, guess that 1/5 of Americans can't locate the USofA on a map because they'd never done it before. As to why that is... I'll leave that to Americans explains before my Canadian national identity infiltrates any more of this comment.

If satirical e-mails are what pass for serious source material in Canada, then I'm glad you're north of the border as well.

But, now that my excersize of Canadian patriotism is done (our national identity being that we aren't Americans,)

Your national identity sounds more like a national inferiority complex.

I should probably note that I couldn't bare to watch the whole movie, and paused it when first she said the word 'maps'.

Agreed. We have our share of the none-too-bright here in The States. I'm sure you have the same percentage in Canada.

If you would seriously like to know the reason for the dismal state of public education in the US, go to

Hidden One, I've spent plenty of time north of the border (well, south whilst in Windsor, but that's a nitpicky detail). I assure you that, at least in southwestern Ontario, you have quite as many dunderheads as we have here. Go check out the blog Overheard at Western, which is entirely devoted to recording stupid things people have heard students say at the University of Western Ontario. And it's supposed to be a GOOD school...

And while Talking to Americans is funny, I guarantee you that Rick Mercer has left every intelligent response on the cutting room floor. Why? They aren't funny. He's a comedian. Yes, he's a very intelligent and astute comedian who has a good understanding of politics, but fundamentally he knows he's in the business of making people laugh. And what's going to make Canadians laugh more than seeing Americans make fools of themselves?

I couldn't stand to watch the whole clip either. The reason is that our educrats do not think that knowledge is as important as feelings and political correctness.
