When Murderers Are More Important Than The Victims
Yet another justice-challenged, weak-kneed bishop
WARNING! Harsh language alert
Bishop Samuel Aquila of North Dakota sounds as if he's been spending just a little too much time with 12 year olds. No... I don't mean that. I'll explain at the end of this post.
The good bishop is coming out against the upcoming execution of a certain piece of shit named Alfonso Rodriguez Jr. who kidnapped, raped, tortured, and then slashed the throat of University of North Dakota student, Dru Sjodin (pronounced Shu-deen), 22.
Said piece of shit, Rodriguez had been released from jail in May of 2003 after completing a 23-year prison term for stabbing and trying to kidnap a woman. Rodriguez had also previously pleaded guilty to raping another woman.
Sjodin's body was found partially nude and face down in a ravine. Her hands were tied behind her back and she had been beaten, stabbed, sexually assaulted, and had several lacerations including a five and a half inch cut on her neck. A rope was also tied around her neck and remnants of a shopping bag were found under the rope suggesting that a bag had been placed on her head. The medical examiner concluded that she had either died as a result of the major neck wound, from suffocation, or from exposure to the elements.
And what does Bishop Aquila have to say about all this? Get ready for a trip back to Grade School....
"According to some of the testimony heard, Mr. Rodriguez experienced violence as a child. He later inflicted violence as an adult".
Who gives a shit!!?? This Rodriguez ass-hole had a tough life, huh? Too damn bad. Lots of us had it tough as kids. None of us kidnap, rape, torture and then murder.
You know what Bishop Aquila, you need to start acting more like a Catholic bishop, and less like the overprotective mommy of that sack of shit.
As I've pointed out many a time on this blog, the OFFICIAL Teaching of the Church is that the death penalty is authorized in cases of extreme gravity. If this isn't a case of extreme gravity, I don't know what is.
Along the lines of Aquila conducting himself like a Catholic bishop... how come I haven't read a damn thing about him saying or doing ANYTHING for Dru or the Sjodin family? No Rosaries, no Novenas, no Masses said for her soul or for the comfort of the family? Oh, but he'll piss all over himself defending that son of a bitch scum-bag Rodriguez, right? This really pisses me off.
Bishop Aquila also went on with this little gem "Violence only promotes violence and is not the way of Jesus Christ". Now that wasn't very well thought through. Under Aqulia's rationale, all those Marines, sailors, soldiers and Coast Guardsmen who had the bad manners to shoot back at Peal Harbor failed to "follow the way of Jesus Christ". Who screwed-up and authorized this moron to be consecrated a bishop?
I look at pictures of that poor girl, and then I think of the pure horror of her last few hours left on earth. That honestly quickly fills my heart with tears. Then I read about that idiot bishop in Fargo, and heart is slowly but surely filled with anger.
Maybe we should all remember Dru and her family tomorrow at Mass. Obviously, Bishop Aquila won't.

double AMEN!
This is one of the very few cases in which I would support the death penality (due to the fact that the man has served time and then left jail to hurt the innocent again and again.) Still, as weak as the bishop's stand is on this, and as satisfying as it seems to hope this thug burns in Hell, the greatest test of our Christian charity is that we not only pray for the victium's family, but the killer, that he may make his peace with God and be truly sorry and seek pennance before he dies. If he goes to Hell the only winner is Satan.
FD, my friend, I ask you to keep three things in mind...
1. Free will
2. Personal accountability
3. Hell exists for a reason
Oops, I alsmost forgot... when you stated (due to the fact that the man has served time and then left jail to hurt the innocent again and again.) If he would have been properly dealt with concerning his first 1st degree rape (executed), Dru Sjodin would be alive today and living a happy life.
Why stop at the killer, Cavey? Let's execute the parole board for releasing him, or maybe even the state's Attorney General for not imlementing a pervert detection and permanant detention system. Why not cap the Governor and the Legislature as well, since they're falling down on the job. Let's also line up the entire porn industry, which keeps these sickos in a froth, against the wall as well.
Is hope for this man's repentance a sign of weakness, or a sign of Faith? I'm inclined for the latter, as we should be as eager for this sinner's repentance as we are our own. Meditate on Matthew 18:21 on.
"omne debitum dimisi tibi quoniam rogasti me"

Not a bad idea!
But one imprtant detail you're leaving out JimBobbie... none of those folks kidnapped Dru Sjodin, none of them raped Dru Sjodin, none of tortured Dru Sjodin, none of them slashed ther throat of Dru Sjodin. Did you miss that detail?
But then again, why even bother having a judicial system? What say we just read a Bible verse to them and let them on their merry way?
Oh, and if he was truly repentant, he's accept his punishment as expiation for his sins. Right?
It alwayws disgusts me that none of the Bishop Aquila's or Sr. Helen Prejeans of this world EVER go visit the families of the victims. They never sit with the mothers or offer prayers for them. Instead they slobber all over the killer. I guess the glamour of evil blinds them.
