What Was All That About "Booming Vocations" In Southern Africa?
With priests like this, who needs pagans?

Southern Africa's Catholic bishops have warned priests to stop moonlighting as witch doctors, fortune tellers and traditional healers, and to rely on Christ for miracles.

Interesting headline, huh? You know, things gotta be pretty bad when the bishops FINALLY find those much searched for spine donors, and actually say "stop".

Don't expect the bishops to actually DO anything... talking is pretty much the extent of their actions (or lack thereof).

Now I don't want anyone to misunderstand me. I'm quite sure that most of the priests in southern Africa are decent, hardworking men of God. But now it's time for a common sense check -- with all the crap that happens, and the usual response from bishops is absolutely nothing, we here have a case where the bishops are actually acknowledging this in public! Is it that bad there? Must be.

But in all fairness, I guess I shouldn't be so hard on these wayward priests. After all, just a few short years ago, so-called "Archbishop" Buti Tlhagale, of Bloemfontein, South Africa had animal sacrifice and a "blood libation to the ancestors" incorporated into the Catholic Mass.

In Archpresider Tlhagale's own word's ~ "...the libation is a gift to the ancestors, not to God" and "ancestor veneration and the symbolic pouring of blood as libation is not a return to paganism. It is how Africans talk to the dead."

Sure sounds like paganism to me. How 'bout you? I guess he never heard of something called intercessory prayer.

The corruption of the faith in non-European(-dominated) nations, countries, and societies is nothing new. Take a look at the "voodoo" Catholics of Haiti or the neo-pagan Catholics of Peru.

This nonsensical neo-paganism/Catholic "synthesis" in the former Republic of South Africa is -- in the words of my old, high school Latin teacher (a Black American of mixed ancestry) -- "Nothin' new."

"The Faith is Europe. And Europe is the Faith."
--Hilaire Belloc

I predict (and this is strictly my theory and opinion) that the Faith will not see a general restoration until Europe once again becomes Catholic and united. I dont say that to be controversial or offensive, but to highlight the principle of leadership by example.

The Faith did not begin in Europe: but in Europe, and nowhere else, it was perfected. For centuries the Church, the Empire, the Pope, and the Emperor -- along with all the Catholic ecclesiastical and lay hierarchy -- defined and defended the Faith. Europe generally, and the former territories of the Roman Empire specifically, is the heart of the Faith.

And yet observe this faltering heart...

The Pope in Rome is (or, rather, should be) the one man who should set the standards of faith and morality for Christians. Yet, he has not done so. Or perhaps it should be said that he actually has done so, but poorly.

If the Holy Father -- our spiritual leader -- sets such a bad example within that territory traditionally called "Christendom" and among those people who would otherwise, but for this great apostacy that has plagued Christendom, be called "Christians", then why should others much further away do any better? What sort of example is being set to inspire them to uphold the Christian religion and the culture and civilisation that it inspires?

That is not disloyalty or disrespect to the Holy Father: that is loyalty and respect to Our Lord Jesus Christ.

If Africa (or any place outside of Europe) is to return to the Faith, generally, then Europe -- and most especially the Pope -- must embrace traditional Catholicism again.
