The Greatest Hits Of The 1970's
Played over and over and over and over

Warning: Harsh language alert. I'm in a foul mood.

The town I live in has the lousiest Classic Rock stations on the face of the earth. I swear... they must have playlists that consists of about 150 songs, and they play those same 150 songs over and over and over. But in all fairness, that's how most Classic Rock stations are.

If there are any program directors out there reading this... do the world a favor and destroy the following songs;

Bad To The Bone by George Thorogood and the Delaware Destroyers - If it's humanly possibly for a song to wear a mullet, it's this one.
Peg by Steely Dan - A truly suck-ass song that got bucoup airplay just because The Dan did it.
Hey Jude by The Beatles - Who the hell can stand 8 1/2 minutes straight of nothing but of "nahhh nahhh nahhh na na na na hey Jude"?
Fool In The Rain by Led Zeppelin - What the hell was THAT!? Disco??
Born To Be Wild by Steppenwolf - Aren't these guys dead yet?
Double Vision by Foreigner - If there was ever a poster child for insipid lyrics, it's this turd.
Don't Fear The Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult - Just one word... Cowbell. Need I say more?
Bad Company by Bad Company - This sucked so bad they had to name it twice.
Benny and the Jets by Elton John - Sh-sh-sh shitty shitty song.
Anything and everything by Fleetwood Mac - Stevie Nicks' 3 pack a day voice got real old right around '77. The problem is only compounded by seeing her now-a-days 75 pounds heavier and she's still doing that swirly Rhiannon The Witch thingee with her dress. Ewwww....

Can anyone think of any others?

On the other hand, I don't think they play enough KISS! :o)

They are timeless.
I recently did a post that they are now starting to open KISS coffeehouses!

You nailed Thorogood, I'd never thought of a song wearing a mullet, but it fits. anything by the band Journey should be banned from classic rock stations. Is it just me, or did AC/DC only write three songs, and then mix and match drum riffs, guitar riffs and vocal grunts to make the rest?

Hold on! The Stevie Nicks we all watched when she went solo in the mid-80's was truly outstanding! Coke or no coke, she was worth at least one evening? Now: Fatter then a pig!

As for the rest of the 70's songs--have to agree. The worst decade ever, topped off by the loss of South Vietnam (April 1975) and the whole Carter Administration (1977-1981).

Vir,
For those us that were there, "Hey Jude" (the Beatles biggest hit and longest single at 7 min. 11 sec.)came out in the '60s, but no doubt, was still getting air play in the '70s. (Hell, it's still being played today -- I heard it on an elevator last week!) As for the repetitive lyrics, I think the Beatles -- always innovators -- anticipated the karaoke era and wrote the words for the musically challenged and/or beer impacted.

Not everything Fleetwood Mac did was bad. Lindsey Buckingham wrote some really good songs...

"Hey Jude" is the only decent song from the Beatles. And one we frequently sing to our own little Jude (we make up our own lyrics, though). So, take it back, Caveman! However, I will agree with the rest of your list. It's truly hilarious, especially the last two.

I want to add these:
My number one hated song of all time is "Dust in the Wind"
Oh, and any song by Steely Dan sucks.
Chicago kind of suck too, along with the Doobie Brothers.

Truly the problem is the program director. The seventies produced the best rock AND the best radio stations. They weren't nearly as afraid to play any and all songs on any given album, which is where the real gems often were. Even the best bands from the 60's did their best stuff in the 70's (Pink Floyd, The Who, etc.) Now, what you have is the cookie-cutter mentality being applied to "classic rock" programming which doesn't allow for the playing of many good songs because they're too long or not commercial enough.

When our "classic rock" station started in Detroit around 1983 it was pretty cool - for a few months anyway. Then you realized that they were already getting into a rutt and so did they. So, while they refused to play Rush because they didn't deem them "classic" they started playing sh*t like John Cougar Menstralcramp and he'd only been on the scene two lousy years. To this day, you can count on hearing nothing but Beatles, Elton John, etc.

But I agree with prevat2 on one thing, Stevie was hot. Especially when she'd share a mic with her backup singers.

Hey now! I posted something and it didn't come up.
All I said is that every song of Steely Dan sucks and Chicago's too.
And the worst 70's song of all time is "Dust in the Wind". I will go so far as to say it just might be the worst song ever.
So there. :p

Sorry Rhonda,
I'm slow on the draw today.

But I will say that with the exception of "Peg" and "FM", Steely Dan was one of the greatest groups of the 70's. And until Terry Kath died, Chicago was one of the greatest bands ever (their first 6 albums, anyways).

Unfortunantly, everything they after the death of Kath was nothing more than sugary-sweet pop music.

Nevermind Rhonda, she doesn't have much tolerance for anything outside of the Bay City Roller genre.

As for Steely Dan - Peg sucks and I'm not much of a fan of the Fez, but FM is alright. It's on the commercial side but I like it still.

The Bay City Rollers? Ewww.
No, Rick, I like real bands. Like the Tijuana Brass Band.

Ug, Peg. Horrible memories of playing a jazz band arrangement of it in high school. Yuck. I'm with you, Chicago was great for the first six albums.

But Journey? C'mon. Most of the sins I committed in my adolescent years were with Journey in the background. Why don't they play Genesis (pre-invisible touch).
