All Around Bad Ass Of The Day
Miss Kathryn Nurre
It's with great pride that the Catholic Cavemen declare yet another All-American sweetheart, Kathryn Nurre, member of the wind ensemble at Henry M. Jackson High School, in Mill Creek, Washington, as our All Around Bad Ass of the Day.
In, yet again, another case of liberal school officials dumping on high school kids that actually have some *GASP!* moral fiber, young Kathryn has no intentions of going quietly into that good night.
Here's what's up;
For last month's (graduation) ceremonies, the wind ensemble chose an instrumental version of "Ave Maria," which they had performed at a school concert in December 2004.
But their choice was vetoed by Dr. Carol Whitehead, superintendent of the Everett School District.
According to school's principal, Terry Cheshire, Dr. Whitehead rejected the choice of "Ave Maria" because of "her belief that the piece is religious in nature", even though no lyrics would be sung or printed in graduation programs.
Now Kathryn Nurre, an 18-year-old who played alto saxophone in the ensemble before graduating, is standing up for herself. She's not just speaking out... this young lady is fighting back, and hard.
Kathryn Nurre has filed a lawsuit against both Dr. Whitehead and the Everett School District, claiming the decision violated her First Amendment right to freedom of speech.
I guess Whitehead's worried about too much Sax and Violins.
Is it any wonder young Kathryn's been declared our All Around Bad Ass Of The Day? (And I mean that in the nicest way possible!)

If only all young people were like her. It reminds me of when my job asked me to sing for the "holiday dinnner" f.k.a the Christmas dinner, and only to sing secular stuff. That would've left Frosty the Snowman and Mr. Hanky. I should've sued too.
