Any Connection?
Hmmm...
Two interesting stories. Any connection in the two? You decide.
First we have the power-pout from the Gang O' Heretics, SJ over at the National sorta-Catholic Reporter. Ready for a shocker? They got their panties in a bunch over the recent translations to the Mass of Paul VI (Novus Ordo Missae/the New Mass). The literal baby steps taken towards a more traditional Catholicism has the Jesuits & Friends flippin' out. Specifically;
“Powers in Rome handpicked a small group of men who in two weeks undid work that had taken dozens of years,” the NCR report continued.
Even the slightest hint of a more traditional Catholicism sends those folks into absolute apoplexy. Awww.... how sad.
But then we have an interesting story concerning the ongoing talks with the various Eastern Orthodox;
Bishop Fernando Rifan, who heads up the Apostolic Administration of St. John Mary Vianney in Campos, Brazil, said he believed a further liberalization (freer usage of) the liturgical rite of Pope St. Pius V [the Traditional Latin Mass] would aid ecumenical relations with the East.
"I really think that the Traditional Latin Mass widely and freely available would be, among many other good reasons, a great benefit in the field of the true ecumenism with the Orthodox," he said. "This would be primarily because the Traditional Liturgy is much more similar to the Oriental [Eastern] rites in the aspect of the sacred, veneration, and beauty."
Golly gee, could it be because the Eastern Orthodox actually have reverence and respect for the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist? Could it also be because the Eastern Orthodox realize that the Mass of Paul VI (the New Mass) is Protestant inspired?
Gee... I wonder.

Look, it's just this simple...
To be Catholic means that one must be in compliance with the roughly 2,000 years of Catholic tradition.
If we change our tune in the name of "Oecumenalism", we display -- by overt example -- that our Faith doesnt really mean as much as we state that it does or that it is worth defending.
The Novus Ordo is a travesty of epic proportions. It was created by a Protestant and Jewish inspired "pastoral council", the explicit purpose of which was to make Catholicism more acceptable to Protestants and Jews (and, by implication, the so-called "Orthodox").
If Catholics generally -- and the Pope specifically -- is really serious about bringing back our "separated brethren" into the fold of Christian unity, then we must stop apologising for our Faith, stop watering it down for non-Catholics, and start defending the Faith by refusing anything but Catholic tradition.
Otherwise, the non-Catholics will naturally suspect that we dont take ourselves seriously. And, if we dont take ourselves seriously, then why should they take us seriously?
