From The "Springtime Of The Church, But No One Noticed" File
...and just why is Catholicism on the decline in the West?
As we all know, The Holy Father is on his way to Spain. Oh, but this isn't the Spain of my ancestors. This isn't the Spain of Their Most Catholic Majesties, Ferdinan and Ysabella. This isn't even the Spain of Genaralissimo Franco. This is a Spain that has abandoned their Catholic faith.
More than a million faithful are expected to greet Pope Benedict XVI when he visits this Mediterranean port city over the weekend. But the church knows that behind the fervor lies a country whose population has largely turned its back on its teachings.
In less than a generation, Spain has passed from being a bastion of Roman Catholicism to a predominantly lay society, a process that in most other European countries took more than a century to complete.
Statistics show that while 80 percent of Spaniards still consider themselves Catholics only 42 percent believe in God. Polls show 50 percent never step inside a church unless for social occasions such as weddings, baptisms or funerals. Just 20 percent go to church for Mass.
"Today Catholicism means very little for the majority of Spaniards," said theologian Enrique Miret. "It's not that they are enemies of the church, simply that they have freed themselves from it. Go to any church and you see that most people there are over 60. There's almost no young people."
And where exactly were Spain's priests, bishops and cardinals the past 40 years? Fiddling while Rome burned. I certainly hope the pope does something more concrete that simply say Mass, and wave to the crowd.
But I shouldn't be so tough on the Catholic Hierarchy in Spain... look at the garbage that's taking place at St. Joan of Arc Roman Protestant Communal Worship Space and Circle Jerk Association in the St. Paul-Minneapolis archdiocese. All with the blessing of the local bishop.
So I'll ask the musical question yet again... "and just why is Catholicism on the decline in the West?"

Catholicism is on the decline in the West because of a number of reasons, but predominantly because of the sin of Pride which leads to the rejection of Divine Authority and, ultimately, to Rebellion. Consider:
- Satan rebelled against God, was cast out of Heaven, and lost his place in the divine hierarchy;
- Adam and Eve rebelled against God, were cast out of the Garden of Eden, and lost their right to Heaven;
- The Jews rebelled against God (i.e., Our Lord Jesus Christ) were driven from of Judaea, and were dispersed;
- The so-called "Orthodox" rebelled against the Pope and lost their imperial power and moral authority;
- The so-called "Protestants" rebelled against the Church and lost their royal power and moral authority.
From thence, Freemasonry and Communism -- thoroughly infused with a diabolical the spirit which has at its source an utter contempt for and hatred of God -- have unleashed the Revolution upon the modern world which has destroyed all remaining, formal Christian moral authority.
- The French and Austrian monarchy were decimated and dethroned during the French Revolution;
- The British monarchy were rendered irrelevant in the wake of the American Revolution;
- The American (Southern) gentry were destroyed during the Southern War for Independence;
- The Russian monarcy were annihilated during the Russian Revolution;
- The German monarchy were driven into exile after the Great War;
- The Italian monarchy were deposed after the Second World War.
The only remaining Catholic monarchs (well, at least in theory) are the Spanish monarchy and the Papacy. Since the Second Vatican Council, the Papacy does not rule as a monarchy. It remains to be seen if the Spanish monarchy have any backbone.
