Part I: Sanatizing Satanism

Father Thomas Euteneuer, president of Human Life International, has also taken fingers to keyboard about the upcoming movie adaptation of The DaVinci Code in his e-newsletter which is excerted below:
Would it surprise you to know that The DaVinci Code contains a glorified description of a satanic orgy?
What Dan Brown calls hieros gamos, an ancient pagan “sacred marriage” ceremony, is nothing other than a perverse mockery of holy matrimony depicted in living color in the pages of Brown’s book. If this act was “sacred” it was only so to the devil.
It is important to understand Brown’s main reference to this act. The ceremony he describes was featured graphically in the despicable 1999 Stanley Kubrick movie called Eyes Wide Shut.
Brown says that “there were many inaccuracies” in the Kubrick movie but that it was essentially a correct enactment of this “sacred marriage” ritual described in the book. How does Dan Brown know that the movie depiction of this secret ritual was “inaccurate”? I can only conclude that he must have detailed inside knowledge of the ritual himself because Satanists do not generally disclose their trade secrets. Brown’s use of media to glamorize the lord of evil and ritual satanic worship is not to be taken lightly by people of faith.
At our baptism we pledged to “reject Satan, and all his works and all his empty promises.” Who needs to be convinced that the devil uses the entertainment industry to communicate all of his empty promises? The book by Dan Brown sanitizes one very frightening but real work of Satan, and the movie will undoubtedly follow suit. Should any Christian see this movie? It should be rejected with the devil himself.

Former Altar Boy, interestingly enough, the group to be up in arms about Dan Brown's sacred marriage are the Pagans (or Wiccans). They can have, as part of their full moon rites, a moment when the High Priestess and High Priest - *ahem* - celebrate the union of the God and Goddess by engaging in a sexual act. But, it is my understanding that a woman must do this - not a "maiden" (premenstrual) or a "crone" (menopausal). In Dan Brown's book, it's Sophie's grandmother who is "doing the deed" with her grandfather . . . ummm, sounds menopausal to me.
But hey, I find unbelievable that a modern, sophisticated young Parisian would be so disgusted at her grandfather getting down that she flees in horror from his house and vows never to speak to him again . . . let us recall that the funeral of Charles de Gaulle was attended - without acrimony - by BOTH widow and mistress. Non, mon ami, more likely she would have gone to the kitchen, prepared herself un cafe presse and waited for her grandfather to come up from his secret chambers, to remark casually, "Alors, grandpere, c'etait un fait incroyable (So, Gramps, I can't believe you can still get it up)."

Excellent series. This should be required reading for all Catholics.
Unfortunantly, we have Catholics (and clerics!) who buy into Brown's sack of lies.
I am surprised this movie isn't being released on Good Friday for a further slap in the face.
Dan Brown has either pulled off the biggest literary hustle of the century or he really is a very strange little man. Oh, and you're absolutely right about Eyes Wide Shut. It was a despicable movie and the orgy scene was stomach turning. All the women looked like half fed mules. I got the feeling that Kubrick didn't like women much.
