...and what he isn't PART II
Just a wee bit of a follow-up to what I posted a couple of days ago. Seems I've got some reaction going concerning the selling of many major American ports to a state owned UAE company.
A Parable from the Book of the Caveman;
There once was a so-called priest (Father UAE, we'll call him) who ran a seminary. Father UAE openly endorsed not only homosexuality, but peadophilia as well. Shockingly enough, Father UAE was also in favor of rape by either instance. Father UAE went one step further and openly stated that homosexuality, peadophilia and rape were natural and normal.
Father UAE did what he could to ensure that homosexual "priests", peadophile "priests" and rapist "priests" were well funded. Father UAE also did everything in his power to propagate and advocate for homosexual, peadophile and rapist "priests". Even some of the seminarians that Father UAE was responsible for became open in their adherence to homosexual and peadohile rape.
Father UAE was very happy.
Then one day, something very bad happened. Some of those homosexual and paedophile "priests" that Father UAE was buddy-buddy with, were caught raping young men and boys. Lots of people were very unhappy.
The local bishop told Father UAE to cease doing everything in his power to advocate for the proliferation of homosexual and peadophile rapists. Quicker than you could say Smoke of satan, Father UAE agreed. Many unanswered questions... nary an admission of guilt, but nonetheless, Father UAE was now a "good guy".
A short time later (after the dust had settled) Father UAE was assigned to be responsible for at least 6 major Catholic youth organizations... in YOUR parish.

How about another parable, about a man who advocated the murder of Christians, to protect his own religion. One day, as he was travelling to another city to encourage the murder of Christians there, he was stopped by a blinding light...Oh, you've heard this one before?
Repentance and redemption is always possible with God. Don't forget..
I doubt that the security of the ports will be any less, it's just a different group of foreigners skimming the profits. The stevedores will be the same guys from 6 months ago, the security guards, customs agents, shop stewards and union reps will all be the same as well.
If the company were Iranian, Jordanian, or Syrian, then I'd be worried.

Jimbob, no one's talking about redemption or repentance here... what the parable is about is someone with a PROVEN track record being in a position to corrupt, destroy or do harm.

Also, neither the Jordanians nor the Syrians officially recognized the Taliban govt of Afghanistan. Too bad the UAE can't say the same.
But anyhow, back to my parable... how would you react to "Father UAE" being assigned to honcho 6 Catholic youth groups in your parish?
As far as father UAE is concerned, I'm sure that everyone, myself included, would be watching him like a hawk. That said, I'd also pray that his repentance was sincere, and that Jesus gives him the grace to live and proclaim fidelity to the Magisterium of the Church. Any deviation from that path, and there may be another unfortunate 'hunting accident'.
For both cases, it is well to remember my maxim (oft repeated to my children,):
"That's why God made .357 Mag pistols!!"

You're a much more trusting soul than I. Possibly I'm just old fashioned... but I don't think that a fox can be rehabilitated once it's had a taste of hen. Long story short, I trust the UAE about as far as I can throw them.
I know the Brits use to own said ports in question.... but I don't think that the Brits woulod ever give serious consideration to allowing some fellow Brits into America with hopes of bringing the Colonies back into The Empire, or just plain old do nasty stuff to America.
Hmmm... could the same be said of the UAE?
