In Defense Of All Decent Canadians
Unlike those idiots in Vancouver and Montreal
Canadian hockey fans at an international tournament in Vancouver, B.C., chanted anti-U.S. slogans as they cheered the Russian team to victory over the American squad.
But this isn't the first time that something like this has happened. In 2003, a group of PEEWEE League American players had the same thing happen in Montreal. 11 and 12 year old kids were pounced upon by hundreds and hundreds of rabid America haters.
But back to the recent disgrace in Vancouver. OK, I'm bright enough to know that not ALL Canadians feel this way. From what I've read in many news stories and blogs, the ones who are MOST angered over this are conservative Canadians, and not Americans.
Example; from Pete McMartin, CanWest News Service -
"Take away the beer bellies and the baseball caps, and you could have had yourself an anti-WTO demonstration. When the hockey louts start chanting the same slogans as the local Trotskyist cell, you know you have an ugly trend."
Wow... well said, Pete. Also, McMartin went on to state;
"For his part, U.S. head coach Walt Kyle was under the mistaken impression -- one still shared by many Americans, the poor, trusting boobs -- that because our two great countries are neighbours, and have co-existed peacefully for over 150 years, and have vast economic and cultural ties, that he could consider Canada a home-ice-away-from-home and Vancouverites would naturally cheer for the American team rather than for a team from a country (Russia) which, not 20 years ago, was chiefly known for its vicious soul-crushing despotism, and whose hockey teams were reviled by Canadian fans as products of a drab socialist machine that saw sport as nothing more than an arm of state propaganda."
You know, I'm not angry at Canada... I do feel rather betrayed. After all, aren't we the same nations that fought together in Northern France in WWI... literally shoulder to shoulder on the beaches of Normandy... yet again, side by side in Korea? Weren't there literally THOUSANDS of Canadians who volunteered to join the American military to fight in Viet-Nam?
How about when the Canadians rescued Americans during the Iran Hostage Crisis?
Sheesh... just look at all the Can-Am celebrations all through-out the U.S. every spring and summer. Hey, we don't look upon Canadians as inferiors, or even as "little" brothers. Canadians ARE our brothers. Period.
Well, I'm off on a tirade right now, so I guess I'll end by simply saying that I'm not mad at ALL Canadians... just those metzzofanooks in Vancouver and Montreal. And I can't really get all that mad at them. After all, what they did was nothing compared to what some Americans have done right here in the good old U.S. of A.

1 Comments:
I watched that game on television and, at first, I thought that the crowd was giving it to the Russians as any good Canadian hockey fan would. To my dismay and disgust, it became apparent that these idiots were booing the AMERICANS! I cannot express politely my thoughts at that moment. Our love for hockey in this country surpasses all else in sports and I'd like to believe that we appreciate nothing more than a true and able opponent. And on the face of this planet no one, NO ONE, plays the same style we do except the Americans. While I do truly enjoy watching Canadians bashing the Russians around the ice, the best games, for me, are those where we knock heads with the boys from south of the border. Only they seem to enjoy the game, the "physical" aspect of the game, as much as we do up here.
My apologies on behalf of my countrymen; the U.S. junior team play good hockey and the crap in Vancouver was inexcusable.
