Caveman, Tell Us How You REALLY FEEL...
Time for me to stop sugar coating things

After my recent napalm runs on the New Mass, I've been asked by some folks if I consider The Mass of Paul VI to be invalid.

In the words of S.O., "oh, fiddle-de-de". Of course the New Mass is valid! With that said, I'll stand by my assertion that I consider it to be wide open for error and/or abuse by it's very nature. But it's still a valid Mass.

I recall a few years back, there was a friend of mine who was being sent overseas, and the closest Latin Mass was about... ohhhh, 2,000 miles away. A priest of the SSPX told my friend that he not only certainly could, but should attend the only Mass available... the Novus Ordo. As Father "X" put it "you can still receive Graces from attending that Mass".

But hey, I attend an Indult, and that's a whole different post.

But anyhow, why do I rail against the New Mass so much for then? Like I said before... it's protestant inspired and has way to much of the opportunity for error to occur.

Look at it this way, would you take your family to a restaurant with a health code rating of 100% or 70%? Hey... both are valid and legit. Legally good to go, right? But who's food would you allow in YOUR family's belly?

And yes... there are Novus Ordo priests that really do try to say a good Mass. They're sincere... they're stalwart in their love of God and His Church. And God knows this to be true. Hey, I personally know (Novus Ordo) priests who have told me to my face that if they had it their way, they would celebrate the Tridentine only. Take my word for it... there are A LOT of priests out there that feel that way. Especially the younger ones.

The young Priests I have met are some of the best. This reminded me of a book I read about the battle of Lepanto, it said how each ship in the Holy League fleet had clergy on board and it said how these guys weren't the laid back, soft life living, brother is a prince so I'm the bishop, types, oh no, the book said something like these priests were "the Sons of Trent," hardcore and ready to do spiritual battle. They climbed up to the top of the masts to preach to the soldiers and sailors.

That's awesome FD!

I'm building my armor and prepping for spiritual warfare myself.

Regardless, NSD, this ones for you!

By the way, you are tagged!
I am tagging you for the five weird habits meme.

Rules: "The first player of this game starts with the topic "five weird habits of yourself," and people who get tagged need to write an entry about their five weird habits as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose the next five people to be tagged and link to their web journals. Don't forget to leave a comment in their blog or journal that says "You are tagged" (assuming they take comments) and tell them to read yours."

Semper Fi!

nsd,

The health analogy is pretty good, except what is at stake is your immortal soul, not your bodily health. Since you cannot know a particular N.O. mass is valid (an invalid one being a sacrilege and, therefore, attendance at a sacrilege being a mortal sin), your best "bet" is to attend the Tridentine Latin Mass *exclusively*.

But, it's your soul and God has given you Free Will. Do as you will.

Golf Duece,
The question wasn't what Mass I attend, the question is concerning validity.

I thought I made that exceedingly clear.

In the meantime, your right... It's my soul, and I most certainly shall do as I will, even under certain circumstances (like the example I gave on my post)...attend a valid, legitimate N.O. Mass if need be.

That is wrong. Your soul is never in jeopardy for going to Mass, whether you think it's valid or not.
You said so yourself, you have no way of knowing which Mass is valid. And, it's not up to you to decide these things.

The problem with some Trads is that they start becoming cynical about everything. I've also noticed that they tend to let the N.O. become an obsession.
Being too scrupulous is a bad thing.
As we know, that's a favorite trick of the devil's.

You should go out of obedience (at least) and let God handle the rest.
