Don't Go There, Girlfriend!
Oh SNAP!! I KNOW you didn't say that!!
There seems to be somewhat of a Pimp Slap-Fight between Cardinal Keeler of Baltimore and Cardinal Dulles of Fordham University. It all comes down to this simple question; "Can a Jew refute Christ and still attain Salvation?" click here for entire story
Dated Dec 20 of this year, here is an snippet from a communique from the USCCB on the recent "Fall Meeting of National Council 0f Synagogues and Bishops’ Committee for Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs and Circle Jerk"; (yeah, I added the "circle jerk" reference. I couldn't help myself...sorry)
In response to concerns from the Jewish side about a recent article by an eminent Catholic theologian that seemed to step back from the Church’s commitment to the ongoing nature of God’s covenant with the Jews, Cardinal Keeler responded that we are in a new age and Pope Benedict XVI has reaffirmed John Paul II’s teachings and the Church’s stand on this matter.

Presider Keeler has already been mentioned on my blog a couple of times Keeler Continues Grovel-Athon and Oh, He's Really A Good Boy... So not much that Keeler says impresses me.
But anyhow, I've read the statement in question by Cardinal Dulles. click here for entire story
Long story short on what Cardinal Dulles said; many, many, many, many quotes and references to the Second Vatican Council; a few to Sacred Scripture; a couple to the 2,000 years of Catholicism that predated Vatican II... bottom line? He didn't say much of anything. Just when it looked as if he was going to grow a set of spheres and speak definitively on the subject, he backed away quicker than a Frenchman from a bar of soap. As soon as I finished reading this, I couldn't help but blurt out what we use to say in The Corps whenever something absurd happened (and I'll clean it up) "what the fornicate, over!!??"
Then the glaringly obvious hit me... to the Jews at the recent Fall Meeting of National Council 0f Synagogues and Bishops’ Committee for Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs and Circle Jerk, it SEEMED that Cardinal Dulles was backing off from this current ecumenical insanity that has so badly stricken Cardinal Keeler. That's all it took. Dulles had to SEEM to adhere to Catholic Teaching, the Jews get pissed, Keeler instantaneously is in dire need of a new set of Depends and grovels for forgiveness. Silly me.
Well, seeing that neither of these eminent theologians have the 'nads to state the obvious, I will. I'll even make it fun. Can anyone tell me where this statement originated?
"Basing itself upon Sacred Scripture and Tradition, it teaches that the Church, now sojourning on earth as an exile, is necessary for salvation. Christ, present to us in His Body, which is the Church, is the one Mediator and the unique way of salvation. In explicit terms He Himself affirmed the necessity of faith and baptism(124) and thereby affirmed also the necessity of the Church, for through baptism as through a door men enter the Church. Whosoever, therefore, knowing that the Catholic Church was made necessary by Christ, would refuse to enter or to remain in it, could not be saved."
Give up?
No, it's not from St. Athanasius.
No, it's not from The Council Of Trent.
No, it's not from Pope St. Pius X
No, it's not from the First Vatican Council.
It's from the THE SECOND VATICAN COUNCIL.
Specifically from the Dogmatic Constitution On The Church (Lumen Gentium) Chapter II, section 14.
Just for clarification purposes I placed in bold the word "knowing" on that quote. That is to emphasize the Churches teaching on Invincible Ignorance
