3 Comments:
1. Hot chocolate or apple cider?
Scotch and Soda, followed by Scotch neat.
2. Turkey or Ham?
Ham, but not just any ham. Ham from my cousin Peanut's smokehouse. So salty normal people soak it before cooking. Not I!!!
3. Do you get a Fake or Real you cut it yourself Christmas tree?
Since my Navy days, I have had a 2' tall fake tree with lights permanently strung in it and a small crocheted lace angel topper my Granny made. This year I found a set of mini ornaments, all 1950's style plastic with mettalic paints.
4. Decorations on the outside of your house?
None yet. Want to get some outdoor nativity figures and build my own creche and stable.
5. Snowball fights or sledding?
I'm with non. DAMN YANKEES! But we used to slide down my granny's long steep front yard on big sheets of cardboard my dad or uncle would bring home from work at the Piggly Wiggly.
6. Do you enjoy going downtown shopping?
No. I practically live downtown, but I hate shopping.
7. Favorite Christmas song?
What Child is This? My dad was always in much demand to sing it wherever we went during the season. Of course, he was often dressed as Santa, so I admit my early christmas memories are a bit warped.
8. How do you feel about Christmas movies?
I like to catch just enough "White Christmas" to hear Bing sing.
9. When is it too early to start listening to Christmas music?
Wait until the last days of Advent
10. Stockings before or after presents?
Depends on whether I succeeded in getting to open presents before Midnight Mass.
11. Carolers, do you or do you not watch and listen to them?
Family caroling was big in my family. Most were excellent voices, some sounded like drowning chickens, but we all made a joyful noise.
12. Go to someone elses house or they come to you?
I am a stay at home kind of guy. I like cooking the feast. That way I know I get the best.
13. Do you read the Christmas Story?
Now that I am Catholic.
14. What do you do after presents and dinner?
That's kind of rude. But eventually I'll take a nap and eat more.
15. What is your favorite holiday smell?
Sap, cinnamon, soot and grease filling the house.
16. Ice skating or walking around the mall?
Is there a time when the mall is empty?
17. Do you open a present or presents on Christmas Eve, or wait until Christmas day?
Depends on how smooth I am. This year I got it bumped up to "Big gift on Xmas Eve, everything else opened a day at a time over the last week of advent." I admit, I'm a big kid.
18. Favorite Christmas memory?
The Miracle of the Giant Tin of Mixed Nuts.
19. Favorite Part about winter?
thick itchy wool sweaters and socks, celebrating until Ash Wednesday while everyone around me gets the post-Xmas blahs.
20. Ever been kissed under mistletoe?
Not a tradition where I am from. But I have shot a lot of mistletoe out of oaks with a 12 gauge.
Regarding stockings, just so the original Santa Claus didn't get forgotten completely, we put out a sock (no specially made mantlepiece stockings - except the little kids could opt to use one of Dad's socks) on the night of December 5th. When we woke up on the Feast of St. Nicholas, our sock was always full: a piece of fruit (usually an orange or tangerine - yeah, it's healthier than candy but, as I learned later as a parent, it also helps hold the sock open), sensible stuff (ugh) like a new toothbrush, and some small toys. It was a way to honor St. Nick and help us be a little more patient the big haul on Christmas. Of course, it was a tradition carried on to our kids.
Your answers for the 2005 meme were hilarious. You so tickled my funny bone.
This is 2006.
I'm tagging you with this year's edition:
