A Tale Of Three Bishops
A college professor who desecrate The Eucharist is small potatoes...

Compared to a certain Speaker of The House and two Archbishops who look the other way. And with that, let me state publicly and unequivocally: for shame Archbishops Niederauer and Weurl. May God have mercy on your souls.

Here's the entire article from LifeSiteNews.com; (Emphasis mine) House Speaker Pelosi Vows to Kill Defense of Marriage Act and Still Receive Communion
Pelosi also relieved no bishop has come after her for abortion advocacy
By Peter J. Smith

SAN FRANCISCO, August 5, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has vowed to join Barack Obama's new crusade to kill the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and promises to continue to fortify herself with Holy Communion from the Catholic Church for the campaign.

Pelosi told reporters at a press conference last Thursday that she plans to support Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) in his effort to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act, should the American people elevate him to the presidency.

The Culture and Media Institute reports that Pelosi responded with a firm "yes" that she would lead the next Congress to repeal DOMA, which currently prevents same-sex couples who "marry" in either California or Massachusetts from suing and forcing states to repudiate their bans on homosexual "marriage."

As the Catholic Speaker pledged to knock out one of the remaining props of real marriage in the United States, Pelosi also told C-SPAN that
she is thankful still to receive communion while crusading against all pro-life attempts to restrict or eliminate legal abortion.

In a C-SPAN interview released on Sunday, Pelosi explained that while other US politicians have had problems from their bishops denying them communion over abortion, she has continued to receive without any difficulty.

"I think some of it is regional," Pelosi stated.
"It depends on the bishop of a certain region and fortunately for me, communion has not been withheld."

She added, "I'm a regular communicant so that would be a severe blow to me if that were the case."

Pelosi is a Catholic whose legislative district is within the Archdiocese of San Francisco, led by Archbishop George Niederauer. However, Pelosi communicates often in the Washington Archdiocese led by Archbishop Donald Weurl.

Many faithful Catholics have been appalled that neither Church leader has given any public rebuke to Pelosi, who wears her Catholic identity on her sleeve and claims it is compatible with her pro-abortion positions. The Speaker has gone so far as to say in her new book, "Know Your Power" that her parents "didn't raise me to be Speaker, they raised me to be holy."
Now with that said, there has been some heartening news coming out of the Diocese of Raleigh. Specifically, General Norms for the Celebration of the Sacred Liturgy of the Mass in the Forma Ordinaria that was recently made public. A few things struck me immediately, Here are a few:

FOSTERING A RIGHT DISPOSITION FOR MASS AMONG THE FAITHFUL1. ...prayer or devotional prayer such as the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, Lectio Divina, and the Holy Rosary serves to build one’s relationship with the Lord and to transform the heart for the sacred liturgical prayer of the Mass.

4. As the faithful in the assembly prepare for the Sacred Liturgy, they are to be mindful that "The Church’s custom shows that it is necessary for each person to examine himself at depth, and that anyone who is conscious of grave sin should not celebrate or receive the Body of the Lord without prior sacramental confession, except for grave reason when the possibility of confession is lacking; in this case he will remember that he is bound by the obligation of making an act of perfect contrition, which includes the intention to confess as soon as possible."

5. When the faithful assemble for the Sacred Liturgy, it is a natural extension of human friendship to greet and to speak to one another. This dynamic within the life of the Church is invaluable in forming a community of the faithful who are well disposed to participate in prayer to the Lord with each other. It is preferable that this exchange among the faithful should take place outside the nave of the church building.

6. Sacred silence prior to the beginning of a Sacred Liturgy also reflects and encourages the right disposition for the celebration.

8. If preparations need to occur prior to the beginning of the Sacred Liturgy, such as the rehearsal of liturgical music, the parish priest is to set the appropriate interval of time before the beginning of the processional hymn so that the faithful may be afforded an adequate period of sacred silence.

9. The faithful are encouraged to dress appropriately for the Sacred Liturgy as befitting attendance at the most important hour of each day, most notably, with respect to Sunday Mass, the day which the Lord has made.9

LITURGICAL MINISTERS

18. All liturgical ministers are to be dressed in attire that is befitting their ministry. T-shirts, shorts, tennis shoes or athletic shoes and flip-flops are to be considered inappropriate attire.

1.2.3 THE USE OF LATIN AND LANGUAGES PARTICULAR TO THE ASSEMBLY

26. While the use of the vernacular is customary, it is laudable that the faithful be familiar with the acclamations and other prayers of the Mass in Latin, namely the Gloria, the Sanctus, the Credo, the Pater Noster, and the Agnus Dei.41

Pastors are instructed to be pastorally judicious in forming the faithful in the use of these ancient sacred texts of the Mass.

LITURGICAL MUSIC

44. Care is to be taken to ensure that the theology expressed within the text of all music clearly reflects the teaching of the Roman Catholic Church.

4.3.2 POSTURE AND GESTURES FOR RECEPTION OF THE HOLY EUCHARIST BY THE FAITHFUL IN THE ASSEMBLY

92. The normative posture for the reception of the Holy Communion in the Dioceses of the United States is standing.133 However, communicants are not to be denied Holy Communion because they kneel.

6. ADDITIONAL PARTICULAR NORMS IN THE DIOCESE OF RALEIGH

6.1 PLACE OF RESERVATION FOR THE HOLY EUCHARIST

106. As the Real Presence of Christ, truly present in the Holy Eucharist, the Blessed Sacrament is reserved in the tabernacle located in or near the sanctuary of the church building such that is truly noble, prominent, readily visible, beautifully decorated, suitable for prayer, and sufficiently elevated.158 The tabernacle is therefore not to be located behind where the assembly is seated in the nave. Care is also to be taken not to place the chair of the principal celebrant in front of the tabernacle or in any such fashion that will obscure the tabernacle from the assembly.

6.2 SACRED IMAGES

111. A cross adorned with the image of the crucified Lord is to be visible before, during and after the Sacred Liturgy.163 It is to be located on or near the altar as a sign of the connection to the saving Passion of the Lord. This image should be clearly visible and sufficient in size to be clearly distinguishable to all in the assembly as the Crucified Lord.

If a cross with an image of the crucified Lord is carried in the procession, this image is not to remain in the sanctuary during the Sacred Liturgy so as to avoid competition with the permanent image of the crucified Lord.164

112. As the Sacred Liturgy is a participation in the heavenly Liturgy, the Church recognizes the importance of images of saints. Images of the Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Joseph, the parish patron(ess), and others associated with local custom should be displayed, but not so as to distract attention from the focus of the Sacred Liturgy.165

Generally, there is only to be one image of a saint.166 Local custom and devotion may lend itself to additional images, especially with regard to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

6.4 PAROCHIAL LITURGICAL FORMATION

114. Liturgical formation is encouraged for the faithful in parishes.167 Among the formation topics, the following are recommended: The significance of the Eucharist in the life of a Catholic, the Eucharist and the Paschal Mystery, the Real Presence in the Eucharist and the Mass, Reservation of the Blessed Sacrament, the right disposition of the faithful before Mass, active participation during Mass, posture during Mass, purification of sacred vessels, and sacred images and devotions in Roman Catholic worship.
Now I for one, give a sincere tip of the helmet to Bishop Burbidge. It sure is nice to see some of the basics start to be enforced. I hate to be a cynic, but I wonder how many parishes are going to ignore him? Anyone care to place bets?

Something else to think about... what Bishop Burbidge has ordered will undoubtedly cause some rather large ruffling of feathers and skivvies to be tied in knots in this diocese. Especially in this diocese. Hell, all he's doing is reinforcing some of the more basic teachings of Catholicism.

Should I really be all that shocked that the likes of Niederauer and Weurl smile and look the other way while a 1st class mass murderer like Nancy Pelosi desecrates The Eucharist? The average Mass in their Archdiocese has all the sense of sacred that one might find in a three ring circus. At least Bishop Burbidge has this diocese moving in the right direction.

Now if he can just convince certain members of his flock that it really is wrong for the Faithful to support and place into power pro-abortion "Catholics".... and pro-abortionists, period.

Taking Former Altar Boy's Top 10 AND RUNNIN' WITH IT!!
Click here to see his Top 10 reasons to hate the Moru Proprio

One thing I'll give Bishop Trautman... at least he brought up the Motu Proprio on his diocesan web site. He's batting .400, but at least he said something.

That's more than I can say for Roger Cardinal Mahony of Los Angeles. As of this date and time (11:00 EST, July 13, 2007), absolutely nothing on the Archdiocese of LA web site even makes the slightest of mentions of the most earth-shaking news to hit to Catholicism since Vatican II.

But they do have a listing (the very first on their menu) of various languages that Mass is celebrated in. If one counts "African-American" and "Native-American" Cultural Focus as languages, then Mass is celebrated in 31 languages... from American Sign Language to Vietnamese.

Shockingly enough... Latin isn't listed. They love saying how they do offer it in accordance with Ecclesia Dei, but it's location is uber-secret. I guess they're on double secret probation.

The Archdiocesan newspaper, The Tidings (or as I call it... Low Tidings) ran a story on the MP. They're batting .400.

My hometown diocese, San Diego (I grew up there), has zilch on their web site. I guess they're still busy selling off church property to pay for rapist "priests". But the diocesan paper, The Southern Cross, did mention the MP in a story from the Catholic News Service (the official news organ of the USCCB).

It was a rather terse snippet that summed up the release of the MP as essentially "[the Pope's] time-honored Vatican tradition: clearing his desk". From there, five whole sentences about the freeing of the Traditional Latin Mass. Hey, if Bishop Brom wants to ignore the runner on 3d, that's his call. But like I said... he's probably really super busy selling off church property. One must set priorities, you know.

The Diocese of Tucson is conspicuously silent as well. But they do have a link prominently displayed to report rapists "priests". Wow... I'm underwhelmed.

I'm genuinely surprised by the reaction of Archbishop Weurl of Washington, DC. I'll admit that I don't trust Archbishop Weurl... especially since his refusal to stand-up to pro-abortion "Catholic" politicians. But anyhow, the Archdiocesan web site states "We will be putting together a committee to revise the sacramental norms and facilitate implementation of the motu proprio by its effective date in September". Hmmm.... certain catch-words jump out at me. "Committee", "revise", "facilitate". Sheesh... why all the drama? In the words of a certain shoe company -- "just do it".

And in all fairness, I did come across more than one Diocesan web site that hasn't been updated since July, 6th, the day before the Motu Proprio was announced. I'll give 'em the benefit of the doubt in the meantime.

But you know... the news isn't all bad.

But the winner of the 1st Annual Vir Speluncae Catholicus "Gee, I'm Glad He's My Bishop" Award is His Excellency Michael Burbidge of Raleigh, NC.

News
Pope Benedict’s Apostolic Letter on the Roman Rite

On Saturday, July 7, His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI promulgated motu proprio the Apostolic Letter On the Use of the Roman Liturgy Prior to the Reform of 1970. (Summorum Pontificum).

The Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge will meet with advisors to begin pastoral implementation of the Holy Father’s instructions. Directions given in the Apostolic Letter will be effective September 14, 2007, the feast of the Triumph of the Cross.

No double-talk, no catch phrases, no seminar-speak, just straight talk. "...begin pastoral implementation...". No committees being formed. No "ascertaining what constitutes a stable community". No searching for loopholes to end-run around The Holy Father.

There's only one thing I don't like about Bishop Burbidge being the Bishop of Raleigh... I got a nasty feeling that he'll be leaving us fairly soon (at least within 4 years). I can easily see him moving onto an Archdiocese one day soon.

Sorry, No Kool-Aid For Me
And I won't go swimming in the Weurl-Pool, either

In what the Catholic World News calls "a bold pastoral initiative", I not only find to be personally find offensive, but what's even worse... a slap in the face of Holy Mother The Church.

I'm sure most of you remember that Washington, DC's Archbishop Weurl recently did his best Sergeant Schultz imitation with his "I see nothing..... NOOOOOOTHING!" episode where he looked the other way when a certain hard core pro-abortion/embryonic stem-cell research/same-sex marriage San Francisco politician received Holy Communion within his Archdiocese.

And taking a page from the "Betrayal For Dummies" book by Judas Iscariot, this very same archbishop failed to display even a little bit of courage when Granny Pelosi referred to herself as a "Conservative Catholic". I guess it's asking too much for the Archbishop of Washington, DC to tell the Speaker of the House that "Conservative Catholics" don't have a 100% approval rating from Planned Parenthood. Silly me.

But anyhow... this archbishop now is trying re-invent himself as some sort of trail blazer visionary by stating that Catholics should receive the Sacrament of Confession more often. Gee.... no kidding?

This guy's got the backbone of a chocolate eclair. If he would back up his "bold pastoral initiatives" with even a smidgen of substance, then I'd take him serious.

Remember, fellow bloglodytes... just because a cheating husband gives his wife a peck of a kiss on the cheek every now and then, that doesn't mean he loves her.

Finally... FINALLY!
An American Catholic bishop who will stand up to Nancy Pelosi

In this day and age, it's rare indeed to find an American bishop with the 'nads to stand up to Nancy Pelosi and the rest of her gang of apostates, IE; Cardinal Mahony, Mayor Giuliani, Archbishop Weurl, Senator Kerry, Archbishop Niederauer, Senator Biden, Bishop Brown, etc, etc, vomitus maximus.

Here's some of the article;

PORTLAND, OR, March 1, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - "It is categorically impossible for the same person to state that he or she believes simultaneously both what the Catholic Church teaches and that abortion is just a choice," says Bishop Robert Vasa in a column released today by the Catholic Sentinel, the diocesan newspaper of the Archdiocese of Portland and the Diocese of Baker.

Although Vasa, the Bishop of Baker, did not mention her by name, he was referring in his column to Democrat Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi specifically, and to all politicians of a similar ilk in general.

"Some months ago a prominent Catholic public person," says Vasa, "described as faithful to the church, was asked if being pro-choice or pro-abortion was an issue which conflicted with the Catholic Faith." He goes on to quote verbatim what Nancy Pelosi stated in a highly publicized interview with Newsweek in October last year. "To me it isn't even a question. God has given us a free will. We're all responsible for our actions. If you don't want an abortion, you don't believe in it, [then] don't have one. But don't tell somebody else what they can do in terms of honoring their responsibilities."

Vasa then adds a comment by Pelosi's daughter Alexandra Pelosi, calling her only a "close relative" of the unnamed prominent Catholic. Alexandra was quoted in the San Francisco Chronicle on January 17 as saying that according to her Catholic school education neither abortion nor homosexuality were wrong, "They were just choices."

What was it again that Our Lady of Akita warned us about? Something about "bishop against bishop"?

...Followed Up With A Rather Large "SCREW YOU, POPE BENEDICT!!"
But in all honesty, isn't this exactly what we expected?

Only the most naive among us didn't know this was going to happen, including Archbishop Donald "Look The Other Way" Weurl. Well, the gauntlet has been thrown down, up close and personal. Christ Himself has been used and abused publicly by Pelosi, Kerry, et al.

It was ever so predictable that the gutless Archbishop of DC would put that stupid Stepford Priest smile on his face and do absolutely nothing. Now the big question is... what will The Holy Father's response be to this outright and blatant challenge to his authority and disrespect to The Eucharist?

Here's some of the article from Muckety.News.com (Emphasis mine) Abortion-rights supporters Kerry, Pelosi take communion at papal Mass
They described it an act of faith, rather than of defiance.

Several Catholic lawmakers who support abortion rights, including Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi received communion today at the Mass celebrated by Pope Benedict XVI, in apparent disregard for the pope’s views on the issue.

Four years ago, when questions arose over whether then-presidential candidate Kerry should receive the sacrament, then-Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger wrote that it could be withheld in certain circumstances, such as “obstinate persistence in manifest grave sin.” One example of such sin, he said, “was consistently campaigning and voting for permissive abortion and euthanasia laws.”

Ratzinger’s letter did not mention Kerry by name, and in any case, he recommended a pastoral, rather than prosecutorial approach — talking to the individual before turning them away from the Communion rail.

But the pope’s visit has already reignited the issue at a time when Democrats are attempting to woo moderate Catholics. A staunch anti-abortion group, American Life League, took out full-page ads this week in the Washington Times and Politico, calling on the pontiff to protect the church from “the bloodstained hands” of Catholic politicians who support abortion rights - complete with photos of 20 lawmakers.

American Life League President Judie Brown said the ad’s objective was to prevent politicians from trying to “exploit” the pope’s visit. “There’s no other word for it than defiance of church law,” she said. Brown’s organization asked Catholics attending the Mass to report back if they saw any abortion-rights supporters receiving Communion.

Both Kerry and Pelosi expressed admiration for the pope in statements this week, attempting to steer clear of the abortion debate.

“In a nation and a world facing such extraordinary and daunting challenges, the pope’s visit promises hope, inspiration and great wisdom,” Kerry said.

Yesterday, when Pelosi greeted the Pope at the White House, she bent to kiss his ring. “In these challenging times, there are many opportunities for the world community to work for justice and come together on issues such as human rights and climate change,” she said in a statement.

The Vatican had invited all Catholic lawmakers to the Mass at Washington’s Nationals Park, and many went to the service, although their offices deflected questions. Rep. Jose Serrano was one of the few to confirm he had received communion.

Sister Mary Ann Walsh, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Catholic Conference of Bishops, told Politico that the church had no plans to police communion.

“You presume that everyone there knows the rules of the church and follows them,” she said. “No one is policing that. People go to church and people go to Communion if they feel in their heart they are prepared to receive Communion.”

Pelosi had been among 48 Catholic lawmakers — some in favor and some opposed to abortion rights — who signed a letter in 2004 complaining about statements by “some members of the Catholic hierarchy” that focused on the issue of abortion to the exclusion of others.

“If Catholic legislators are scorned and held out for ridicule by Church leaders on the basis of a single issue, the Church will lose strong advocates on a wide range of issues that relate to the core of important Catholic social teaching,” they wrote. “Moreover, criticism of us on a matter that is essentially one of personal morality will deter other Catholics from entering politics, and in the long run the Church will suffer.”
I'm surprised they didn't give him the finger as they walked away from the Communion line. But in their own little way... they did.

This Is The Dawning Of The Age Of The Laity!
The age of the la-i-tyyyyyyyyyy!!

Imagine the horror. I can just hear The 5th Dimension belt that tune out right now at Mahoney's Edumacation Conference. Or even at that ugly-assed abomination that passes itself off as a cathedral. What's that thing called again... The Raj Majal?

Anyhow, pardon the Dr. Dorian-esque daydreaming. Back to reality.

For about the past decade or so, I've been hearing the phrase "The Age of the Laity" bandied about. Somehow, this is suppose to be a good thing. Priests and bishops will listen to us. We will have a say-so in how the mass is structured and conducted. The actual running of parishes will be left up to us.

Gee, didn't I just describe Protestantism? But don't forget gang, Phony-Baloney Cardinal Mahony has recently stated that the lack of priestly vocations is a "gift from God". Never mind the fact that he manufactured the so-called shortage.

Anyhoo... Judie Brown of the American Life League just threw a heapin' helpin' of hypocrisy right back in the face Mahony and the rest of his ilk.

Here's a taste;

American Life League: We Insist Bishops Must Deny Pro-Abortion Politicians Communion, Here's Why

Special to LifeSiteNews.com by American Life League President Judie Brown

Over the last four years American Life League has sought, through advertising, public commentary, personal communications, and other means to invite the Catholic bishops of our nation to enforce a particular Church law that deals with the protection of Christ who is truly present in the Sacrament of Holy Communion.

This Church law, Canon 915, is quite specific and states:

Those who have been excommunicated or interdicted after the imposition or the declaration of a penalty as well as others who obstinately persist in manifest grave sin are not to be admitted to communion.

It is our position that this canon should apply to any public figure, whether a television personality, a politician, a Hollywood star or an otherwise well-known individual who claims to be Catholic while at the same time supporting abortion either by vote, public statement or financial support. Thus we have simply asked each bishop, priest, deacon and Eucharistic minister to enforce this church law.

Hmmm.... "others who obstinately persist in manifest grave sin". Wouldn't that include those cardinals, bishops, priests who stubbornly continue to violate Canon Law by giving Holy Communion to the likes of Pelosi?

"...others who obstinately persist in manifest grave sin". That has Mahony, Weurl, Niederauer, and Gumbleton written all over it.

This Is The BEST They Have To Offer?
But because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold, not hot, I will begin to vomit thee out of my mouth - The Apocalypse of St. John, 3:16. Douay-Rheims Bible

I just want to make sure I have this correct. The heavy-hitters in both the Republican Party, and The Catholic Church are there fine fellows ~

Senator John McCain - Who happens to be in favor of embryonic stem cell research, as well as against the overturning of Roe V. Wade. "I would not seek to overturn Roe v. Wade tomorrow, because doing so would endanger the lives of women". This guy's a Republican leader?

Archbishop Donald Weurl, Washington, DC - That brave shepherd who chooses to look the other way while baby-butchers are given Holy Communion at "Catholic" churches. This guy's a Catholic Leader?

Mayor Rudy Giuliani - Well known for his anti-2d Amendment stance where law abiding Americans are suppose to be able to defend their families, homes and themselves. But not if "Big Government" Rudy gets his way. He's also pro-abort and pro-homo union. This guy's a Republican leader?

Roger Cardinal Mahony, Los Angeles - Infamous supporter of the pro-sodomy lifestyle. And just about everything else heretical. This guy's a Catholic leader?

Governor Mitt Romney - Better known as Mr. All Over The Map. Last I heard, he was in favor of abortion, homo-unions, stem cell research, etc. But in all fairness, it's only Saturday. I'm sure his stances will mutate a few dozen more times between now and the primaries. This guy's a Republican leader?

Bernard Cardinal Law - Yet another brave shepherd who not only opened the gates for the wolves to devour the lambs... he also did everything he could to protect the wolves even after they did unspeakable acts of degradation and violence against hundreds and hundreds of children. This guy's a Catholic leader?

Remember folks, just because someone calls themselves a Catholic or a Republican leader, that doesn't mean that they really are. Obedience to error isn't true obedience.

I'm reminded of the quote ~ "Satan's masterstroke is to have succeeded in sowing disobedience to all Tradition through obedience."

We Have Met The Enemy, And They Are Us
How Catholic Education Failed Alexandra Pelosi

An excellent article on the state of Catholic education since the great and sweeping changes of Vatican II. Here's a wee bit;

Even though she attended some of the best Catholic schools in California, Nancy Pelosi's daughter says teachers never told her abortion, homosexuality were sinful.

“In my family, we have a hundred years of Catholic school experience, and none of us ever heard that homosexuality was a sin. At my school, the nuns taught us about evolution.”

Let's cut through the bullshit, gang. The Second Vatican Council has been an unmitigated disaster. Case in point; in certain 3d World countries, seminaries and convents that number more than 30 are called stellar examples of how the Church is vibrant and growing. Pure bullshit. As long as they're just a smidgen above replacement levels, they pat themselves on the back and declare victory.

Boston, New York, Los Angeles and other cities that were once the bulwark of Catholicism in America have become veritable bone yards. And the Judasistas that run there places constantly insult out intelligence (and the obvious) by telling us all how great things are.

Here's the bottom line -- since V2, the Catholic Church has been suffering from some sort of ecclesiastical version of Munchausen's Syndrome by Proxy.

Mahony, Weurl, Egan and the rest of the Wolves In Sheep's Clothing, Inc. slowly poison the souls of Catholic children do death just so someone will pay attention to them.

Forget about a Vatican III, we need a Trent II.
