Have A Green Lent!
The dangers of watered-down Catholicism

No, I'm not kidding. The Archdiocese of Washington, DC has all inside dope on the "Lenten Carbon Fast".

I particularly like Feburary 29th. I never knew I had to show reverence for planet Earth.

As Catholic Christians

So, does this lead phrase from the paper of the Archdiocese mean that there are Catholics who are not Christians, Christians who are not Catholics, or what?

When Our Lady appeared at Fatima the three children asked her if they were going to go to heaven? When Our Lady replied that the girls were indeed going to heaven they were thrilled but wondered why Our Lady had neglected to mention Francisco, so they asked about him. When Our Lady was asked whether or not Francisco was going to heaven she hesitated for a long time before finally saying, "Yes, but he will have to pray many rosaries". Francisco died in childhood, I think he was 8 or 11 or something like that. If this holy boy, whom Our Lady saw fit to appear to was in danger of perdition how much more must the rest of us be in danger? I somehow doubt that unscrewing a light bulb in order to reduce our carbon footprint will be enough effort for the expiation of sins. I suggest the rejection of sin and a redoubled effort at praying the rosary at least once a day as a more fitting effort for the Lenten season. I would hope our venerable bishops in Washington would know that!

I don't believe in Global Warming and I don't consider myself green, but I do just about all of those things "suggested". Mostly because I'm frugal and those things save money.

What a ridiculous waste of time and paper. Shouldn't we focus on prayer instead of "saving Mother Gaia?"

Michael Voris is right and his critics are wrong. In the Ukrainian Divine Liturgy, the general confession before Communion says in part, "I will not tell the mystery to Thine enemies, nor will I give Thee a kiss as did Judas...." Besides that, I respect "Mother Nature" because she can kill me with heat or cold, but reverence? -- No! Hat tip again, Caveman! Thank you!

Who the heck is "Mother Gaia" some form of a lesbian feminazi I would guess...A made-up goddess leading the way further into perdition. Yep, the ole boy has all kinds of disguises and the USCCB follow like little lost sheep rather than acting like Shepherds! SIGN THE PETITION!

"Reverence" for planet earth looks like "worship" of planet earth to me. IOW, somewhere between druidism and animism.

I remember the first Whole Earth Day on a college campus on April 22, 1970, also the 100th birthday of Vladimir Lenin. The UN celebrates it on the Spring Equinox. This is close to the time of Easter Sunday. Maybe the bishops want to combine the two events. It was begun by a senator whose first name was ... it figures ... Gaylord.

Hey, this just in: St Francis of Assisi was born on April 22. I guess some of those birds he later preached a sermon to left before it was over, and evolved into the birdbrains associated with Earth Day in this era.

Lot of excitement by the students who were in the tie dying brigade. Then there was old "Burnout" Yosemite Sam (an authentic look alike) selling his hand crafted leather goods. Now don't fall over laughing, but some friends and their little kids brought some of their goats for their booth. This was an ag campus in the midst of vast farm fields in case some readers were wondering.

The web has some detailed history of Earth Day.
