Nothing Too Outlandish Under The Novus Ordo Sun
Helmet tip to PreVat2

Does anyone for a moment actually think that these Crypto-Protestants really believe in The Real Presence of Our Lord in the Eucharist?

At best, they may adhere to the Anglican/Lutheran heretical belief of consubstantiation, but this simply smacks of a generic Protestant "communion service".

Hey, if someone wants to be a Protestant, go for it. That's your call. But if you're going to be Catholic, at least believe what the Catholic Church teaches.

As I've said before, if it quacks like a duck, waddles like a duck... well, you know the rest.

By the way, am I the only one who noticed that there's no crucifix, but an empty, barren cross?

I don't believe the service pictured is/pretends to be a Catholic mass. (Open communion call; distribution of wine/grape juice in the "shot glasses"; and, as you mentioned, lack of crucifix; unused "wafers" get stored in a tube for next time)Is it supposed to be?

Do you know any Catholic church that employs this? It would seem too crass for any Catholic church I've been in.

Looks like a glorified pez dispenser.

BTW Cavey, yes consubstantiation for the Lutherans. The Church of England and its communion, however, historically believed in "receptionism." Receptionism is similar to the Protestant Reformer, Ulrich Zwingli's, belief in the spiritual presence (only) of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist which IMHO takes its origin from the heresy of Berengarius of Tours (11th Century?) who taught a spiritual presence. In fairness to Berengarius he was reacting to what can only be called an unwarranted supersitious piety among the sheep in the pews who believed that if you scratched the Holy Eucharist it would bleed! To Barengarius' credit, he renounced his heresy and reconciled with the infallible Holy Mother the Church before his death.

Blame Apb. Cramner for the Anglican doctrine of "receptionism." More Catholic minded Anglicans of the TAC and perhaps the Anglo-Papalist faction of Anglo-Catholics tend to believe in the RCC Real Presence doctrine. Some even believe in transsubstantiation, although most would hold to it as a pious theological opinion than a doctrine.

Anglicans are a confusing bunch to this RC traditionalist. Some seem very firmly Protestant; many or most seem pseudo-Catholic but really Protestant, and a few are very much Catholic except for the union with the Pope. This latter group should be swimming the Tiber soon, I hope.

A tip of the biretta (or helmet) goes to the Orthodox who have never had to suffer from a heresy in the belief in the Real Presence of the Holy Eucharist. A wonderful example to us all! May the Holy Spirit cure us (Orthodox and Catholic) of our unnatural division.

Is gloria.tv blaming this on the Novus Ordo? D'oh!

Obviously over in Eastern Europe, they're not familiar with what American Protestants do in their communion services. They often use trays of tiny "communion cups" for grape juice. They generally don't have crucifixes in their houses of worship. So this company did not design this plastic contraption with Catholics in mind.

Cheer up: this is one piece of stupidity that you can't blame on the Novus Ordo.

I don't think that's a Catholic church at all.

Folks,
Gloria.tv is reputable for having only Catholic news items. Even if this video wasn't in a Catholic church, nothing the Novus Ordo suprises me any more.

From Clown Masses, to Hula Masses, to the Animal Blood Sacrifice Mass (http://catholic-caveman.blogspot.com/2005/11/animal-sacrifice-mass-another-bitter.html).

Hysterics over Swine Flu have reached anti-canonical proportions, example: Bishop Henry in Canada forbidding the Traditional Latin Mass due to the SF (http://www.cathinfo.com/index.php?a=topic&t=9548).

What we got was no holy water in the fonts, no shaking hands, and no communion under both kinds.

that's methodist, ive seen that pastor on youtube before when a catholic blogger was comparing the "novus ordo" to medthodist services and how close they were (it turned out the methodists copied the roman missal into their prayer books as an option, not viceversa)

Had something about this on my blog a couple weeks ago. I was surprized to see that they weren't pushing the communion wafers already impregnated with wine the company also makes.

The Church was clearly Methodist so it didn't surprize me to see how they did this. But, I am waiting to find out some wacko fringe Catholic group is already using this as well.

Don't know why the person posted it did since my German is lousy & I couldn't read any of the comments.

Unless I am mistaken, I do not believe the Orthodox have ever given into such wimpy ideas even during the worst outbreaks. I remember reading on one Orthodox website that since the bread and wine are changed into the Body and Blood of Christ, they cannot obviously spread disease. Besides, I've always thought that the Odox had a good way of distributing communion with the spoon and the hot water.
