n.
1. Of, relating to, caused by, or affecting life or living Religious Orders of The Catholic Church: biological processes such as them thankfully dying off.
2. Having to do with them becoming more and more irrelevant, and everyone finally realizing it.
3. Related by heretical though, words and deeds: the Maryknollers, Ursulines, School Sisters of Notre Dame, et al.; will all die off because every one's sick of old lesbian pagans masquerading as Catholic Nuns.

Study of Catholic sisters focuses on religious role of women
Tucson, Arizona - A Vatican study of Roman Catholic sisters in the United States is discouraging and intrusive to some local women while others say it is a chance to emphasize good works and call more women to religious life. (Propaganda Alert! I thought the all-knowing, all-encompassing 'Spirit of Vatican II' would ensure our convents are packed to the rafters. Guess not.)
The $1.1 million study — which some view as more of an investigation — includes hundreds of questions on the spiritual and personal lives of this country's 59,000 Catholic sisters. U.S. bishops are being asked to fund the three-year undertaking. Topics range from finances to attracting new members to nuns who dissent publicly from church teachings in such areas as civil disobedience and sexuality.
"We are closing schools and churches and they are asking the diocese to spend money on this type of thing?" (This type of thing?) said Sister Lil Mattingly, a Maryknoll Missioner who said she is speaking for herself and not as a Maryknoll. Mattingly said she has a hard time reconciling the wealth in Rome with funding problems here. (You mean the 'wealth of Rome' that is the world's #1 charitable organization? The same 'wealth of Rome' that feelds millions? And if 'Rome' bothers you that much -- leave.)
"We try very hard to review our own lives and how Jesus is calling us to live, but I'd like to call on Rome to work on that," she said. (Pouts the good Sister for getting caught being a crypto-communist.)
Sister Elizabeth Ohmann, a Franciscan nun who works for Humane Borders, believes there's a different reason the focus is on apostolic nuns. "I think — and this is my opinion — that they are saying they believe it's the active communities that are really encouraging, say, women priests and are also upholding the rights of homosexuals and even homosexual marriage," she said. (I would say this falls into the categoty of 'this type of thing'.) Ohmann said some of her personal beliefs, and those of some of her fellow sisters, are not in keeping with what the church proclaims. "Are we going contrary to Rome's teachings? I say, 'Yes, it is contrary to Rome's teachings.' But it is not contrary to my own conscience," she said. (ahhh... the conscience clause. The death rattle of ageing hippes everywhere.)
Laurie Olson, a local member of Call to Action, a national Catholic reform movement, said other Vatican studies have been conducted following a crisis or scandal, which is not the case this time. (Call. To. Action? You gotta be shittin' me. This is the best the Arizona Daily Star could do?)
"One can only conclude it's an attack on the sisters, that they are trying to rein them in in some fashion," she said. "It seems to be the pattern of the hierarchy, to attack and further diminish the role of women in the church." (No dumbshit. Just heretics like you.)
Sister Rina Cappellazzo, the Tucson Diocese's vicar for religious, said "One of the things that we're hoping is that women will look at this and say, 'This is what I want to join. I want to be a part of this,' " she said. (The Biological Solution will take care of that.)
Something else to consider -- every reputable organization on the face of the earth has some type of quality control/inspection on a regularly scheduled basis. I guess these gals don't believe in either quality or control.

Vatican $1.1 million study? This couldn't be the same thing as the Vatican visitation of the orders of nuns in the U.S., could it? A visitation is a type of audit such as the Vatican-sponsored visitations of the various dioceses throughout the Catholic world. It's not a study. So what gives?
I am continually surprised that open heresy and dissent by religious are not confronted by Church authorities all the way up the food chain to Rome.
Hi, Caveman, the article is very good and the picture is even better! Thanks! I salute you!
They're trained to deny there's a problem: there's a gravy train and there's a long-term mission of auto-destruct.
(with tongue planted very firmly in cheek) Gee Cavey, with habits like the 1 shown in your illustration who wouldn't want to be a nun??????
That having been said, only 2 things to add.
1. Is "Call to Action" saying that what these dissident orders (as well as CtoA) are doing isn't a scandal/crisis? (Rhetorical question of course. We know it is, they think it isn't.)
2. This visitation will end up hiliting the good as well as the bad. & many will say "'This is what I want to join. I want to be a part of this." The only think is, it won't be the type of orders Sister Rina is thinking off, it will be the good ones that I suspect Sr. Rina would like to get rid of.
I MUST remember to read your posts where I don't scare people by cackling out loud like a lunatic. I typically have a very firm grip on my composure, but OMG this was hilarious.
I LOVE THIS SITE!
dear all,
i believe in freedom. if a person thinks that the institution he/she serves no longer coincides with his/her conscience, s/he has the freedom to leave that institution and not be associated with it. american sailors say it best: shape up or ship out!
