Is "Black Friday" Racist?
In the summer of 2008, Dallas County commissioners discussing traffic ticket collections were jolted when Commissioner Kenneth Mayfield, who is white, used the term "black hole" to describe the recurring problem of lost paperwork.
Mayfield's statement was immediately challenged by Commissioner John Wiley Price, who is black. Price belted out a loud "Excuse me!" and proceeded to upbraid Mayfield by saying that the problem of lost paperwork was the unwelcome byproduct of a "white hole."
That caused Judge Thomas Jones, who is black, to demand an apology from Mayfield for his racially insensitive analogy. This reminds me of an episode I had with a co-worker a few months back. I made the comment to a third person (someone of Mexican blood) "deportment is paramount". My co-worker was simply aghast. "Kevin!" She said, "you shouldn't bring up her being deported!" As I tried in vain to explain to this college educated individual what "deportment" means, it was obvious I was getting nowhere fast.
So I tried using the example of the word "niggardly". She lost her mind at that point. I, again... in vain, attempted to explain what "niggardly" meant. Still to no avail. She stood firm in the (self-)belief that the origin of the word had to do with perpetuating the sterotype that all Blacks are lazy and stingy.
Never mind that I actually had to show her on the internet that the offending(?) word is NOT of the Latin Niger (Black), but actually of the Old Norse Nigla - "to fuss about small matters".
Nope... none of that mattered. Niggardly sounds like Nigger, and that's all that matters to the hyper-sensitive who view everything in life through the lens of being a victim.
As I pointed out to my co-worker, would she be upset with me if I said that she was habitually early to work every day? Without batting an eyelash, she responded with "of course not!"
But then I informed her that "habitually" sounds like "bitch"... so maybe she really should be offended.
She didn't know what to say from there. And I don't think she sniggered about my analogy, either. But at least she didn't try to use White-Out on me.

The stupidity that ignorance gives birth to is amazing. One time at the office I suggested (with tongue firmly in cheek) that all place names in Minnesota that have the letters "man", such as Mankato, be changed because they are sexist. The suggestion was not well received. I have heard it seriously suggested that the word "manufacture" is sexist - never mind that "man" here comes from Latin "manus," "hand."
"...life through the lens of being a victim" totally sums it all up, the entire Liberal mindset!
The sad part is that I know you're not making it up.
If black hole is racist, black Friday is definitely racist; are these people unaware that black hole is a scientific term, related to astronomy? And that black Friday is an accounting term, meaning that the retailer is likely finally in the black? But that's racist; I should clarify that what I mean is profitable.
Bob, I went to UND, where they sold Sioux-venirs and assume that other WCHA teams sold Gopher-venirs or badger-venirs...and yes, there is an injunction preventing them from changing the nickname until a lawsuit plays out.
VSC, the Fighting Sioux are in trouble because the NCAA has decided it's an inappropriate name to use unless 2 tribes okay it. One says yes, the other says no, but without polling its members, and 8 members who are okay with the name sued.
Of course, the Fighting Irish is okay, as are the Holy Cross Crusaders...I think they should change all team nicknames that reference a group of people rather than picking and choosing.

I don't think we should worry about team mascots...no school should have sports teams, since in all athletic competition, someone has to lose. That's not good for self-esteem.
Or maybe they could change their mascots to PC approved names, like the 'abortionists' or the 'solar panels' or the 'pink pansies.'
Anyone who's worked in Accounting knows that "Black" is to be preferred over "Red". ("In the Red" isn't a good thing) "Black Friday" for retailers is usually the time of year that a company actually makes a profit. "Career Politicians" haven't the slightest idea of how to run a business but they ARE "generous" with their stupidity :-)

The 1966 edition of the Jerusalem Bible uses the word niggard. Does that make the Bible racist as well as sexist?
If I used the word & got told off by Price et al, I probably would have said "Basta!" Then when they said I was calling them a bastard which is what I am sure 1 of them would have I would have responded by calling them bigots for attacking my ethnicity. For those who don't know "basta" means "enough" as in I am fed up so stop in Italiano as well as Spanish.
This all an example of how political correctness (not to mention ingorance of the Engliah language) is ruining this country.
I had a guy call me out for decribing in a document someone being from the Orient as Oriental. JHe told me the term was offensive (to whom?) and the more proper word was "Asian." I told him I wanted thr reader not to imagine it could be anyone from Japan to Lebanon or Sri Lanka to Mongolia but actually a person from the figgin' Orient.

I wonder what the world's longest sentence is where every word is itself politically incorrect.
I have a problem when they call Notre Dame a Catholic college and do not see an apology coming yet. I have a problem when they call the Notre Dame sports team the fighting irish when many of them are clearly african american. And why is it the fighting irish? Doesn't sound to Christ like for a name. Of course the way they have been playing they must have found that term to negative for they certainly seem to have lost their fight. What if an islamist school was called the bombers?
Back in the day there was a woman's skating team called the "Bombers", and great boxing champ Joe Lewis was called the "Brown Bomber".
I discovered another insulting word; Obituary. I think it means dead bitch.
