Quote of the Week
The difference between a "leader" and a "presider"
When asked why the priest faces the altar during the Extraordinarory Form (i.e., the traditional Latin Mass), Father Gerard Saguto, FSSP, pastor of the new Latin Mass-only, Latin Mass all the time, parish is Seattle, replied:
"The same reason a bus driver faces the road and not the passengers: The priest is leading the congregation to the Mount of Calvary."
Until the bishop established this new "personal" parish, the TLM had been held for year at a hotel in downtown Seattle, which I posted about back in October 2007.

I prefer the word, celebrator. The priest celebrates the mass. The people assist at mass. The desire of the Constitution of the Sacred Liturgy of the Second Vatican Council on active participation, notwithstanding, Jesus Christ did/does the sacrificing in the person of his priest. We get to stand at the foot of the Cross and "assist" as did the three Marys and the Apostle John on that one, very special day in all Creation.
It is a pity the liberals have trouble with this very basic concept of sacrificing Christianity.
Adeo,
I don't know about "celebrator" but celebrant is a good word of long use and common understanding.
Great post and great news! I visit Seattle periodically so I'd be very interested in the location of this new Latin Mass parish.
No, you are correct. I meant celebrant. Senior moment struck me again or is it because I am so stoned out as a audio-crack whore (i.e., the "L" Cowboys). *grin*
Adeo,
Pusher, junkie thyself.

FAB,
"Why does a bus driver face forward?"
I'm going to use that... A LOT!!!
Love this post and that line on the bus driver.
I can't use your link above. Help!
Lola, try this - wilmingtontlm.blogspot.com
Hey, this is great. Cavey, I am going to shamelessly steal this one (with credit to you, of course).
AM,
As much as I'd like to take credit, this post is all FAB's.
As soon as I hit the "publish" button, I realized it was FAB. But he's a Caveman too, so it redounds to the credit of all the Cavemen!
And now my post is up too!
For those of you interested, here is the web site to the Seattle FSSP parish, North American Martyrs, with Fr. Saguto. http://www.northamericanmartyrs.org/
