Moslem 'Honor Killing'... In America?What do you think?
I've found a link from The Daily Mirror (Sri Lanka) concerning American citizen Fathima Rifqa Bery, threatened with killing by her own father. Coverage by the American media has been, not unexpectedly, pathetically thin.
Here's some of the article; (Emphasis mine)
A Sri Lankan teenager has told a US court she fears for her life after converting from her family’s faith to Christianity. The girl is now in the custody of the US Department of Children And Families, a US TV network reported.
The girl, 17-year-old Rifqa Bary, recently converted from her family's faith to Christianity and she is worried about her family's reaction to her change in faith, News 13.com reported.
"She says her life is in danger and she could be killed in an honor killing," Rosa Gonzalez, the teen's lawyer, said after a hearing at an Orlando courtroom, Monday. "Unfortunately it happens every day in the U.S."
Here are a few quotes from the video that I think you'll find noteworthy --
"Imagine the honor in killing me. There is great honor in that, because if they love allah more than me, they have to do it. It's in the koran."
"This is not just some threat. This is reality. This is truth. This is reality."
"You guys don't understand."
"I want to worship Jesus freely. I don't want to die."

VSC, I am highly suspect of this young girl. She goes in and out of crying to quickly and she cannot look the person in the eye.
There is something more to this story. I do not doubt her fear and certainly do not doubt honor killings but this seems very akward.
Hopefully we will see more about it.
There may be something to what you say, but I attribute it more to her being scared to death (literally).
Please know that in some Asian, middle eastern and native american cultures it is considered rude and disrespectful to look someone in the eye and in those cultures that looking someone in the eye means that you are lying to them.

Also, let's take a vote. How many of you know someone who switched Christian denominations or left the Christian faith all together who was hunted down and killed for "honor"?

islam has a proven and well documented track record of killing young girls. I have no reason whatsoever to think this particular young lady was a hairsbreath away from being just another depressing news article.
This girl has every reason to be scared, confused and an emotional train wreck.
That makes me sad :-(

I'm from Sri Lanka and honour killings are nonexistant there. Also honour killings are not mentioned anywhere in the Quran except where they condemned it (it was an early Arab practise). In some backward middle eastern cultures where knowledge of proper Islam is lax the tradition continues. It is obvious to any Sri Lankan that this woman is spouting bullcrap that she has been brainwashed to say. Nobody ever resorts to honour killings in Sri Lanka, Muslim or otherwise.
Also I facepalmed myself when I read Kathreja's comment about not looking people in the eye. There is no such bullcrap in Sri Lanka.
