And Why Does No One Take Confession Seriously?
Look to Boston

When a murder the magnitude of Ted Kennedy receives a Catholic Funeral Mass at a Basilica, "presided" over by a Cardinal, no less, who could blame a NOD (Novus Ordo Drone) for repeating the hypnotized, drooling mantra of "I'm not that bad, it's not like I'm a murderer or anything."

A handful receive Penance, hundreds receive Holy Communion. Show me a Novus Ordo parish that isn't that way, and I'll show you the golfer who was hit twice by lightning and won the lottery.... three times.

By the way, the only "Mass" Ted Kennedy could be connected with, is when the word "Murderer" is next to it.

I am watching the funeral liturgy as I write this. I am saddened, disgusted, and scandalized what I am witnessing. It is somewhere between a Protestantized service and a Democratic political convention.

BTW, the Cardinal is in choir dress and is not a celebrant/presider (I hate this term that the N.O.M. uses) of the liturgy. I also wonder why Cardinal O'Malley is/was not a concelebrant? Is there a message he is giving out?

God and History will judge the late Senator. And God's Judgment is the one that really counts!

Maybe the message is "the Pope will have my hide if I celebrate this Mass but I want the wealthy Democrats to continue supporting the church financially at least so need to at least show up."

BTW, my parish is a Novus Ordo parish with confession 6 days a week. People are typically lined up an hour ahead of time. Sometimes the priest shows up early. Sometimes he stays late; he may have to leave for Mass but if so, depending on his schedule, may have people go to the Confessional in the Sacristy after Mass.

There are usually 4 priests on Saturday, one of which may be the auxiliary Bishop. There aren't always 4 and sometimes they come late or leave early.

The place I go for noon Mass also celebrates the ordinary form of Mass and has confession 3x daily. With lines.

These parishes are both destination parishes so no way of knowing how many people belong to either of them or how many go to Confession and receive Communion.

Nan,
I'm sure that you'd objectivly agree with me that your parish is the exception, and far from the norm.

Remember the old day when just about every parish was like that?

Confession is the sacrament that no one seems to want. While there you a few parishes where there are lots of confessions, most American Catholics (Roman Protestants) & their priests do everything to make it harder and harder to receive it.

Nan,
That's unfortunant. I remember no matter what what parish one went to, there were always long lines and multiple priests administering the Sacrament of Confession.

And here's something one almost never sees in Novus Ordo parishes... upwards of over half the congregation NOT receiving Holy Communion because they DIDN'T make it to Confession yet.

Who knew there were so many sinless people in the Novus Ordo?

But a lot of those people don't know better. If Confession isn't regularly offered and the priest doesn't focus on sin, they just assume the priest knows what he's doing and they're just fine.

Now if we could just get them to keep their hands folded in a prayerful position...

BTW, today's celebrant gave his regularly scheduled sin and confession homily. I think he gave it about this time last year, too.
