You Know That Can Be Taken Two Ways...
Don't you?
WARNING! Harsh language alert! This guy REALLY pisses me off.
Weakland packs his shit. Not the first time, and in all probability, not the last.
The same guy who protected homo-rapists, packs his shit. The same guy who tried to shut-up the rape victims, packs his shit. The same guy who paid his boyfriend $450,000 in hush money, packs his shit.
The same guy who is responsible for the following;Archbishop Weakland, unlike any other prelate in the United States, repeatedly made public comments, spanning several years, that were derogatory and insensitive to the plight of victims, including calling adolescent victims “seductive… street-wise…savvy” and victims that reported abuse “squealers.” Yeah... he had rent a U-Haul, transfer savings accounts, get his mail forwarded. All that happy stuff that entails moving. But before any of that could happen, he had to box all of his belongings, etc. That's what I mean by him packing his shit.
Yeah, you thought the same thing, too. Right?
Anyhow, here's some of the article from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel; (Emphasis mine)In wake of scandal, Weakland will return to East Coast, publish memoirs
Former Milwaukee Catholic Archbishop Rembert G. Weakland, who retired in 2002 amid accusations of a sexual scandal, has decided to leave Milwaukee for a Benedictine abbey in New Jersey.
Reached by telephone Thursday morning, Weakland declined to comment. He said he would not agree to be interviewed by the Journal Sentinel, which has reported extensively on his personal scandal and his alleged role in covering up sex abuse by other priests, now the subject of civil lawsuits.
Asked why, Weakland said, "I'm not giving any reasons, thank you," before hanging up.

I read the entire, long, article from the "who" link. I do not think that a fictional story could top this non-fiction one! Almost unbelievable. If there were a fourth secret of Fatima, this article's contents/history could very well be it!
Ade,
Creepy, ain't it?
And this is just one (arch)diocese in the AmChurch!
Why is this man not in jail?
Thank God we had Archbishop Dolan here afterwards. The damage from Weakland is still being cleaned up.
I predict 2 things about the contents of the book:
1. He will attack every orthodox teaching of the Catholic Church in the name of the "Spirit of Vatican II" (& we all know what I think of that so-called spirit).
2. (& the centerpiece of the book) He will portray himself as a poor servant of God who was simply doing what he was supposed to do as a good bishop to impliment that "Spirit". His enemies persecuted him & trumped up these charges to drive him out so they could undo all the wonderful things he did.
Anyhow, all his fans (including the Non-Catholic Reporter) will eat it up & applaud him for his bravery in speaking out the "truth" about what happenned. Reality (& actually truth) is something totally diiferent. Someday soon he will have to answer to the 1 judge that will finally & eternally call him to account for all the evil he did.
I read the late Msgr (later Apb.) Annibale Bugnini's memoirs entitled "The Reform of the Liturgy, 1948-1975." As most of you probably know, Bugnini was Sec'y to the Cardinal that ran the Consilium, the organization charged with "creating" what became the Novus Ordo Missae and the reformed sacramental rites, among other things. Basically, Bugnini was in charge.
Well Ole Apb. Rembert Weakland was Fr. Rembert Weakland, Abbot of the Benedictines (in the U.S.) and a member of the Consilium. Wreckovation of the Cathedral in Milwaukee? Small potatoes. How about wreckovation of the Divine Liturgy known to the Roman Rite as the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass? :-(
I'm going to read the book. I know it won't be Truth, but as someone who grew up under Weakland's "reign," I want to understand exactly what was going through his head during the time when the Catholic Church in Milwaukee did jack shit nothing for me - and in fact probably drove me away from the Church for years. I want to hear from the horse's mouth exactly the viewpoints that should be avoided like the plague, in all the weasel-word glory that will constitute what he's written. I'll be happy to report back or write a guest post on the book - my husband is ordering it for our local library today and I will be the first to have it when it arrives.
In my comments on Fr Jonathan Morris, I noted how uncomfortable I was at the level of vitriol leveled against him. Reason being, I do not see a persistent pattern of behavior with Morris, and his wrongheaded views on the Latin Mass could probably change with some fraternal correction. I once too believed as he did; it is simply what had been drilled into my head that Vatican II was an unmitigated success; but I learned after a good deal of prayer, resarch, and personal experience that this was patently false. Now, it's certainly a different case with the aptly named Weakland. He has demonstrated over many decades a persistent pattern of behavior that has brought scandal and outrage to the church. He's a dyed in the wool spirit of vat 2 guy who has been responsible for deformations of the liturgy, sacred architecture, and social teaching. He deserves to be lambasted for his failures and the near irrepreble harm he has done the church.
