Notre Shame Update
62 down... 370 to go
Before everyone starts patting themselves on the back for what a great job our 'leadership' has done in the face of the Notre Dame scandal, let me point out that of the 432 members of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, only 62 have actually had the 'nads to condemn this incredible insult to Christ and His mother.
62 out of 432. That's only 14%. The blocks on the calender tick by to O-Day, and we can't even get a sizable minority of our 'shepherds' to condemn this? Put aside something concrete... like removing Notre Shame from The Catholic Directory. Hell, just condemn this insult!
You 86% of the remaining USCCB don't have to really DO anything. Just say this one simple sentence - "I condemn the invitation of any pro-abortion speaker at Notre Dame or any other Catholic institution."
That's it. That's all you have to do. You really don't have to follow-up with anything solid. Just for the love of God --- SAY SOMETHING!
I've said it once, and I'll say it again;...our once virile and morally strong Church has been reduced to a sickly, confused old man who on a daily basis gets smacked around and spit on by his own children. I heard of a Novus Ordo priest who just last Sunday rightly lamented that only half of those who would be receiving their First Holy Communion, Confirmation, etc., would return to Mass the following Sunday.
Gee, I wonder why.

Those 62 account for 1/3 of the dioceses in the USA, according to American Papist. Perhaps the co-adjucators and auxiliaries don't feel the need to speak up if their boss already has.
Just a guess.
I wrote about the Danger of Silence myself today. It must be something in the Kool-Aid.
And yet, I attended a lovely First Communion where the kids received kneeling and on the tongue, and others were given the opportunity to do the same. The priest preached about the True Presence, and didn't mince words.
It is changing, if slowly.
BK,
Interesting point. But just for the sake of discussion, aren't the auxilliaries and those retired still members of the USCCB?
1/3 . . . hmmmh . . . a very biblical number as in faithful remnant.
Ade,
Good point!!
Wait! Who is the sickly old man?
Vir I am with you on that. I would love to see a united statement from the USCCB condemning this flagrant flouting of their own decree. I would point out that Cardinal George, the President of the USCCB was one of the first to speak out.
I try to take this in the best light possible. We are up to 66 today, that includes 3 cardinals (I won't hold my breath for Mahoney to join the ranks, but Egan would be nice). Never in my life time, short as it is, have I seen such a united front by the US bishops without there being some big long meeting about it. It's encouraging to me.
I fugured out what's up with both these psuedo-catlik skuuls and the "bishops" and "priests" of the church who support them, either by silence or action.
BTW--as an Old Redleg, I was trained that "Silence=Approval". That's how fires and airstrikes are approved!
So the silent bishops, in my book, are approving bishops.
The silent bishops probably haven't even mentioned the name "Jesus" in 40 years. Useless baggage, complete with millstones.
Can you think of another time when that many bishops independently stood up and were vocal on any other issue? I thnk this might be a record at least for the last 50 years.
